Improving your prospects with LAWBORE

Fellow Law students, you may be thinking… the title itself says LawBORE, surely that’d be the last place you would look...

THINK NOTWith its very many aspects, some good and some bad, Lawbore provides a range facilities that will assist you in your Legal studies.

First and foremost, for us students to have access to Lawbore we must simply go onto http://moodle.ac.uk and enter our usernames and passwords

Once on the Lawbore website our eyes are drawn immediately to our

friendly guide to Lawbore. (Well it’s not really her but close enough!)

Lawbore is so ingeniously designed that everything is so clear and

knowing we can ask any question is extremely helpful!

As first year Law students we all

need our books and what better way to

find books that fit our specification!

This fun and interactive tool

enables us to flick through a variety of

books and choose the ones we need.

EVENTS CALENDERAs a Law student, and prospective solicitor or barrister it is without say very important to make the right impression and connections with the law firms and legal practitioners that best suit us and our interests. The Events calendar is the easiest way in searching for significant events that are happening in not only City University but also other institutions. Also, particularly in university where it is very much up to the student as to finding out about events, this makes the researching a lot easier as unlike search engines the events calendar is more condensed allowing us to know of the more relevant events to attend.

Particularly for first year students it is also helpful

that there are events about topics other than what we are studying.

Understanding legal abbreviations

The most daunting task in being a Law Student is arguably getting your head around the books, cases, journals and articles, and knowing where to look and

how to extract exactly what you need. This is also not helped by the use of abbreviations. However the video on legal citations and abbreviations explains in detail, what they mean, what they are used for, and how to overcome the

difficulties of finding a mass number of jurisdictions under your citation.

Tips for MootingMooting is probably the most scary, but also exciting part of studying law, as it is our first insight into how it is fighting a real case with a judge. Although for many of us it is a new thing, which is why the page on mooting tips is very useful.

No. 7 I felt was very helpful, as it sometimes feels there is nothing worse than not feeling confident about your argument, as this would then effect your performance

No. 15 is also very handy, as it will make our overall

argument seem more professional, however it will

also be useful to know of the general structure and

discourse of a moot, for students who have never

experienced one before
