There isa boost, but don't expect miracles. With that said, give thisa read:

Asyou already knowafterinstallationthe game consitsonly of the doom3.exe and some .PK4 files. Those PK4 filesincludesthe entire game (sounds, videos,texturesetc.)in high compressedform.

Normally those fileswere decompresse during the game.

But thisexactly isthe problem. Even newCPUs are not able to decompressthose fileswhile running the game with good peformance and therfore the game runsvery **** also on newcomputers. Idon't knowif the develpersof

ID-Soft wasjust too stupid tothink about this orif they have an agreement with some hardware manufacturing firms.

Howto get aroundthisproblem:

It isvery simple. Go toyourDoom 3 installation directoy and get inside the folder"Base". There are some .PK4 filesyou have to open each of them with WinRAR 3.3 and extract theirentire contentsto the Base dirinyou Doom 3 installationfolder(replace all filesiftheyare anyduplicates). Nowyouhave to delete all .PK4 filesinthe Base folder toprevent the game touse those compressed filesagain.

Nowthe game startsand runsmuch faster!!!

It supposedly givesa small performance boost and improvessome load times.

Thisis a guarenteedwayto get a MASSIVE performance increase to yourgame, at the expense of taking up a little ore hard drive space (2 gigsapprox).I went from running lowquality at 800x600 to running HighQuality on 1024x768. ThisimprovesloadtimesAND framerate/details.

There isa catch!By doingthis, you temporarily can't connect to pure multiplayerservers. You have been warned (I'll tell you howto revert it at the end)

Afterinstallation, the Doom IIIFolderconsistsonly ofthe doom3.exe and some .PK4 files.Those PK4 filesincludesthe entire game (sounds,videos,texturesetc.) compressed.They are normally uncompressed inmidgame, whichis veryhardon yourCPU. Letsfix this!

1. Make a copy of ALL the filesinC:\Program Files\Doom 3\base. Thisis some big filage, but ifyou want to revert to MP without reinstalling you need to do it.

2. Unrarthe following .pk4 files(just pretend they are .rar'sand open them with winrar)into the C:\Program Files\Doom 3\base folder(each one should unrara single foldersuch as texturesormodels):

pak000.pk4

pak001.pk4

pak002.pk4

pak003.pk4

pak004.pk4 (Thisone hasmanyfiles, put them all in \Base and overright any that apply.

3. Nowdelete the filesabove (pak000-004)ormove them to anotherfolder forstorage so you can revert to multiplayer.

When you want to revert to multiplayer, restore everything you had before and get rid ofthe newstuff. I'm not sure ifthe folder "maps"isthe same or not,so make sure you back that up.

When in normal mode, you should have "maps""savegames""config.spec""doomConfig.cfg""doomkey""game00.pk4"and "gamex86.dll",nothing else. ALSO!Ifyou open DoomConfig.cfg (C:\programfiles\doom3\base)innotepadand change

toa highernumber, suchas 96 or128 you will see a big increase too. Go forit bad boys!"
