KAŠTELA CULTURAL SUMMER Kaštela Cultural Summer is a manifestation which includes numerous theatrical, artistic and dancing performances, exhibitions and other similar cultural events.The City of Kaštela in collaboration with the Tourist Board of Kaštela, different associations, numerous institutions, societies as well as individual artistsand performers organizes various cultural programmes and events. The programmesof Kaštela Cultural Summer are presented and performed at almost every square, street, riva or castle. Year after year, the programme of Kaštela Cultural Summer becomes more and more popular and richer among the citizensof Kaštela as well as with their guests.

TEDI SPALATO OPENS KAŠTELA CULTURAL SUMMERThe white flag with its well-known colourful circles will be raised on 1st July at Brce in Kaštel Stari after the mayor of the city of Kaštela, Ivan Udovičić, pronounces this year’s Cultural Summer in Kaštela opened. The concerts of famous composer-singer Tedi Spalato and successful klapa Kampaneli from Kaštela are of great significance. THE CONTEMPORARY COMEDY RITA’S SCHOOLThe play Rita’s school by Willy Russell is one of the most performed contemporary comedies. It has been adapted for Croatian audience in production of the Zagreb

theatre “Planet Art”.This makes the story of knowledge and education even more interesting and intriguing while it tells us what happens when in community (which doesn’t quite appreciate knowledge) appears a girl who – wants to know everything, wants to understand everything and wants to discover everything.The leading actors are Nataša Janjić Lokas (Rita) and Marko Torjanac (Pravdan). The latter did the translation, adaptation,

scenography and staging as well. The play is scheduled for 20th July at 21:00 at Podvorje in Kaštel Sućurac.

Predstava će se odigrati 20. srpnja, s početkom u 21 sat u Podvorju u Kaštel Sućurcu.

VEČERI DALMATINSKE PISME18. Festival Večeri dalmatinske pisme održat će se 23. i 24. srpnja u Kaštel Kambelovcu.

Prva večer nazvana je Klapska kartolina, klapa Sveti Juraj održat će samostalni koncert povodom petnaest godina njihovog rada. ROCK VEČERIKaštelanske Rock Večeri šesti put za redom održat će se ovog ljeta u organizaciji udruge Trokut mladih Kaštela.

THE NIGHTS OF THEDALMATIAN SONGSThe 18th festival “The nights of the Dalmatian songs” will be held on 23rd and 24th July in Kaštel Kambelovac. The first night is called Klapska kartolina. Klapa Sveti Juraj is going to perform a solo concert celebrating on this occasion the 15th anniversary of their work. They are going to perform together with HRT (Croatian radiotelevision) orchestra conducted by Siniša Leopold.The second night is a song contest called Kaštelanski đir and klapas will, followed by an orchestra, present their new songs in a klapa pop style. 19 compositions have been selected at the competition entry and one composition is out of competition. Following klapas will perform: Adriaticum, Elektrodalmacija (mj), Žrnovnica, Sveti Florijan, Maslina, Condura, Skradinke (ž), Subrenum, Sebenico, Stina, Kampanel, Šufit, Grobnik, Trogirski kanti, Friži, Štorija (ž), Sveti Jeronim, Kontrada, Niko. Klapa Cambi will perform out of competition with a composition called Slijepi putnik.

ROCK NIGHTSThe rock nights of Kaštela will be traditionally organized for the sixth time by the association The triangle of youth Kaštela.This year as well, new bands are going to play next to some of the leading music names in the region. The festival will take place at the beach in Kaštel Lukšić.The first night (Friday, 12th August) is reserved for live acoustic playing and Saturday (13th August) is, now traditionally, reserved for hard rock rhythms.

nucleus of the family and all the values that adorn Croatian identity. The play has won multiple awards. The adaptation and staging were made by Mladenka Gruica who also plays a role of grandma Anđa. The play is scheduled for 1st August at 21:00 at Podvorje in Kaštel Sućurac.

