In-Home Domestic Assistance
February 2015
February 2015
WELCOME…. Welcome to Communify’s In-Home Domestic Assistance provided by our team of
domestic workers or by approved Communify contractors.
As we get older, many people have difficulty managing their day to day household
chores. We are here to support people over the age of 65 who are experiencing
challenges in managing these household duties. We can work with you to help
you keep your home clean and tidy as well as with managing some of your other,
more difficult, household tasks.
This guide will give you some information about what you can expect from
Communify’s In-Home Domestic Service as well as give you information about
getting ready for our visits.
If you would like assistance to go through this information or would like to find out
more, please call our Domestic Facilitator.
Communify provides a range of services that support people in our community.
The Welcome to Communify booklet (which is included in your folder) will give
you information about other ways that we can help. We encourage you to contact
us about how our other services may be able to assist you to remain independent
and connected to your community. Please call us. We’d love to have a chat.

WHAT WE DO
Communify’s Domestic Service is tailored to suit your needs.
Our aim is to support you to live independently in the community and to assist you to
maintain your home.
Together with our Facilitator you will write a Domestic Support Agreement that will list the
tasks that you are finding difficult. We will agree on what areas are to be cleaned and what
additional tasks you may need done. This might include hanging washing or changing
sheets if these are things that you can’t manage yourself.
The plan may change over time depending on your needs. If you’d like to make changes to
your Domestic Support Agreement please talk to our Facilitator. Your Domestic Worker
who comes to clean can’t make changes to your Domestic Support Agreement.
If your home is large or if you have more than one bathroom, it may be that the whole of
your home can’t be cleaned each visit and we may arrange to alternate which areas we
clean.

WHAT WE CAN’T DO
Some tasks are not safe for us to do or are we are not funded to provide through our
service. We ask that you respect that our service can’t meet all your household needs.

Clean large outdoor areas
Scrub floors by hand

APPOINTMENTS
On the day of your service please be ready for your Domestic Worker’s visit so you can get
the most out of your allocated time.
We will try our best to schedule your service at the best time to suit you and will discuss
your booking when our facilitator visits you at home.
Before your worker arrives please:
Be showered, dressed and ready to meet us at the door.
Check that you have your cleaning equipment ready for us
Check that your home is safe for our visit e.g. check for trip hazards
Put away anything lying on the floor so it can be vacuumed and mopped
Put away anything that is very personal and private
Put away any medication or syringes
Have the correct fee ready to give to your Domestic Worker (unless you have a direct
payment arranged)
Please remember not to smoke in your home during your service.
GETTING TO YOU
Due to traffic conditions and our busy schedule your Domestic Worker may not always be
on time. Please allow at least 1 hour after your approximate appointment time before you
contact Communify to enquire as to their whereabouts. Please understand that from time
to time we may have to make changes to your service time to fit in with staff leave and
other clients’ changing circumstances.

FEES / Co-contribution
Your Domestic Assistance Service is subsidised by the government. You will also be
expected to pay a fee.
We will let you know if there will be any changes to your service or your fee.
If you are struggling to make these payments please contact our Domestic Facilitator. We
can also arrange a free appointment with our Financial Counsellor who may be able to
assist.
How to pay for your service
Our preferred payment method is by direct payment. When you are new to our service
we will accept a cash or cheque payment until your preferred direct payment is in place.
Please discuss your payment options with our facilitators on 3366 7476.
Cancellations
If you need to cancel or change your appointment please give us at least 24 hours notice
by contacting our office or your contractor. If you don’t give us 24 hours notice
unfortunately we will have to charge you your usual fee.
Where possible we will try to make an alternative appointment for you but cancelling your
appointment may mean that you will miss your service for that fortnight.
If we need to cancel or change your appointment (due to staff being unavailable or severe
weather conditions) we will try to give you as much notice as possible. We will talk with
you about making alternative arrangements for your service.
