Welcome to King of Kings! Our prayer is that the Holy Spirit will draw you closer to the living God through your time of worship with us today and strengthen your connection to Christ our Savior. Please refer to the maps at both entrances for location of rooms.

A staffed nursery is available for children through kindergarten age.

Prayer cards are available just outside the Worship Center (gym).

The Education hour begins at 9:45 am. Current studies include:

Adults: Life Together, Set Apart (Pastor John, Fellowship Hall)

Junior and Senior High Youth (grades 6 – 12): Not-So-Nice Bible Stories – Master Criminals (Laura Pieper and Su Polzin, room 100)

Sunday School: Hands-On Bible Study (ages 3 through grade 5, gather in Luther Chapel for opening)

“In Joyful Response!” (John 1:16)

Welcome to Promise Sunday! When we – with the help of the Holy Spirit – spend

part of our time in Lent revisiting our God in action through the pages of

Scripture, we see God, without hesitation, piling up His blessings – blessings the

Apostle John identifies as “grace upon grace”. God’s amazing and undeserving

giving – especially as seen in His greatest gift, His Savior Son – prompts our

eagerness to willingly bring our gifts and promises before Him on this special day!

May the Holy Spirit shape and empower our daily giving as we, with eyes of faith,

continue to see what God has given, and what God is, right now, graciously

giving!

Greeting and Announcements Pastor John

We Prepare our Hearts for Worship Lighting of the Candles

Preparation for Confession “The Heart of Worship”

When the music fades, all is stripped away, and I simply come. Longing just to bring something that’s of worth that will bless Your heart.

I’ll bring You more than a song, for a song in itself is not what You have required. You search much deeper within through the way things appear.

You’re looking into my heart.

I’m coming back to the heart of worship And it’s all about You, it’s all about You, Jesus.

I’m sorry, Lord, for the thing I’ve made it, When it’s all about You, it’s all about You, Jesus.

We Confess Our Sins

P: In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. C: Amen. P: The Lord says to His people: “I am a jealous God. Worship only Me.” C: Forgive us, Lord, for our half-hearted worship and for our lack of devotion to

You. P: The Lord says to His people: “Everything you have is a gift from Me. Use it for My

glory and to advance My Kingdom on earth.” C: Forgive us, Lord, for hoarding the treasures You have so freely given. P: The Lord says to His people: “Love one another as I have loved You.” C: Forgive us, Lord, for our selfish attitudes and our lack of love. ALL: Forgive us, Lord. (silence)

We Rejoice in God’s Forgiveness

P: The Lord says to His people: “I loved the world so much that I gave My one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life.”

C: Thank You, Lord, for the gift of Your Son and the forgiveness He brings. P: The Lord says to His people: “You are My workmanship. I created you anew in

Christ Jesus, so you can do the good things I planned for you long ago.” C: Help us, Lord, to live for Your glory. May Your love compel us to do all those

things You have planned for each of us and use all we have for Your purposes. Thank You for calling us Your own. Amen.

P: In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ and by His authority, I forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

C: Amen.

Response of Gratitude “Amazing Grace (My Chains are Gone)”

Amazing grace! How sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me! I once was lost but now am found, was blind but now I see.

The Lord has promised good to me; His Word my hope secures. He will my shield and portion be as long as life endures.

My chains are gone, I’ve been set free. My God, my Savior, has ransomed me. And like a flood His mercy reigns, unending love, amazing grace.

My chains are gone, I’ve been set free. My God, my Savior, has ransomed me. And like a flood His mercy reigns, unending love, amazing grace.

The earth shall soon dissolve like snow, the sun forbear to shine. But God who called me here below, will be forever mine,

Will be forever mine, will be forever mine.

The Old Testament Lesson Isaiah 12: 1 – 6 (The Lord’s people break out in song because of their salvation, proclaiming God’s deeds to all.)

The Epistle Lesson 2 Corinthians 5: 16 – 21 (God has redeemed and restored the believer into a new sphere of existence, recreated as a person of faith in Jesus Christ who desires to live in and for Him alone. As recipients of God’s grace, God has called those who believe to be witnesses to those who do not yet know Him of God’s gracious restoration through His Savior Son.)

1You will say in that day: “I will give thanks to you, O LORD, for though you were angry with me, your anger turned away, that you might comfort me.

2”Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and will not be afraid; for the LORD GOD

is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation.”

3With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation. 4And you will say in that day: “Give thanks to the LORD, call upon his name, make known his deeds among the peoples, proclaim that his name is exalted.

5”Sing praises to the LORD, for he has done gloriously; let this be made known in all the earth. 6Shout, and sing for joy, O inhabitant of Zion, for great in your midst is the Holy One of Israel.”

16From now on, therefore, we regard no one according to the flesh. Even though we once regarded Christ according to the flesh, we regard him thus no longer. 17Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. 18All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; 19that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. 20Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. 21For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

The CrossConnections Team

You are beautiful, my sweet, sweet song…You are beautiful, my sweet, sweet song.

