Our new page, located at www.twitter.com/lionsclubsorg, allows PR to send out quick, frequent news items about our association – and “Club News” from Lions worldwide – such as recent items about the wildfires in Australia. It also gives Lions a new way to stay up-to-date with LCI and clubs around the world. Our MySpace was named the “Non-Profit MySpace of the Month” for February 2009. We’ve also updated our page with new blog posts, photos of Jimmy Carter’s recent visit and hundreds of kind messages from more than 2,000 “friends” around the world – including hundreds of Lions and Leos. Check it out at www.myspace.com/lionsclubsorg. And last, but not least, our YouTube channel has nearly 550 subscribers. Since we launched the channel last July, other YouTube members have viewed our videos nearly 50,000 times on www.youtube.com/lionsclubsorg - including more than 1,000 views of our new Jimmy Carter video in less than one week. And we’ve all heard about the poten- tial dangers of skin cancer. If you’re beyond the pale when it comes to using sunscreen, keep these tips in mind: • Always use a sunscreen with SPF15 or higher • Use at least one ounce to cover your arms, legs, neck and face • Protect your lips by using sunscreen lip balm • Avoid using sunscreen on babies younger than six months—use hats, clothing and shade for protection • Consider cosmetics that contain sunscreen • Choose broad spectrum products that guard against the sun’s UVA and UVB rays Getting sunburned or tanned on a regular basis could signal a red flag about your skin’s health. Whenever you’re in the sun, heed the warning and slather on some sunscreen to keep beauty – and your health – skin deep. SOURCE: AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY

LIONS RECOGNIZE PATTY DUKERecently, District 37-N in Northwest Montana and Southern Alberta, Canada, recognizedactress and Honorary Lion Patty Duke for her contributions to society, includingpromoting the theatre arts (as an actress and former president of the Screen ActorsGuild), her activism for numerous mental health causes (including the Patty Duke OnlineCenter for Mental Wellness, www.pattyduke.net), and her outreach to the deaf and theblind through her role as Helen Keller in the Broadway play and subsequent film, “TheMiracle Worker.”

District Governor-elect Pam Beyer sharedthe following:“I was privileged to givean award to Ms. Duke thispast weekend for hercourage and talent. Shehas been profoundlyconnected with HelenKeller since her role asHelen Keller in ‘TheMiracle Worker.’ Ms. Dukelives in Coeur d'Alene,Idaho (District 19-E). Igrew up not far from Ms.Duke in New York, andboth she and I met HelenKeller under differentcircumstances but hadthat connection. She hasalso been an advocate ofmental wellness, as shehas a Web site and wasforthright in admitting her illness and promoting her medication, lithium, back in the 80s.Ms. Duke has authored two books: her autobiography ‘Call Me Anna’ and ‘BrilliantMadness: Living With Manic Depressive Illness.’ This hit us personally, as our oldestdaughter was also diagnosed with that illness only after Ms. Duke had the courage tobring it to national attention.”

Duke is still an activist and actress. On March 24, Duke took over the role ofMadame Morrible from Carol Kane in the San Francisco production of “Wicked.” Formore information about Duke, visit Call Me Anna: The Official Patty Duke Web site atwww.officialpattyduke.com/home.htm.

insider pollWith spring officially under way, the weather is starting to warm up. Among otheractivities, this means an upsurge in concert events. Which upcoming concert areyou looking forward to seeing? Please e-mail your responses to Kristopher Kempski, Public Relations.

The following is in response to the last Insider Poll:Working here at headquarters, we see and hear about a wide variety of projectsbeing undertaken by Lions members from around the world. With what type ofprojects would you like to see Lions more involved?

“I would like to see Lions do more work with infestations. Currently, our grant criteriaprohibit providing funding for emergencies brought on by infestations but in many parts ofthe world, deadly plagues and massive hoards of roaming creatures threaten human life. Wehave in fact received requests for help fighting the scourge of bandicoot rats in northeasternIndia and killer bees are probably not far behind.”Erin Crouch, LCIF Humanitarian Programs
