From Barry Merer, the manager of social media and web services at the Episcopal Church Center, comes this information: "One of my day-to-day responsibilities is the care and feeding of the find-a-church section of episcopalchurch.org. With the campus ministries listings, there are almost 7K items. With the current staffing realities there is no proactive effort to seek out where our listings are inaccurate and out-of-date. More than 1000 people at the local level have been granted specific page editing access and that does help. Over the years many folks at the diocesan level have stepped up and volunteered to take on the upkeep of their specific pages rather than waiting for me at this end to become aware of an error via email from a random passer by or frustrated rector or parish administrator."

Wear Orange! Bishops United recently became a partner in the Wear Orange movement. The goal of the movement is to inspire as many people as possible to wear orange on Thursday, June 2 as a symbol of their commitment to work for an end to gun violence. Here is how you can help:
• share the social media links below on your personal and diocesan Facebook pages and Twitter streams several times before May 30
• encourage people in your dioceses to have their pictures taken in orange garb on June 2 • encourage people in your dioceses to post those pictures on social media using TWO hashtags:
#WearOrange and #Episcopal. (We will then share these photos more broadly from the Episcopalians Against Gun Violence Facebook page and The Cross Lobby Twitter stream.

Four Candidates Nominated for Position of Eleventh Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Central New York Syracuse, NY, May 2, 2016: The Standing Committee of the Episcopal Diocese of Central New York has announced a slate of four candidates for the position of 11th Bishop of the Diocese, succeeding the Right Rev. The slate was announced after a nationwide search by the Search Committee. The diocese will elect
the next bishop at a special electing convention on August 6, 2016 at the Holiday Inn in Liverpool,
New York. The consecration of the bishop-elect is tentatively scheduled for December 3, 2016 at the
Holiday Inn in Liverpool, New York.
“We are delighted with this strong slate of candidates, any one of whom would be capable of leading
our diocese into the future,” said the Rev. Christine J. Day, president of the Standing Committee,
which oversees the election process.
"They have all undergone extensive interviews, background checks and reference checks,” the Search
Committee chair, the Rev. Carrie Schofield-Broadbent, said. “Our committee has been working since
last summer to develop a rich pool of candidates, get to know them and help them get to know our diocese. We think the people of the diocese will be pleased at the rich experience these candidates
offer and their deep desire to be part of our lives here in Central New York.”
The people of the diocese and interested parties will have an opportunity to meet and hear from the candidates on July 20-23, 2016 when the candidates will visit four locations in the diocese (Watertown, Auburn, Oneida and Owego) for a series of question-and- answer sessions called "walkabouts." Diocese of Haiti The Diocese of Haiti has a new website! The url is the same, but the content is updated and the look is fresh. Way to go!
Diocese of Long Island From May 15 through June 1, Rural Migrant Ministries will lead a 200-mile march from Long Island to Albany to garner support for legislation protecting the rights of farmworkers.
The legislation currently in the NY State Legislature, the Farmworkers Fair Labor Practices Act, would give New York State farmworkers rights to "days of rest", overtime pay, the right to collectively bargain, and more benefits already granted to other types of workers.

Diocese of New York NY Episcopalians open doors to burned out Serbian congregation
In a spirit of Christian friendship and unity with its roots deep in the 19th century, the Episcopal Church in New York has stepped forward to ensure that the congregation of the fire-gutted Serbian Orthodox Cathedral of St. Sava will have a place to worship each week until they have a new permanent home. “I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.”
Every Wednesday evening from 5:30 to 7:00 at Northern State Prison in Newark, the words of Matthew 25:36 are realized in the ministry of Episcopalian John Vine who for more than 15 years has lead a Bible study group for inmates at the facility. His ministry is a program of the Diocese of Newark’s Prison Ministry.
John got involved in prison ministry 18 years ago when he volunteered at a national program that provided Christmas presents to the children of parents who were incarcerated. “We delivered presents to a grandmother who was raising three kids on her own, the father having been incarcerated and the mother having died of a drug overdose,” recalls Vine. “When I asked her if there was anything else we could do she said, ‘Help my boy to know the Lord.’ That touched me in such a powerful way that I knew I had to do something.”
Vine’s weekly Bible study group consists on average of about eight male inmates, who are “processing out.” The men are housed in a section of the prison known as “Minimum One,” referring to the lowest level of security provided in Northern State. “These guys don’t want any more trouble in their lives,” Vine explains. “It is wonderful to share in their joy when they announce they are going home or to a half-way house.”
Each evening starts with prayer before actual work with the text begins. Usually a hymn or song is also sung. Vine’s partner in this ministry is Paul Murphy, a Roman Catholic layperson. The two use the common lectionary in selecting passages for study so the program actually runs in tandem with the church year. Their preferred translation is the NIV (also quoted above).
A towering six feet eight inches, Vine is known to the inmates as “Little John.” By day he works for as a horticulturalist serving corporate clients of a national service provider. “After a busy and often tense day at work, I’m so uplifted by my time spent with these guys,” he says. “It’s a privilege to study scripture with them and share my knowledge.”

Vine is a member and sometime vestryperson at St. Michael’s Church, Wayne. His ministry is but one part of the Diocese of Newark Prison Ministry. Vine said he cherishes his colleagues in prison ministry, the Rev. Pamela Bakal, president of DNPM, and the Rev. Audrey Hasselbrook, DNPN member. Alleluia Fund dollars helped greatly in furthering this vital ministry in 2015. Diocese of the Virgin Islands When Irvin Mason Jr. says “I keep myself busy,” he’s not exaggerating.
The All Saints Cathedral School senior, the territory champion in the 2016 Poetry Out Loud contest, spent much of the first week in May in Washington, D.C., where he represented the Virgin Islands in the national competition, vying with contestants from all 50 states, D.C. and Puerto Rico. Diocese of Western New York Diocese to Offer Forum on Church-School Partnerships
• Does your church want to make a difference in your neighborhood? • Does your church want to reach children and families? • Does your church want to join the Jesus movement?
Presiding Bishop Michael Curry is calling the Episcopal Church to go into the neighborhood. One way for our congregations to do that is to build a relationship with the public schools in our neighborhoods. But many of our congregations don't know how to start, or don't know how to take the next steps in building the relationship.

Participants will visit the sites of active school partnerships in the Buffalo area. Workshops will outline the steps to building a new church-school partnership or delve into ways to sustain and develop existing partnerships. Event leaders will help you develop specific action steps to take back to your congregation. And of course, you'll make contacts and personal connections to help build local and regional networks.

Wisdom House: Introductory Wisdom School, Part A: Heart-Centered Living - Wisdom describes a foundational lineage of spiritual knowledge that underlies the Christian contemplative tradition and that outlines a detailed science of spiritual transformation. In this Part A Wisdom School, participants are introduced to the Wisdom way of knowing, including three-centered knowing, Benedictine balanced living, and heart-centered living. The specific practices of chanting and attention are presented. The Gospel of Thomas and the practice of lectio divina are also introduced. The balance and the rhythm of our time together (which, beyond the teaching, includes contemplative worship, conscious work, Wisdom of the body, and silence) become essential elements in preparing the participants to open to a whole new way of knowing.