THE STORY OF FAMOUS SINGER BILLIE HOLIDAYThe famous actress and the national drama champion Ksenija Prohaska has a leading role of the singer Billie Holiday.

This interesting biographical story of the blues icon, which contains a lot of songs is a real treat for the audience. It was directed by Arsen A. Ostojić. Alongside Ksenija Prohaska as a leading actress,

Ulaz svim posjetiteljima na obje večeri je besplatan.

Ostojić, a uz Kseniju Prohasku u naslovnoj ulozi se pojavljuje i glumac Robert Kurbaša te pijanist Ivan Božičević.S pričom o Billie Holiday poistovjećuju se mnoge žene, a njezina tragična

sudbina nikoga ne može ostaviti ravnodušnim. Predstava će se odigrati 26.kolovoza s početkom u 21 sat u dvorcu Vitturi.

JELENA RADAN VOYAGEIako je mnogi na prvu povezuju s fadom, portugalskom pjesmom, Jelena je do sada objavila tri studijska albuma na hrvatskom, te dvd/cd fada uživo s koncerta na Peristilu. Proputovala je svojom glazbenom pričom

od mjuzikla na početku, preko festivalskih pozornica, te televizijskih projekata, i njena neuhvatljivost je dijelom postala njen identitet. Ali opet, otkako je izašao njen posljednji album Voyage na portugalskom, hrvatskom, engleskom i francuskom, često nazivan kao „najeuropskiji album“, autora i kolega koje iznimno cijeni, a koji su pisali za nju, kao da je pronašla svoje najugodnije mjesto. Voyage je naziv i njenog koncerta koji ovdje predstavljamo, a koji najbolje izražava njenu ljubav prema jezicima i raznolikim načinima izražavanja uz zvukove kontrabasa Ivana Gazibare, harmonike Miroslava Navračića i violine Emila Gabrića. A kako je svaki koncert svoja priča, uz malo sreće i puno dobrog ugođaja, i publika će biti usisana u njeno glazbeno putovanje, njen Voyage. JELENA RADAN VOYAGE Although many people instantly associate her with fado music, Portuguese music genre, so far Jelena has published as well three albums in Croatian and live fado music DVD/CD of the concert at Peristil. Jelena’s musical journey started with musicals at her very beginnings, across festival stages to various TV projects. Her transitorriness has become a part of her identity. But then again, since her last album Voyage was published in Portuguese, Croatian, English and French, it has often been identified as the “most European” album by authors and colleagues whom she greatly respects and who have written for her. It seems as if she has found her most comfortable spot.Voyage is the name of her concert that will be presented and which expresses in the best way her love towards languages and various ways of expressing oneself with the sounds of contrabass played by Ivan Gazibara, the accordion played by Miroslav Navračić and the violin played by Emil Gabrić. And since every concert is the story for itself, with a little bit of luck and a lot of good atmosphere, the audience should be taken on her journey, her Voyage. The concert is scheduled for 6th August at 21:00 at Podvorje in Kaštel Sućurac.

IBRICA JUSIĆIbrica Jusić, one of our greatest chansonniers, will perform at Brce in Kaštel Stari on 17th August at 21:00. Ibrica is a composer-singer, wanderer and artist with a half century long career in music. His first album was published more than 40 years ago. Ibrica is born and bred Dubrovnik citizen who profesionally and personally matured on the legendary Stradun.

THE LEGEND OF MILJENKO AND DOBRILAThe story of Miljenko and Dobrila is settled in the second half of the 17th century in Kaštel Lukšić where two noble families the Vitturis and Rušinićs lived in their romantic castles. Little Miljenko (Rušinić) and Dobrila (Vitturi) were friends and eventually fell in love. In the meantime, their parents had a terrible fued and decided not to allow their future companionship or marriage. Miljenko and Dobrila eloped and after a sequence of entanglements that only love can produce, their parents gave consent to their marriage in Kaštel Lukšić.The lovers from Kaštela accepted their parents’ will. However, Dobrila’s father, count Radoslav couldn’t actually accept the fact that Miljenko had won and that he was going to take Dobrila as his wife to their new home – a castle of the noble family Rušinić. Engulfed by uncontrollable hatred and vengeance, a night after the wedding of two young lovers in summer of 1690, count Radoslav killed his son-in-law with a firelock

