Calvary
Calvary Baptist Church is a body of believers whose purpose is …
To glorify God by becoming disciples who know and live God’s will.
One Great Hour of Sharing
“I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one - I in them and you in me - so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.” John 17: 22 - 24 One Great Hour of Sharing is an offering that makes the love of Christ real for individuals and communities around the world who suffer the effects of disaster, conflict, or severe economic hardship, and for those who serve them through gifts of money and time. To-day, projects are underway in more than 100 countries, including the United States and Canada. In the 1990s, receipts have exceeded $20 million annually. While specific allo-cations differ in each denomination, all use their One Great Hour of Sharing funds to make possible disaster relief, refugee assistance, development aid and more. Please join us during June and specifically on June 22nd for this special offering. Our goal here at Calvary Baptist Church is $1100 which is only met through your contributions. Please prayerfully consider giving to this important ministry. Thank you, The Missions Board

A Message from Pastor Bret
see, we need God in the summer just as much as we need Him throughout the other seasons. One of the truly wonderful things about our relationship with God is the ability we have to worship and praise Him wher-ever we might find ourselves. So, as you head off this summer to relaxing destina-tions and new adventures, please remember to include your Bible and a block of time for God when you're packing your vacation gear. Pictures and souvenirs are nice, but nothing can compare to a strong and ongoing relationship with our Lord. It’s one of the marks of an authentic disciple. Besides, maybe those prayers will even help your fishing (but just keep in mind Jonah when you're asking God to help you land that big one). Have a GREAT summer!
Pastor Bret
"A good father is one of the most
unsung, unpraised,
unnoticed, and yet one of the most valuable
assets in our society."
-- Billy Graham, Christian Evangelist
Be careful that you do not forget the LORD your God, failing to observe his commands, his laws and his decrees that I am giving you this day.
Deuteronomy 8:11 I know, it's Oregon so what can a person expect? Still, it has been an unusual couple of weeks recently. One day I’m in my long sleeve shirt wearing a
jacket in the rain, the next day I’m working in the yard in shorts and a t-shirt under a gloriously warm sun. In fact, today, temperatures are anticipated to reach 90 degrees. Though summer does not officially begin until June 21st, it’s growing increasingly difficult not to make the mental switch to a summer mind-set. Fortunately, as disciples of Jesus Christ, it does not matter whether it's winter, summer, fall, or spring, for our God is a God who is always there for us. However, while it's true that God is always there for us, the question does arise as to whether we're always there for God - especially in the summer? Summer means camping. Summer means trips to Newport, or to Disneyland, or to visit family in Oklahoma. Summer means boat rides, wilder-ness hikes, Volcanoes baseball games, and going fish-ing. Yet, with all of the activity and excitement encom-passed by summer, do we include God in it? One of the realities about church life at Calvary is that things gear down noticeably during the summer months. I must confess that when I first came to Oregon I found this puzzling. Now, after having lived here awhile and knowing that the rainy season often lasts 7-8 months, I am much more understanding of the desire to take full advantage of every single sunny day that we get. It is important, however, that in our rush to the lakeshore, the beach, or the campgrounds that we not rush right past God. Please don't misunderstand me. I like sum-mer and sunny days and vacations. However, while we may take a vacation from the home or the workplace, I hope that we will not take a vacation from God. You

Direct Line to
the Father
Faith gives birth to prayer, and grows stronger, strikes deeper, rises higher, in the
efforts and struggles of mighty petitioning. “Faith is
the substance of things hoped for, the assurance and realization of the inheritance of the saints.” Faith is also humble and persevering. It
can wait and pray; it can stay on its knees, or lie in the
dust. It is the one great con-dition of prayer. The lack of it
lies at the root of all poor praying, feeble praying, little
praying, unanswered praying.
