The following is an extract from St Mary’s Parish Mt Albert – Marist Fathers “The story of our parish began in 1924 when one and a half acres of land in Mt Albert known as “Brookdale” was purchased by the Rev. Dr Liston for two thousand pounds. A hall in Onehunga was also obtained at a cost of two hundred and fifty pounds. When this was transferred to the site the Catholic Church in Mt Albert was established. For several months, the fledgling Parish was served by the priests of St Benedicts, then the Marist Fathers came to the Parish. Father Gondringer was the first Parish Priest. Under his leadership the community immediately began to flourish. In 1926 the presbytery was opened and blessed by Bishop Clearly. In the same year, a primary school, built mostly by voluntary labour, was also opened. In the space of four short years, as a result of the wonderful community zeal of the Marists, the Mt Albert Parish possessed a church, presbytery, convent, school and two and a half acres of land.” We extend our best wishes and prayers to the Parish for their celebrations. Please keep in your prayers all our children who will receive the sacraments of Confirmation and Communion on the 13 th and 14 th September Arielle Asuncion, Norma Jane Atkinson, Conor Brennan, Maggie Brownfield, Connor Casford, Zachary Casford, Joseph Clapham, Neena Contreras, Mia Courtney, Angelica Dias, Caitlin Jenner, Abbey Martinez, Emma Mowat, Samantha McMurray, Christie Phyn, Isaac Paradesh, Emily Rednall, Katelyn Rewcastle, Saskia Russell, Laci Sampson, Emily Seal, Alexander Simons, Charlie Squire and Emily Willis.