IBRICA JUSIĆJedan od naših najvećih šansonjera, Ibrica Jusić nastupit će na Brcu u Kaštel Starom, 17. kolovoza u 21 sat. Ibrica je kantautor, lutalica i umjetnik s polustoljetnom glazbenom karijerom, čiji je prvi album objavljen prije više od 40 godina. Rođeni Dubrovčanin hercegovačkog porijekla, koji je stasao na čuvenom Stradunu.

LEGENDA O MILJENKU IDOBRILIPriča o Miljenku i Dobrili smještena je u drugu polovicu 17. stoljeća u K. Lukšić gdje su živjele obitelji Vitturi i Rušinić u svojim romantičnim dvorcima. Mali Miljenko (Rušinić) i Dobrila (Vitturi) su bili prijatelji i na kraju se zaljubili. Njihovi roditelji koji su se u međuvremenu posvađali nisu dozvolili njihovo druženje niti vjenčanje, a nakon njihovog bijega i niza zapleta koje samo ljubav može dati, roditelji su pristali na vjenčanje u K. Lukšiću. Kaštelanski ljubavnici su prihvatili roditeljsku ponudu. Međutim, Dobrilin otac, knez Radoslav se nikako nije mogao pomiriti sa činjenicom da je Miljenko ipak pobijedio i da će odvesti njegovu Dobrilu, kao svoju suprugu, u njihov novi dom, dvorac plemićke obitelji Rušinić. Obuzet nesavladivom mržnjom i osvetom, večer nakon vjenčanja dvoje mladih u ljeto 1690. godine, knez Radoslav je na mostu ispred svog dvorca u Kaštel Lukšiću ubio svog zeta iz kubure.

Nekoliko mjeseci nakon nemilog događaja, Dobrila je od silne tuge izgubila razum, razboljela se i umrla. Njezina posljednja želja je bila da je pokopaju kraj Miljenka u crkvici Sv. Ivana na Rušincu koja potječe iz 16. st.. U toj se crkvici danas nalazi nadgrobna ploča na kojoj piše. “Pokoj ljubovnikom”. U Kaštel Lukšiću se osim njihova groba nalazi i izvorni Dobrilin dvorac Vitturi iz XV. – XVI. st., Miljenkov kaštel Rušinić iz XV.st te stara crkva iz 1530.god. u kojoj su vjenčani. Prema ovoj legendi napisani su roman, drama i opera.Svečano otvaranje ovogodišnje manifestacije Legenda o Miljenku i Dobrili održat će se 7. kolovoza s početkom u 21 sat ispred dvorca Vitturi, a niz kulturnih događanja na tu temu odvijat će se sve do 11. kolovoza 2016. g.

METODA ZA BRAKU 70-minutnoj komediji lepršavog humora, prepunoj dobro poznatih situacija iz muško-ženskih odnosa, kod bračne je savjetnice kao gospodin Mikić pomoć potražio popularni Zlatan Zuhrić Zuhra. Zvijezda ‘Večernje škole’ i ‘Zločeste djece’ na užarenom se stolcu „bračne ordinacije“ našao između dvije plavokose vatre, svoje bolje bračne polovice, koju igra talentirana Matea Elezović, i “opasne doktorice”Petre Težak.

Her last wish was to be burried next to Miljenko at Rušinac, in St. John’s chapel from the 16th century. Their tombstone can still be seen in this church, with the inscription: “Lovers, rest in peace”. In Kaštel Lukšić, besides their grave, there still stand the authentic castles of Dobrila (the Vitturi castle, 15th – 16th century) and Miljenko (the Rušinić castle, 15th century) as well as the old church dating from 1530 where the lovers got married. This legend inspired the authors of a novel, a drama and even an opera.The opening ceremony of this year’s manifestation The legend of Miljenko and Dobrila will take place in front of the Vitturi castle on 7th August at 21:00. A sequence of cultural events inspired with the theme of Miljenko and Dobrila will follow up to 11th August 2016.

