Improving the lives of rural women in Myanmar
z
In Myanmar, rural women have less access to technology, land and markets
In addition, they are often subject to gender stereotypes, even the belief that women lack the capabilities to become effective leaders. LIFT is working to change this.
Around 12% of the families that LIFT has reached are headed by women
LIFT projects work for a gender balance in agricultural and other training, with some projects providing child care
Women represent 75% of LIFT microfinance clients
And women make up 49% of people who have taken part in LIFT funded training
Most of LIFT’s entrepreneurs are women - 96% of the people who established businesses after training are women
41% of cash-for-work labourers are women
LIFT also promotes fair and equal pay
And now that they are seeing the fruits of their labour, women’s attitudes are changing
“Before the LIFT project came to the village, the women here didn’t voice their opinions.
But now they are very vocal and active!”
