SCADA professionals in the GCC are facing a number of challenges when integrating physicals assets with SCADA and it’s related applications. The combination of data transmission latency coupled with SCADA backdoor cyber vulnerabilities create a huge element of risk for SCADA networks. Companies in the UAE are migrating from traditional ICS / DCS to NCS to drive reliability and scalability across networks thereby optimising operational efficiency.

Integrating SCADA networks and its associated applications also helps enhance virtualisation functionality by enabling users to view production data on devices like smartphones, tablets and computers. However, this also comes with its own set of challenges, including SCADA standardisation and governance rules, as well as security and risks associated with data sharing.

The SCADA Integration Forum 2015 will address important aspects related to integrating legacy SCADA systems with a range of devices and networks as well as address cloud integration with SCADA, thus enabling efficiency in operations by overcoming compatibility issues and address security risks and governance standards.

Event Overview

Workshop B Tuesday, 9 June 2015: 14:10-15:40

Risk, governance and maintenance of cloud based SCADA systems

Cloud based SCADA systems can save companies millions of dollars spent on hardware upgrades and software license renewals. Operational functionality and efficiency can be greatly improved by integrating SCADA with cloud. However this comes with its own set of challenges especially with respect to information security and assurance. At the same time, given the existing gap in SCADA protocol standardisation, integration of SCADA with cloud also may add to the risks posed to SCADA systems. Some of the largest SCADA systems have been compromised in the recent years and yet operations continue without adequate protection.

Attend this workshop to:• Learn to categorise various risks posed to cloud based

SCADA systems and find solutions to each one of them• Build a solid governance strategy that incorporates cloud

with SCADA and not just cloud• Using hybrid architecture models and effective

maintenance techniques to enhance cloud operationality and integration with SCADA

Workshop leader:

Muhammad Sajith, Specialist Infrastructure – IT Services, Emirates Global Aluminium

Muhammad Sajith is the Head of ICT, Infrastructure & Operations at Emirates Global Aluminium (EGAL). Muhammad has 20 years of experience in the IT industry in a variety of roles including system, network designs and implementation, info-security (ISMS) implementations, establishing and operational management of IT support organization in small-medium businesses, multi-nationals and manufacturing industries.