THE CLOSING CEREMONY OF KAŠTELA CULTURAL SUMMERAfter the period of two months and over 60 various cultural events, the flag of Kaštela cultural summer 2016 will be

lowered ceremonially at the grand concert of klapas. Renowned klapa Cambi will celebrate 30 years of their successful career together with their guests klapas Intrade and Šufit. Grand concert will be held on 28th August at Brce in Kaštel Stari at 20:00.

- Slovenska večer (24. lipnja) odlična je prigoda za uživanje u okusima i mirisima Slovenije. Turističko društvo Notranjska, Društvo Rokodelcev Moravške doline i Društvo Ostrnice predstavit će svoje narodne običaje kroz plesove, glazbu i gastro ponudu.

- Eno gastro Kaštela 2016 (25. lipnja), kaštelanski obrtnici ugostit će predstavnike 15-tak udruženja iz svih hrvatskih regija, koji će ponuditi svoja autohtona jela i proizvode. Kaštelani i njihovi gosti već od 20 sati moći će probati razne delicije, ali i kupiti proizvode naših obrtnika iz raznih krajeva Hrvatske. Večer obrtnika imat će i svoj zabavni dio. Zajedno proslavimo Dan državnosti!

- Revija tradicijskih nošnji i obrtništva Nostalgija (26. lipnja), sudionici će predstaviti unikatne modne kreacije, kao spoj tradicije i vrhunske mode poznatih i priznatih kreatora, koji i sada izrađuju tradicijske nošnje, ali i onih koji rade modernu odjeću vezujući je uz tradicijske motive, što je sada apsolutni modni trend.

- Eno-gastro Kaštela 2016 (25th June), the craftsmen of Kaštela will be the hosts for 15 or more representatives of various associations from all the Croatian regions. They will present their authentic food and products. The people of Kaštela and their guests will have the opportunity to try various delicacies and buy the products of local craftsmen from different parts of Croatia. This fair opens at 20:00. The craftsmen’s night is going to have its entertaining part as well. Let’s celebrate Croatian Statehood Day together!

- Fashion show of traditional folk costumes and traditional crafts show Nostalgija (26th June) – the participants will present unique fashion creations as a combination of tradition and top fashion by famous and renowned fashion designers who still even nowadays create traditional folk costumes, as well as those who create fashionable clothes linking them to traditional motifs. Fashionable clothes with traditional motifs have recently become an absolute fashion trend.

MuzejSjedište Muzeja grada Kaštela nalazi se u jednoj od najbolje očuvanih kaštelanskih utvrda-kaštelu Vitturi. Kaštela su drugi grad po broju stanovnika u Splitsko-dalmatinskoj županiji, sa sedam naselja razmještenih duž obale Kaštelanskog zaljeva. Svako naselje nastalo je tijekom razdoblja turske opasnosti, kada su plemstvo i Crkva iz okolnih gradova Splita i Trogira, podiglisvoje kaštele u svrhu zaštite stanovništva od turskih napada. Osim novovjekih povijesnih jezgri, na kaštelanskom prostoru postoji niz arheoloških lokaliteta iz prapovijesnog, antičkog i srednjovjekovnog razdoblja.

Muzej grada Kaštela osnovan je 1999. god., a nastao je preustrojem Zavičajnog muzeja Kaštela, koji je izrastao iz rada galerije Studin (osnovane 1988. godine).

Bogatstvo kulturne baštine kaštelanskog prostora ogleda se i u radu muzeja, koji prikupljajući i prezentirajući građu doprinosi očuvanju kulturne baštine ovog prostora.

