In the beginning... Year 3 Autumn 1 The Scots are coming! Literacy In Literacy this half term, we will be exploring the Anglo- Saxons and the Scots. We will look in detail at the Battle of Hastings to write a character description of William the Con- queror, a recount of the Battle of Hastings and a first person recount from the point of view of a soldier the night before the battle. Maths This half term we will be developing our number sense, understanding our number system, investigating and using number bonds, using addition and subtraction strategies, solving money problems, understanding number, iden- tifying 10 and 100 more or less, rounding numbers and solving place value problems with a range of strate- gies. We will also work on consolidat- ing 2, 5 and 10 times tables as well as beginning to learn the 3, 4 and 8 times tables. Reading This half term we will be exploring a variety of texts including fiction and non-fiction, comic book strips and information texts. We will study both Illustrated tales of King Arthur by Sarah Courtauld and How to be an Anglo-Saxon by Scoular Anderson in depth using our skills to analyse the purpose of the text and the features used to engage the audience. We will look at vocabulary searches, inferred meanings, retrieval of information, summarising points and visualising a description. Background Reading: Science Biology: animals including hu- mans Line of enquiry: What would happen if I only ate…? History Anglo-Saxons and Scots Line of enquiry: Why did the Anglo-Saxons invade Britain? R.E. Beliefs and questions Line of enquiry: How do Christian people’s beliefs about God, the world and others have an impact on their lives? P.E. Fitness Line of enquiry: How can speed, strength and agility improve fitness scores? Art Drawing 3D objects Music Composition Computing What is a computer? PSHE/RSE/No Outsiders/Habits: Healthy Lifestyles will be the focus of our PSHE learning this half term and we will also looking at how we can find solutions to problems and identifying discrimination through No Outsiders. For Black History Month we will complete a case study on Martin Luther King. We will consider using the internet safely and the rules and laws of Britain. The Oasis 9 Habits we will focus on this half term are the questions Who am I? and Who am I Becoming?

In the beginning... Year 3 Autumn 1

The Scots are coming! Literacy

In Literacy this half term, we will be exploring the Anglo-Saxons and the Scots.
