THE PRELUDE Gregory Land
Beautiful Savior ………………………. “Crusader’s Hymn”
Setting by F. Milius Christiansen
In Praise to the Lord
THE RINGING OF THE CHIMES
A three-fold ringing of three signifies the presence of the triune God:
Creator, Christ, and Holy Spirit.
CALL TO WORSHIP & PRAYER Rev. David Coggins
OPENING HYMN (See pg. 4) #45 The God of Abraham Praise LEONI
This hymn comes from a Jewish creedal doxology that is sung during the Sabbath eve service every week in
some traditions. Thomas Olivers made a Christological translation around 1770 from which these stanzas are
taken. The hymn begins by praising God for His might and power, as displayed through His relationship with
His people, and ends by looking forward to when all the people of God will join in everlasting praise around
the throne of God in heaven.

NEW TESTAMENT EPISTLE LESSON Marlene Hopper
Romans 5:1-8: Therefore, since we are justified by faith, we have peace with God through our
Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have obtained access to this grace in which we stand; and we
boast in our hope of sharing the glory of God. And not only that, but we also boast in our sufferings,
knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character
produces hope, and hope does not disappoint us, because God's love has been poured into our
hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us. For while we were still weak, at the right
time Christ died for the ungodly. Indeed, rarely will anyone die for a righteous person--though
perhaps for a good person someone might actually dare to die. But God proves his love for us in
that while we still were sinners Christ died for us.
Leader: Hear what the Spirit is saying to the Church.
People: Thanks be to God.

CALL TO PRAYER (See pg. 5) #613 I Love the Lord TESTIMONY
I love the Lord, He heard my cry and pitied every groan.
Long as I live, and troubles rise, I’ll hasten to His throne.
I love the Lord, He heard my cry and chased my grief away.
O let my heart no more despair while I have breath to pray.

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE & LORD’S PRAYER (Debts/Debtors) Rev. Coggins
SPECIAL MUSIC Mr. William Henry Caldwell, baritone
The Love of God …………..….……… F. M. Lehman
The love of God is greater far than tongue or pen can ever tell; it goes beyond the highest star, and reaches to
the lowest hell; the guilty pair bowed down with care, God gave His son to win; his erring child He reconciled,
and pardoned from His sin. When hoary time shall pass away, and earthly thrones and kingdoms fall; when
men who here refuse to pray, on rocks and hills and mountains call. God’s love, so sure, shall still endure, all
measureless and strong; redeeming grace to Adam’s race, the saints’ and angels’ song. Oh love of God, how
rich and pure! How measureless and strong! It shall forevermore endure the saints’ and angels’ song.
THE SERMON Rev. Dr. Kent Berghuis
“When God’s Love Flows”
Responding to God
HYMN OF RESPONSE (See pg. 6) #243 (Vs. 1&4) Spirit of God, Descend upon My Heart MORECAMBE
In this prayerful hymn, we ask God to move within us so that we may live a life of whole-hearted devotion to
Him, bathed in His presence and motivated by His love. We recall the “first and greatest commandment” to
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.”
BENEDICTION Rev. Dr. Berghuis
POSTLUDE Gregory Land
All Hail the Power of Jesus’ Name ………....…… setting by Paul Mickelson
First Baptist Church of Dayton continues its suspension of worship services and group gatherings until further
notice. We will be providing pre-recorded and live experiences through our website, Facebook and Zoom as we are
able. When the time is right we will regather for worship together again, and that will certainly be a day to
celebrate! Please continue to reach out to one another by phone, social media, and especially through prayer and
service in whatever ways you can. --Pastor Kent

Almighty God, we commend to your gracious care all the men and women of our armed forces at home and abroad.