MuseumThe seat of the Municipal Museum of Kaštela is located in one of the best-preserved fortresses in Kaštela – Vitturi Castle. Kaštela are the second city by population in Split-Dalmatia County, comprised of seven villages spreading along the coast of the Kaštela Bay. Each village originated during the period of the Ottoman threat, when the nobility and the Church from the surrounding cities of Split and Trogir built their castles to protect the population against the Ottoman attacks. Apart from the Modern era historical cores, there is a whole range of archaeological sites dated to prehistoric times, Classical Antiquity and Middle Ages within the area of Kaštela.

The Municipal Museum of Kaštela was founded in 1999, through restructuring of the Regional Museum of Kaštela, which had originated from the Studin Gallery (founded in 1988). The richness of the cultural heritage of the Kaštela area is reflected in the work of the museum, which contributes to preservation of cultural heritage of this area by gathering and representing the material. There are Archaeological, Cultural-historical, Modern and Contemporary Art, Pedagogical, Documentation, as well as Restoration and Conservation departments operating within the Museum. The permanent exhibition of the museum is located in the Vitturi Castle in Kaštel Lukšić, and in 2012, a permanent exhibition was opened at the Archbishop’s castle in Kaštel Sućurac. The museum takes care of two archaeological sites: the remains of an ancient settlement of Siculi at Resnik and Mujina cave in Labinska draga.

Unutar muzeja djeluje arheološki, kulturno-povijesni, odjel moderne i suvremene umjetnosti, pedagoški, dokumentacijski i restauratorski odjel. Stalni postav muzeja smješten je u dvorcu (kaštelu) Vitturi u Kaštel Lukšiću., a od 2012. god. otvoren je i postav u nadbiskupskom kaštelu u Kaštel Sućurcu. Muzej brine i o dva arheološka nalazišta: ostacima antičkog naselja Sikuli u Resniku i o Mujinoj pećini u Labinskoj dragi.

Kaštel Vitturi u Kaštel LukšićuSam kaštel sa okolnom povijesnom jezgrom dobro je očuvan, a obnovom u razdoblju od 1993. do 2001. god., vraćen mu je izgled s početka 18. Stoljeća.Tada je bio u svojoj najreprezentativnijoj fazi i danas predstavlja kulturni centar Grada Kaštela. Tijekom istražnih radova ponovno je otkriven obrambeni jarak ikameni most ispred sjevernog ulaza.Kaštel je izgradila plemićka obitelj Vitturi, krajem 15. i tijekom prve polovice 16. st. Uslijed čestih turskih napada bilo je nužno zaštititi domaće stanovništvo, koje je do izgradnje kaštela živjelo u srednjovjekovnom selu Ostrog napadinama Kozjaka.Uz kaštel je formirano manje utvrđeno naselje sa do danas sačuvanom pučkom kamenom arhitekturom i organizacijom prostora.

Vitturi Castle in Kaštel LukšićThe castle itself with its surrounding historical core is well preserved, and in the period between the year of 1993 and 2001, its appearance from the beginning of the 18th century has been restored. The castle was in its most representative stage in that period. During the research works, defensive moat and a stone bridge in front of the northern entrance were rediscovered. The Castle was built by the noble family Vitturi, at the end of the 15th and the

beginning of the 16th century. Due to frequent Ottoman attacks, it was necessary to protect the local population, which had been living in the medieval village of Ostrog at the slopes of the Kozjak Mountain before the construction of the Castle. Along with the castle, a small, fortified settlement was also formed, and its folk stone architecture and space organization has been preserved till this day.

U kulturno-povijesnom dijelu prezentiran je razvoj pojedinih kaštela i urbanizam kaštelanskih naselja, kao i prikaz obrane od Turaka sa zbirkom oružja. U odvojenom dijelu prikazan je život plemenitaških kaštelanskih obitelji i kaštelanska narodna nošnja.

U arheološkom dijelu stalnog postava prezentirani su vrijedni arheološki nalazi iz prapovijesnog, antičkog i srednjovjekovnog razdoblja. Posebno su zanimljivi litički artefakti musterijenske kulture pronađeni u Mujinoj pećini (45000-39000 god. pr. Kr.), brojni nalazi iz antičkog naseljaSikuli i grobni prilozi iz starohrvatskih nekropola.

