  • NEED ANALYSIS INSTRUMENT

    1. Introduction

    The teaching of English in Senior High School is aimed at the mastery of the

    four language skills; listening, speaking, reading and writing. One of the four

    language skills, students often have difficulty in listening skill. One item of listening

    that students must have is the ability to understand audio in English. Listening skill

    has not been given proper attention of the teachers in teaching learning English as a

    second or foreign language in secondary schools in Indonesia (Suparmin, 1999: 221).

    2. Beginning

    Given the importance of students' perceptions of learning English, the program

    that I created aims to improve listening skills especially for Senior High School in

    grade XI.

    3. Research Metodology

    Here I use a research method in the form of a questionnaire. I made an online

    questionnaire using Google Form. The questionnaire was filled out online by 11th

    grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Kuala Tungkal. In the questionnaire, there is three

    aspects namely Wants, Needs and Lacks.

    In this aspect, students want a classroom learning model just by

    listening to audio / video and discussing related questions about it. To

    make it easier for students to understand, they want the teacher to ask

    them to explain again the main idea of the video / audio they have heard.

    In class activities, students want them to be able to work in groups and

    also individually in understanding audio / video. Students want the

    teacher to ask them to look for the meaning of the new vocabulary they

    find. Most students agreed with the statement I made in this aspect.

    In the aspect of needs, all students agree that learning English is

    very useful and listening to audio in English is something that should be

    accustomed to. In this aspect, some students stated that they already

  • understood the listening material applied by the teacher, meaning that

    some of their needs had been obtained appropriately in the learning

    process so far. Most students like listening learning in the form of

    listening english song and listening to the video.

    In the lack aspect, some students think that listening skills are

    difficult and some don't think so. Students often have difficulty

    understanding conversation and understanding the core of video / audio in

    English. Some students find it difficult to explain the video / audio they

    have listened to.

    in its phrase.

    The Generic Structure of Recount Text :

    Orientation provide information about the setting (when/where) and

    introduces (who).
