Initial Assessment
Pass the Buck
Children to make a circle holding hands (no more than 7), if possible have 2 or more groups
competing against each other:
Place a ball in a child’s left hand
They must pass the ball to their right hand
Using their right hand they must pass the ball to the next person’s left hand (working anti-
clockwise)
This is repeated until the ball is back to the beginning when all the children sit down
A person must only use the correct hand to send and receive i.e. they must not take the ball
from the person’s right hand with their right hand it must go
o LEFT – RIGHT – LEFT – RIGHT etc.
Repeat the game but start with the right hand and go clock-wise
To make more difficult get them to pass the ball around their body before passing it to the
next person
Circle Hoop
Children to make a circle holding hands (no more than 7), if possible have 2 or more groups
competing against each other:
Children to hold hands at all times
Place a hoop between two children’s hands (continue to hold hands afterwards)
Children must pass the hoop around the circle without breaking hands
Children to send hoop clockwise and anticlockwise
Make more difficult by adding another hoop
o Eyes closed
o One person allowed to talk
Cat Basket Relay
Children to be in small teams one behind each other:
One at a time, each child tries to send a coloured bean bag to the corresponding coloured
basket
Work as relay until all the beanbags have been used
Allocate points for each colour
To make more difficult space the coloured baskets and different distances

Teams to face each other each with a line down the middle, each group has a foam ball
On a signal players sends (under/over arm/kicking etc) their foam ball over a line in the
direction of the opposite team
After a set period, balls are counted to see who has the least balls
Balls Hoops
Spread the team out evenly between two hoops set at a reasonable distance. Children must be able
to send a small tennis ball to each other but not so close as they can pass it, and not too far apart so
as to make it too difficult to receive:
Place a set number of balls in the first hoop with one child
This child must send one ball at a time from child to child to the last hoop
Winning team is the team with the most balls in the hoop or gets all of them in before the
other teams

When collecting bean bags and bibs, give them a value and write the value on a white board.
At the end all children to add up their score (working on numeracy within PE).
Allow three rounds of this game and add up the total scores.

The first travelling method to be walking and if they are showing positive signs of spacial awareness, progress to another means of travelling (skipping/side stepping/jogging)
Swap taggers around so that everyone has a go at tagging

Each child to send their bean bag one at a time to the hoop and then all collect after everyone is finished
Introduce after a few attempts, if the bean bag lands inside the hoop they take one step back each time it lands in the hoop.

Children to be placed in pairs with two cones in front of their feet
Each child to be four paces away from one another
Each child to have a bean bag and one at a time to send and hit the target, if they hit a cone then they collect the cone and add to their set of cones

given the number 1-6) o Stand along a line with 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 fingers in the air, rest of the class to get in the ready position 1 and when given a number 1-6 they
must jog to their team leader
Teams to be spread in a linear line one metre apart. First person to stand in a hoop with as many bean bags as people in the team

Main Session o Separate the class into 6 teams. o Each team are to be given coloured bibs and a hoop. o Each team is to sit in lines around the outside of the area facing inwards behind their hoop. o On the inside of the area, 10 yards from each teams hoop there must be a flat marker and all bean bags are to be put in the middle of
the area. o One student at a time is to travel from their line into the middle of the area, collect one bean bag and then travel back towards their
team. When the student reaches the flat marker they will need to send their bean bag into their teams hoop using an under arm throwing technique.
o If the student misses the hoop they cannot try again, the bean bag must be left where it is. If the bean bag goes in the hoop they score one point for their team.
o Once the bean bag has been thrown the student then needs to high 5 the next student in the line and then return to the back of the line.

area. o One student at a time is to travel from their line into the middle of the area, collect a soft foam ball and then travel back towards their team.
When the student reaches the flat marker they will need to send their soft foam ball to their partner standing in their teams hoop using an underarm throwing technique. If their partner catches the ball they place the ball in the hoop, if the ball is dropped it is placed outside the hoop. Progression use more than one target, a small hoop and a big hoop with a child standing in each hoop. Smaller hoop is worth more points than the bigger hoop.
o If the soft foam ball is dropped it is placed to the side of the hoop, if successful points are gained depending on the size of the hoop. o Once the soft foam ball has been thrown the student then needs to high 5 the next student in the line and then return to the back of the line.

Spread ten hoops around the set area
One child to wear a coloured bib that matches the colour of the hoop and then they are to stand next to the hoop
The other two team members are to have one bean bag between them
The child with the bean bag is to travel around the area and send the bean bag in the hoop that matches the same colour as their bean bag
The child standing next to the hoop collects the bean bag and send the bean bag to the child who did not send it into the hoop, Then this child finds the
next coloured hoop that is the same colour as their bean bag
Rotate children wearing the bibs next to the hoop after 1-2 minutes
Introduce a points scoring system if the bean bag lands and stays in the hoop
Bonus points if they receive the bean bag with their hands
Add coloured cones that represent the same colour as the bean bags – these cones are to represent bonus targets when a hoop is not available. If a cone
is struck they gain one bonus point
Progress from sending a red bean bag to a red hoop by telling the children that red bean bags are too go to yellow hoops and yellow bean bags are to go

Assessment Game:
The “Colour match” core task involves children sending different pieces of equipment as accurately as possible in order to hit targets.
The children work in groups of three and take it in turn to be the thrower, scorer and collector.
Each group has three different-coloured targets (e.g. hoops, cat baskets or spots) set at different distances and selects 10 pieces of equipment (e.g. quoits, different size balls, screwed up pieces of paper, beanbags) in colours to match the targets.
One person sends each item to a target, one keep scores and the other runs and collects the item. Pupils rotate so each child has two attempts at sending.
Check understanding by identifying the children sending the bean bag to the correct coloured objects for LA/MA/HA and children to peer/self-evaluate

Choose 6 teams who will stand in a line facing a triangle of 6 cones around 5 steps away.
One person at a time from each group has to throw the bean bag to land on cone situated in front of them.
If the learner hits the cone they can then add the cone to a different team’s collection.
Object of the game is to move all your cones to the different teams to win the game.
Repeat game. If one team is winning a majority of the time ask those learners to place their cones further away.

Each child must be in the running starting position when receiving the baton and look forward. Encourage the child making the pass to verbally communicate with the receiver so that the pass is made on the move.