Nadbiskupski kaštel u Kaštel SućurcuPovijesna jezgra Kaštel Sućurca formira

se krajem 15. st. oko kule koju je 1392. podigao splitski nadbiskup Andrija Benzi na predjelu zvanom Lučac. Permanent museum displayThe permanent museum display is located at the second floor of the Castle Vitturi, and it was opened in 2008. The display is comprised of two parts: cultural-historical (southern wing) and archaeological (eastern wing), with a total amount of 679 exhibits. Between those two parts, there is a gallery with a lapidarium. Since 2013, the sculptures of Marin Studin, a famous sculptor from Kaštela, have also been exhibited in the northern wing. Development of the individual castles and urbanism of the Kaštela villages, as well as the representation of defence against the Ottomans through the weapon collection, are shown in the cultural-historical part. The life of the noble families of Kaštela, as well as folk costumes, is represented in a separate part.

Within the archaeological part of the permanent exhibition, there are valuable archaeological finds dated to Prehistory, Classical Antiquity and the Middle Ages. Lithic artefacts of the Mousterian culture discovered in Mujina cave (45000-39000 BC) are of a special interest, as well as the numerous finds from the ancient settlement of Siculi and the sepulchral contributions from the Early Croatian necropolae.

today, the Archbishop of Split Bartolomeo Averoldo constructed a defensive complex Kaštilac in which the Archiepiscopal Palace was the central part. Entire Kaštilac was well fortified with a wall, and its battlements have been partially preserved. On the second floor of the Archiepiscopal Palace, there are museum premises with rich cultural-historical and archaeological collections. Since 2012, the archaeological department of the Museum has been located here.

Towards the permanent displayThe exhibition entitled “Towards thepermanent display” has been organized on the second floor of the Archiepiscopal Palace. It is comprised of two parts: cultural-historical and archaeological, with 128 exhibits. The exhibited material depicts the wealth of the movable cultural heritage of Kaštel Sućurac. The largest part of the material originates from the collection of the association Podvorje, which was in charge of its maintenance up until 2012. Part of the exhibited archaeological material has been discovered during the excavations of the employees of the archaeological department of the Municipal Museum of Kaštela (Krtine, Brižine and Trstenik) and of the Museum of Croatian Archaeological Monuments (Putalj). Among the exhibits, the finds from the Bronze Age hillfort at Putalj and early-Romanesque arch of the altar partition (a so called Arch from Sućurac) are especially noticeable.

od srebra, knjige i slike. To su često uvezeni radovi venecijanske provenijencije i austrijskih zlatara te domaćih majstora iz Splita, Trogira i Kaštela. Navede predmete su nabavljale su bratovštine i darivali pojedinci.

Mujina pećinaTragovi prisutnosti neandertalca na ovom prostoru sačuvani su u Mujinoj pećini. Smještena je u sačuvanom prirodnom krškom okolišu Labinske drage, koja je kroz prošlost bila važna komunikacija prema zaleđu. Sa manjeg platoa ispred pećine moguća je dobra kontrola okolnog prostora, što je pračovjeku bilo važno zbog mogućnosti ranog zapažanja krda životinja koje su tada nastanjivale ovaj

Treasury of the parish church in Kaštel ŠtafilićMovable parts of the ecclesiastical heritage of the Parish Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary are exhibited in the Treasury. Votive gifts (so called Our Lady’s gold), filigree handmade jewellery, as well as modest but valuable liturgical objects made of silver, books and paintings are exhibited next to the painting of Our Lady. In most part, these are the imported works of the Venetian provenance and of Austrian jewellers, as well as of local artisans from Split, Trogir and Kaštela. These items were acquired and donated by confraternities and individuals.

Mujina caveMujina cave holds traces of presence of the Neanderthal men in this area. It is located within the karst environment around Labinska draga, which historically served as an important communication route with the hinterlands. For that reason, several archeological sites from different periods can be found here. In the approximate vicinity of the cave, there are also the remains of the Roman road wich connected Siculi with the hinterlands.

