ABSTRACT
IMPROVING STUDENTS’ MOTIVATION IN LEARNING
VOCABULARY BY USING PANTOMIME
(An Action Research at Fourth Grade Students of SD N 1 Kendaga Academic
Year 2010/2011)
This research was aimed at improving students‟ motivation in learning
vocabulary by using pantomime.
The research was carried out at SD N 1 Kendaga, Kecamatan Ban
jarmangu in the academic year 2011/2012. The research used a classroom action
research. The writer took class IV as the subect of the research. In collecting the
data, the writer used observation, questionnaire, and interview. Then, for
analyzing the data the writer used quantitative data
Based on the result, pantomime was able to improve students‟ motivation
in learning vocabulary. The observation result showed the total average of
students‟ motivation in Cycle 1 was 27.13%, and the total average of students‟
motivation in Cycle 2 was 73.56%. Thus, the improvement of students‟
motivation was 46.43%. It reached the indicator of action success of observation
which was 50%. The questionnaire result showed 81.42% of the students answer
“yes”. It reached the indicator of action success of questionnaire which was 70%.
Overall, the research showed that teaching vocabulary through pantomime could
improve students‟ motivation in learning vocabulary.