You are beautiful, my sweet, sweet song…and I will sing again.

You are so good to me; You heal my broken heart; You are my Father in heaven (2X)

You are beautiful, my sweet, sweet song…You are beautiful, my sweet, sweet song.

You ride upon the clouds; You lead me to the truth; You are the Spirit inside me (2X)

You are beautiful, my sweet, sweet song…You are beautiful, my sweet, sweet song.

You are beautiful, my sweet, sweet song…and I will sing again.

You are my strong melody; You are my dancing rhythm.

You are my perfect rhyme; And I will sing of You forever.

You poured out all Your blood; You died upon the cross;

You are my Jesus who loves me (2X)

You are beautiful, my sweet, sweet song…You are beautiful, my sweet, sweet song.

You are beautiful, my sweet, sweet song…and I will sing again. (repeat)

You are my Father in heaven;

You are the Spirit inside me;

You are my Jesus who loves me…

The Holy Gospel (please rise) John 1: 14 – 17 (Christ is an interminable well, the chief source of all grace, truth, righteousness, wisdom, and life – without limit, measure, or end.)

14And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. 15(John bore witness about him, and cried out, “This was he of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me ranks before me, because he was before me.’”) 16And from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace. 17For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

We Confess our Christian Faith

P: Not only are we called to confess what we have done and what we have failed to do, but we are also called to confess what we believe about God and the mission that He has given. The act of worshippers confessing what they believe about God is the most ancient component of Christian worship. This morning we will use the Second Article of the Apostles’ Creed with its explanation from the Small Catechism as our confession of faith.

P: What is the Second Article of the Apostles’ Creed? C: And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy

Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.

P: What does this mean? C: I believe that Jesus Christ, true God, begotten of the Father from eternity, and

also true man, born of the virgin Mary, is my Lord, who has redeemed me, a lost and condemned person, purchased and won me from all sins, from death, and from the power of the devil; not with gold or silver, but with His holy, precious blood and with His innocent suffering and death, that I may be His own and live under Him in His kingdom and serve Him in everlasting righteousness, innocence, and blessedness, just as He is risen from the dead, lives and reigns to all eternity. This is most certainly true.

Children’s Message Pastor John

Message Hymn “Take My Life”

Take my life and let it be consecrated, Lord, to Thee; Take my moments and my days, let them flow in ceaseless praise.

Let them flow in ceaseless praise.

Take my silver and my gold, not a mite would I withhold; Take my intellect and use ev’ry pow’r as Thou shalt choose.

Ev’ry pow’r as Thou shalt choose.

Take my will and make it Thine, it shall be no longer mine; Take my heart, it is Thine own, it shall be Thy royal throne.

It shall be Thy royal throne. (to page 6)

Explanation of Giving our Promises Pastor John

Song of Preparation “The Heart of Worship”

King of endless worth, no one could express how much You deserve. Though I’m weak and poor, all I have is Yours, every single breath.

I’m coming back to the heart of worship And it’s all about You, it’s all about You, Jesus.

I’m sorry, Lord, for the thing I’ve made it, When it’s all about You, it’s all about You, Jesus; it’s all about You, Jesus.

Weekly Adult Bible Studies

Join Us for Bible Study Today, “Life Together, Set Apart” As Christians face the increasingly hostile environment of a post-Christian society, it’s too easy to fall back on our animal instincts—to run, fight or hide, blend in or—worse yet compromise. In Christ here we are in the world and will stay until the Lord calls us to Himself. So how do we live in the world and yet also live set apart from this world? Pastor John invites you to Bible Class at 9:45 am in the Fellowship Hall.

Lenten Evening Bible Study on Original Sin Our journey in the Lenten season is a time to reflect on our sinfulness and the need for Christ. In a short three session study, we’ll be looking at the topic of Original Sin using the Formula of Concord as a guide to understand the Scripture’s teaching on this topic. We’ll meet on March 24, 31 and April 7 from 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm in the King of Kings’ Library. All are welcome to join us for some lively discussion and study. If you have questions, please contact Jane Glandorf. A copy of the study materials are available in her church mailbox.

Please help by taking down chairs after the service

in preparation for school tomorrow. Thank you

Church News

Join Us Wednesdays at 12:15 pm For Lenten Worship This Wednesday, April 3, (12:15 pm) we recall that the man Jesus had to be born and grow in the body of, and under the care of, His mother. But Mary is also His disciple, given to another, John, at the foot of the cross. And in our human relationships, we are all, parents and children, disciples of the man Jesus.

As we move through this season of Lent, it will become increasingly clear why God became man: He lived this physical life in order to be nailed to a cross. Thereby, we are truly preparing for the celebration of His real, bodily, flesh-and-blood resurrection. Without that, our faith and our preaching are all in vain. God the Son became the embodied, incarnate Son of Mary. In Jesus, God has human flesh, a body, just like us. What could be more profound? Behold the man, who has led the way for us through death to our own physical resurrection.