The cave is of small dimensions with a big entrance facing the south-east. Small plateau in front of the entrance enables good control of the surrounding area, which was important to praehistoric men because it helped them notice the animal heards that used to inhabit this area. Systematic archaeological research within the cave has encovered rich layers of Mousterian culture dated to the period from 45000 to

39000 BC. Within the 2 metres deep layers, various lithic artefacts and animal bones have were discovered. They testify about the activities performed by the neanderthals within the cave, and numerous animal bons tell us about their diet. While the cave was being used, the climate was significantly colder and sea level about 90 metres lower.

Classical Antiquity settlement of SiculiThe remains of the Classical Antiquity settlement of Siculi are located in Resnik, next to Kaštel Štafilić, at the mouth of the eponymous creek. It has been mentioned in numerous historical sources, and the Roman Emperor Claudius settled his military veterans here in the mid-1st century BC. During many years of archaeological research, it has been established that this settlement spread over the area of 36.000 m² and that it was founded in the 2nd century BC. At this time, the surroundings of the Kaštela Bay were the stage for very dynamic events related to Greeks from Issa, Romans and Delmatae. Apart from the remains of the evenly organized residential blocks and streets, a smaller part of the fortification walls and underwater docks that are today submerged into the sea have also been preserved. It is assumed that the layout was rectangular, with a surface of 3.6 ha. Residential blocks were extremely long, around 13 metres wide. The settlement was destroyed during the second half of the 1st century BC, as evidenced by the remains of the collapsed roof structures and soot found in most of the researched houses. Apart from the ancient docks, the remains of a Palaeolithic site and Neolithic settlement are also located underwater, in front of the mouth of the creek.

U vrijeme korištenja pećine klima je bila znatno hladnija, a razina mora oko 90 metara niža.

Antički SikuliOstaci antičkog naselja Sikuli nalaze se u Resniku pored Kaštel Štafilića, uz ušće istoimenog potoka. Ono se spominje u brojnim povijesnim izvorima, a rimski car Klaudije ovdje je naselio vojne veterane polovicom 1. st. pr. Kr. Dugogodišnjim arheološkim istraživanjima utvrđeno je da se naselje prostire na površini od oko 36 000 m2 i da je osnovano u 2. st. pr. Kr. Osim ostataka pravilno organiziranih stambenih blokova i ulica, sačuvani je manji dio bedema i danas potopljena podmorska pristaništa. Osim antičkih pristaništa, u podmorju ispred ušća potoka nalaze se ostaci paleolitičkog nalazišta i neolitičkog naselja.

BiranjBiranj je slojevito arheološko nalazište na istaknutom kozjačkom vrhuncu (631 m) iznad Kaštela. Ovdje se nalazi prapovijesno gradinsko utvrđenje, kasnoantički kastrum, svetište vrhunskog slavenskog božanstva Peruna i romanička crkva Sv. Ivana. Vanjski bedem prapovijesne gradine dugačak je gotovo 800 metara i lučno zatvara površinu od gotovo 73 000 m2, što lokalitet svrstava u red površinom najvećih gradinskih utvrđenja na istočnoj jadranskoj obali i zaleđu. Bedemi su suhozidni, a osipina je na pojedinim mjestima i do 12 metara široka. Arheološka istraživanja otkrila su kulturne slojeve iz neolitika i brončanog doba, sa razvijenom litičkom industrijom.

BiranjBiranj is a stratified archeological site located at a prominent peak of Mount Kozjak (631 m) above Kaštela. A praehistoric hillfort, late Classical Antiquity Castrum, the sanctuary of the supreme Slavic god Perun and the Romanesque church of Sv. John are located here. The outer bastion of this prehistoric hillfort is almost 800 meters long and encloses the area of nearly 73.000 m2, which makes it one of the largest hillforts on the eastern Adriatic coast and in the hinterland. The bastion is made of dry wall and is at some parts up to 12 metres wide. Archaeological research has revealed cultular layers dated to Neolithic and Bronze Age, with a well developed lithic industry.
