Uncommon photos for the common good
IN COMMON Images™ is a photobank with a purpose. Our “uncommon”
photographers and head turning images are determined to help heal the
world. Our corporate partners are making it happen.
IN COMMON is a photobank of 64,000+ images updated weekly taken by
some of the world’s most unusual photographers.
n IN COMMON Legends Series. Nobel Prize winners. Pioneers of civil rights. Award-winning
journalists. Beloved authors. This is the IN COMMON Legends series. What you don’t know
about these legends is that they are also photographers. Documentarians of their shared
belief that regardless of our religion or skin color or the place we call home, we are all
members of a glorious, interconnected family. And that This shared humanity, represented
in the Legend series, is a balm that will heal the world.
n IN COMMON Children’s Series. Four year old Lara from Vida, Argentina. Eight year old Ian
from County Cork, Ireland. Ten year old Nkwame from Zimbabwe. Each holds a camera for
the first time and documents what touches their hearts. This is the IN COMMON Children’s
series, a stunning portfolio of images that leap off the page with their unexpected wisdom
and spontaneity. From a single fresh-picked olive in a terra cotta bowl to a belly-button’s
eye view of a tribal dance, these photos are unmatched for intimacy, power
and exuberance.
n IN COMMON Milestones Series. The first tooth, the first step, the first
day of school. These are the milestones of childhood and parenting,
regardless of where they call home. This is the IN COMMON Milestones
series, a collection of celebratory images taken on almost every
continent that revel in our world’s shared humanity.
Together these images form a photobank of breathtaking scope and
power. And now, for the first time, they are being made available to
select, socially responsible corporations to use in telling their stories.

In Common’s DOUBLE Exposure: 2 ways to give back
Corporations that want fabulous photos have many places to turn – if all they want is fabulous
photos. But suppose you want more? Suppose you want the photos you use to reflect your
socially responsible reputation? Suppose you want your use of the photos to make a tangible
difference in the world? Then you want IN COMMON’s double exposure.
Who is behind in common?
IN COMMON is a creation of the Milestones Project, a nonprofit producer of
photographic images that celebrate the universal milestones of childhood
in order to affirm our common humanity. Exhibitions of Milestones Project
photos have been seen by over 200 million people worldwide. The
Milestones Project Book received the Childrens Book Council’s Notable
Book Award in 2005. In 2003 the Milestones Project was recognized by
the United Nations with its prestigious Peace and Tolerance Award.
Founders of the Milestones Project are Dr. Richard and Michele Steckel,
who in 1998 committed their lives to highlighting the commonalities
between people as a means of reducing ethnic, racial, and religious strife.
In the decade and a half since, the Steckels have traveled the world, photographing the
milestones of childhood across religious, ethnic and cultural borders, and turning their tens

of thousands of images into curricula, books, community conversations, and singular
exhibitions that have been viewed worldwide. In 2007 the Steckels were named
Purpose Prize Fellows, an award that honors individuals in the second half of life who
are tackling America’s most urgent issues. In 2008 they received the Dr. Martin Luther
King, Jr. Distinguished Service Award as well as the National Education Association’s
Human & Civil Rights Award. Their work has been featured in Time magazine.
Licensing fees from IN COMMON support the award winning work of the nonprofit
Milestones Project. Through public exhibitions, books, classroom materials, and
projects such as Precious!, which provides family portraits to low-income families,
the Milestones Project uses the power of photography to encourage mutual respect
and understanding.
