Before the outbreak of WWI, the pocket watch was the most modern means of telling the time. But when the guns

of war fell silent and soldiers returned home, many things had changed. And a new kind of watch was born – the wristwatch. In the midst of war, when every attack is gov-erned by time, the soldiers grew weary of fiddling around with pocket watches. They needed an easier means of checking time in mid-battle. The solution lay in welding met-al loops to their pocket watch, then threading through a leather strap and fastening the watch to the arm. When the war ended, this practical solution spread to the general public. And the rest, as they say, is craftsman-ship history – embellished with a strife for technical and aes-thetical perfection. For GANT Time, this state of affairs is as given as it is in-spiring, because we too work in this tradition. Our work philosophy reflects our passionate approach to details. Every case is made in stainless steel and is the result of a long and unique pure craftsmanship process. Every watch reflects hours and hours of hand polish-ing before the piece is deemed ready. And there’s not a machine in the world that can match up to hand finishing. It yields a unique look and feel-

ing, the hallmark of fine craftsmanship. When the case is finished, it is fitted with a scratch resistant mineral crystal, and by the time the final case has passed its last inspection and been cleared to leave our workshop, it has been sub-jected to thorough quality controls that include precision, durability and water resistant tests. Each GANT watch is equipped with a high

precision quartz movement from Japan which gives ex-treme precision and accuracy. GANT is dedicated to details both in terms of durability and design. This is why we spend so much time on finding the right materials and expres-sions. Few components on a watch are subjected to as much wear and tear as the strap. This is why we only use leather from Montello, in the province of Treviso in northern Italy, an area renowned for its high quality leather. Once the long tanning process is complete,

the best parts are cut out and handsewn into perfect straps. All in the name of meeting our high quality demand for watch straps that only become more beautiful with age. So even if you are not about to go into battle, you might like to remember that your wrist-watch is a direct descendant of an ingenious idea that was born on the battlefield.

PARK HILLthe elements of t ime

The Park Hill has been a true icon in the GANT Time Collection for over a decade. An updated and refined version – The Park Hill II – is now being introduced.

For many of us, sports are all about one thing – timing. A single second out – and you are out. But a couple of centimeters

ahead will place you at the top of the winners’ podium. It all rides on fractions of seconds – and sometimes even less. But that’s the way it’s sup-posed to be. It’s all in the name of the game. And it’s probably one of the reasons why sport watches are constantly celebrat-ing new successes. The actual concept “sport watch” can mean very different things to different people. For us, it all began back in 1949 in New Haven on the Ameri-can East Coast. This is where GANT was founded, and one of the USA’s most revered universi-ties was already here – Yale. The spirit of this university is distin-guished by an intellectual and active lifestyle that is driven by a passionate will to succeed in studies, sports, and life lessons. GANT rapidly became a must-have among students, laying the ground for the classic Ivy League look. A demo-graphic and classless style, composed of chinos, worn tweed jackets, button-down shirts and well worn in penny loafers. A carefree playfulness that contrasted sharply with the conservative dress code of their parents’ generation. Another integral part of university life was the sports competitions. The Ivies have competed

in sports for as long as intercollegiate sports have existed in the USA. Rowing athletes kitted out in school colors stood prepared to fight to the last drop of sweat and blood in the Harvard/Yale Regatta. This is where lacrosse matches between the schools in Old Greenwich and New Hampshire were replaced by lawn tennis and sailing competi-tions out at the Yale Corinthian Yacht Club. And

it’s in the midst of this culture, renowned for producing so many Olympic champions, that our heritage lies. In our world, a good sport watch is like a good friend. It’s by your side come rain or shine, and never ever lets you down. It should be made in solid stainless steel and shock-proof to withstand the most extreme conditions. In order to meet these high demands, all GANT watches are handmade with the highest precision to en-sure they never stop when time is of the essence, and every case is hand polished through 20 steps

for ultimate perfection. And obviously, the watch is allergy and nickel-free, and sports an easy and highly attractive rubber strap. It should also be water resistant to a depth of 100 meters – at least. The Bradley Sport has all this. Plus, it should look just as great worn with a tennis shirt or a party jacket.
