Their cavalry gallops headlong; their horsemen come from afar. They fly like an eagle swooping to devour; 9 they all come intent on violence. Their hordes advance like a desert wind and gather prisoners like sand. 10 They mock kings and scoff at rulers. They laugh at all fortified cities; by building earthen ramps they capture them. 11 Then they sweep past like the wind and go on—guilty people, whose own strength is their god.” 12 Lord, are you not from everlasting? My God, my Holy One, you will never die. You, Lord, have appointed them to execute judgment; you, my Rock, have ordained them to punish. 13 Your eyes are too pure to look on evil; you cannot tolerate wrongdoing. Why then do you tolerate the treacherous? Why are you silent while the wicked swallow up those more righteous than themselves? 14 You have made people like the fish in the sea, like the sea creatures that have no ruler. 15 The wicked foe pulls all of them up with hooks, he catches them in his net, he gathers them up in his dragnet; and so he rejoices and is glad. 16 Therefore he sacrifices to his net and burns incense to his dragnet, for by his net he lives in luxury and enjoys the choicest food. 17 Is he to keep on emptying his net, destroying nations without mercy? 2014 Theme Verse: Habakkuk 3:2 (turn over)

Message Scripture: Habakkuk 1niv

1The prophecy that Habakkuk the prophet received.2How long, Lord, must I call for help, but you do not listen? Or cry out to you, “Violence!” but you do not save?3Why do you make me look at injustice? Why do you tolerate wrongdoing? Destruction and violence are before me; there is strife, and conflict abounds.4Therefore the law is paralyzed, and justice never prevails. The wicked hem in the righteous, so that justice is perverted.5“Look at the nations and watch—and be utterly amazed. For I am going to do something in your days that you would not believe, even if you were told.6I am raising up the Babylonians, that ruthless and impetuous people, who sweep across the whole earth to seize dwellings not their own.7They are a feared and dreaded people;they are a law to themselves and promote their own honor.8Their horses are swifter than leopards, fiercer than wolves at dusk. Their cavalry gallops headlong; their horsemen come from afar. They fly like an eagle swooping to devour;9 they all come intent on violence. Their hordes advance like a desert wind and gather prisoners like sand.10They mock kings and scoff at rulers. They laugh at all fortified cities; by building earthen ramps they capture them.11Then they sweep past like the wind and go

on—guilty people, whose own strength is their god.”12Lord, are you not from everlasting? My God, my Holy One, you will never die. You, Lord, have appointed them to execute judgment; you, my Rock, have ordained them to punish.13Your eyes are too pure to look on evil; you cannot tolerate wrongdoing. Why then do you tolerate the treacherous? Why are you silent while the wicked swallow up those more righteous than themselves?14You have made people like the fish in the sea, like the sea creatures that have no ruler.15The wicked foe pulls all of them up with hooks, he catches them in his net, he gathers them up in his dragnet; and so he rejoices and is glad.16Therefore he sacrifices to his net and burns incense to his dragnet, for by his net he lives in luxury and enjoys the choicest food.17Is he to keep on emptying his net, destroying nations without mercy?

2014 Theme Verse: “I Stand in Awe”2LORD, I have heard of your fame; I stand in awe of your deeds, LORD. Repeat them in our day, in our time make them known; in wrath remember mercy. Habakkuk 3:2niv

Our Vision

In 2014, “We will demonstrate God’s love in creative and compelling ways that will lead people to...

Know God... I will honor God as I share my faith, the gospel of love, with someone who is seeking Him.

Worship Authentically...

I will honor God as I open my eyes to what He is doing around me every day and praise Him.

Grow Spiritually... I will honor God as I take a next step to grow my faith and live a holy life.

Serve Joyfully... I will honor God as I am “other-centered,” putting the needs of others before my own.

Connect Relationally...

I will honor God as I engage in Christ’s church by becoming an active member, or joining a small group, or nurturing a relationship with another Christ-follower that helps me live by faith.

We are a community with open hands, receiving from God all He wants to give, believing He wants to give us a lot; and with open hands we give it away, believing we cannot out-give God.”

We’re glad you are worshiping here today! Stay for coffee and conversation afterwards (the coffee is on us for first-time visitors). Visit the Welcome Center near the main entrance where your questions will be answered and you’ll receive a free coffee voucher!

If you are newer to Westwood, join us for Getting Acquainted, a casual gathering, on Jan 19 in the Prairie Room, 9:45–10:45am.

See Volume One for details.

For your information:

• Assisted listening devices are available from any usher. • If you have a medical emergency while here, please inform an usher and the

Medical Support Team will be contacted. • While the sound levels at our services are operated at safe levels, ear plugs are

available at the usher stations near the entrances if desired.

CommunionToday we come to the table, to remember Christ’s sacrifice. We invite everyone who is a follower of Jesus to participate in communion.

In the morning services... the bread and cup are passed to you as you are seated. Hold each element until everyone has received one and then we will all eat and drink together as Pastor Joel leads us. Gluten-free communion bread is available at each usher station.

In the ELEMENTS service... we invite you to come forward to the stations at the front of each aisle. The first server will be holding a tray of bread, remove a piece and then move to the second server who is holding the cup. Dip your bread into the cup, eat and drink before returning to your seat, using the walkways behind the side tiers. Gluten-free communion bread is available at the left side communion station.
