In order to remain in compliance with all healthcare guidelines, it was necessary to divide this year’s First Communion Class into two groups. One group of children received the Eucharist for the first time on June 27th and the second group of children made their First Holy Communion on July 18th. We congratulate each of them and extend our prayerful best wishes!

My Dear Friends,
I am writing to thank all of you, your Pastor and my Dear Friend, Father Joe Jarmoluk, most sincerely for your generous donation for our mission in Nigeria. Thank you very sincerely for your love, kindness and God-sent support for the work we are doing to help children (orphans), the poor, the sick and the needy. Your kindness, sacrifice, and generosity, again, enlivened the prayers in Psalm 125 (126) immediately in my heart and lips: “When the Lord delivered Zion from bondage, it seemed like a dream. Then was our mouth filled with laughter, on our lips there were songs.” Our Late Cardinal, Dominic Cardinal Ekandem, used to tell me during my time as his secretary that: There is a world of difference between a gift and sacrifice. A sacrifice is a gift plus the love and personality of the giver. A gift comes out of the pocketbook, and a sacrifice comes out of the heart. You have not only given us a gift, but you sacrifice a lot for us during Lent this year, coupled with the hard times we are facing due to COVID-19. May Our Mighty and Awesome God continue to bless and reward you most abundantly for all that you have done for us. Please be assured of my humble prayers and remembrance in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. I truly do not know how to thank you with such generosity and kindness. But I have faith and trust that God who rewards generous hearts will thank you for us with His choicest blessings. I pray that He continues to protect you and your dear ones from COVID-19 and all kinds of deadly sicknesses. Thanks for coming to the rescue of the poor. Surely from you, the song of the psalmist is fulfilled in us: “The Lord Hears the cry of the poor, blessed is the Lord.” If there is anything I can do in my ministry as a priest to be of help to you, your families and friends, please count on me. Permit me to conclude this letter with the Word of God from the Book of Proverbs, 19:17: “Whoever is generous to the poor, lends to the Lord, and He will repay him for his deeds” With renewed gratitude, best wishes, love and prayers,

The practice of requesting a Mass to be offered for loved ones, living or deceased, is a beautiful part of our Catholic tradition. In our parish, anyone may request a Mass intention by calling or sending an email to the parish office. Though no specific date can be guaranteed, every attempt to honor specific dates will be made. We encourage you to honor this sacred tradition, especially remembering our faithful departed brothers and sisters. Traditionally, Mass stipends are $10.
McHenry Deanery Council of Catholic Women St. Peter’s Parish 2020 Nominee for the Woman of Inspiration

We kindly ask you visit our parish website at StPeterCatholicChurch.org and download a nomination form. After completing it, just place it in the Sunday collection basket or drop it off at the Parish Office. Forms need to be submitted no later than Thursday, August 20th. Thank you for helping make a difficult job, easier!

The following article was written by Prince Bertrand of Orleans-Braganza. He is a direct descendant of King St. Louis IX,
whose statue angry people are trying to topple in Missouri. It is reprinted for your personal edification.
Some time ago, I visited the magnificent equestrian statue of Saint Louis IX that towers over Forest Park in St. Louis, Missouri. In the right hand of the holy king is an inverted sword, held out as a cross signifying his desire to defend the Catholic Faith against all adversaries. As a descendant of Saint Louis, in the direct paternal line, I was touched by the devotion of the locals to him, and the kindness they extended to me. I heard that some want to topple this statue. They want to tear it down as part of a worldwide movement to destroy everything that represents Western civilization. This hate campaign now extends to Catholic saints and includes good King Saint Louis IX. I immediately thought: Why do they hate King Saint Louis when he only did what was good? What did he do to deserve such hostility when he treated others with such Christian charity? Indeed, people of any station in life could come up to him at the legendary oak tree in Vincennes, present their complaints to him, and receive justice. For generations, his memory held my family members to the highest of standards. We felt called to honor his memory with good actions. He has constantly called on us to follow in his steps and display similar love of justice and charity. We need representative figures like King Saint Louis to guide society. I say this not because he is my ancestor. By his canonization, we are assured that his heroic virtues are worthy of emulation. King Saint Louis is a shinning figure of a statesman and leader that invites the admiration of all. Would that the world today had such political leaders like him! The reason I believe his statue must remain standing is that he represented so well the virtues we need most today: Love of honor, truth, justice, and the Faith. His statue is needed because the riotous monument topplers represent a disorder and destruction that will take society to ruin. They seek to destroy history and erase the memory of saintly men, like Saint Louis, precisely when such role models are most needed. We need the good and strong Saint Louis in these days of weak leadership and cowardly surrender. Saint Louis was renowned for his passion for justice. He was a statesman who pursued peace with the nations surrounding France by negotiating generous and equitable solutions to complex disputes. He also knew how to be firm in upholding the Catholic Faith. That is why he fought to free the Holy Land from the hands of its Muslim occupiers and stop their brutal and unjust persecution of Christians. Such was Saint Louis’s reputation that, when imprisoned by the Muslims during the Crusade, an emir asked to be dubbed a knight by him. Saint Louis answered: “Become Christian, and I’ll make you a knight.” Other Muslims would bring their cases before him to be judged. During his reign, he sent officials throughout the realm to announce in every city that anyone who had complaints against present or past royal officers and judges, for corruption or injustice, to come forward so that justice could be rendered and the tainted public officials removed from office. He was also famous for his Christian charity, especially towards the poor. He was a true father to his people and was beloved by them. He had dinner with beggars, washed their feet and ministered to their needs. He set up hospitals, schools and institutions to take care of the sick, poor and blind. The most important quality of my ancestor was his sanctity. Saint Louis IX was a holy king who loved God and the Blessed Mother. He avoided all sin and practiced heroic virtue. He spent long hours in prayer, fasted, and prayed much. The king said that he prayed long into the night so that France might sleep tranquilly. Everywhere he encouraged the practice of the Faith and endowed religious institutions and churches. As a descendant of Saint Louis, I was profoundly moved to hear that Catholics frequently gather at his monument in Forest Park, St. Louis, to pray the rosary and defend this symbolic and historical landmark. By remembering him with a statue, we do more than honor his memory. We recognize humbly that, through God’s mercy, good and holy leaders can exist again. Saint Louis challenges us to act with wisdom and courage. Let us keep the statue, lest we lose the highest of standards—those of Christian civilization—and tumble into chaos and anarchy.

A bill collector knocked on the door of a country debtor and asked the woman who answered the door, “Is Fred home?” “Sorry, Fred’s gone for cotton,” she replied. The next day the bill collector tried again. “Is Fred here today?” “No sir. I’m afraid he has gone for cotton.” When he returned the following day he humphed, “I suppose Fred has gone for cotton again?” “No, Fred died yesterday.” Suspicious that he was being avoided, the collector decided to wait a week and check the cemetery himself. But sure enough, there was poor Fred’s tombstone, with the inscription, “Gone, But Not for Cotton.”
A woman walks into a doctor’s office with both of her ears burned. “What happened?” asks the doctor. “While I was ironing my blouse, the phone rang, and I picked up the iron instead of the phone,” she says. “That explains one ear, but what about the other?” “The jerk called again!”
