  • Important Information Capabilities Your systems capabilities will vary depending on your specific configuration and application. Recording times are dependent upon how many cameras are being recorded, the resolution that video is recorded at, the frame rate that video is recorded at, whether or not audio is being recorded, whether motion detect or around the clock recording is used, and the frequency of motion (if video is recorded with the motion detect option). As you can see many different variables work together to determine how long you will be able to record and any recording times given are an approximation using the default settings. It is recommended that during your first month you check your recordings frequently to determine how far back you are able to retrieve video. Once you notice that your first day is no longer listed in the recordings make a note of how many days are available. This is approximately how long your system will record with the current settings. Recording resolution is set to high by default but may be a lowered to achieve longer recording times. Note: Resolution may be set individually for each camera. This affects only the recording resolution, not live video. Accounts Your surveillance system is pre-configured with one user account and one supervisor account. Local is the default user account and will enable you to put your system in lockout mode to prevent accidental and deliberate tampering. It is highly recommended that you leave the system logged in as local whenever you do not need supervisor rights. Manager is the default supervisor account and has no restrictions. It is not necessary to change the password for Local because it is a restricted account; however we highly recommend that you change the manager account password. You may also wish to add additional accounts to allow customers or employees to have restricted remote access to the cameras. For quick reference your default account login information is listed below. Passwords are case-sensitive but User ID’s are not. User ID: local User ID: manager Password: local Password: changeme Type: User Type: Administrator

  • Networks In order to use the remote viewing feature your router must be configured to forward the designated ports to the surveillance system. Your technician will configure your router for you and install one if needed. If any passwords have been set in the router, the technician will need them to configure it. If at any time your router is replaced or reset to factory settings it will have to be reconfigured before you will be able to view the cameras remotely. When viewing your cameras remotely from the within the same network we recommend that you use the local IP address of the DVR instead of the internet address. This provides a much faster connection and better performance. Your installer should record these addresses for you below upon installation, along with all ports needed by your router. Local IP: Internet Address: TCP Ports: 80 / 81 / 82, 3550, 4550, 5550, 6550, 7500, 7600, 7700, 7800 Additional Ports: , , , Maintenance All internal maintenance must be performed by an authorized Sentry representative; you should never remove the cover on your DVR. The DVR should be positioned so that it has at least a 2” clearance on all sides to allow adequate airflow. All fans and side vents should be checked regularly and cleaned with compressed air anytime dust build-up is evident or at least once a month. Dust build-up reduces airflow and can cause your system to overheat and potentially fail.

  • Live Mode Controls There are two live view options; console view and fullscreen view. Fullscreen view may be entered while logged in as local but a supervisor account must be used in order to exit fullscreen mode. This prevents the system from being used without a supervisor password. Exit Fullscreen Mode

    1. If already logged in as a supervisor skip to step 3. Otherwise press the L key or right-click anywhere on the camera views and select “Login/Change User” from the pop-up menu to bring up the login prompt.

  • 2. Enter a Supervisor ID and Password at the login prompt (passwords are case-sensitive) and click OK. There may be a brief flash indicating that login was successful.

    3. Press F or right click anywhere on the camera views and select “Toggle

Fullscreen” from the pop-up menu and the system console will appear.

    4. Return to Fullscreen by repeating step 3.

  • Change Camera Views

    1. Select the desired screen division by clicking the corresponding camera division button.

    2. Below the camera views in console mode there are buttons numbered 1-16. Click

on any one of these to select the associated camera. Cameras may also be selected by clicking directly on the camera picture. Click the picture again or press the esc key to return to the previous screen division.

    Recording

    1. Click the REC (Monitor) button and select “Start All Monitoring” to start recording on all cameras or select individual cameras and place a check mark next to them to start recording only on selected cameras.

    2. Click the REC button and select “Stop All Monitoring” to stop recording on all cameras or select individual cameras and remove the check mark next to them to stop recording only on selected cameras.

  • Playback Mode Reviewing Recorded Video

    1. Click on the Viewlog button (with the magnifying glass on it) and select Video/Audio Log from the popup menu.

    2. First select the camera that you want to review using the pull down list in the top

right corner of the videolog. Next select the appropriate date followed by the time (Time is listed in military time).

    3. Video Events are broken up into 5 minute or less increments in order to speed the

process of finding an event. Selecting an event will display a preview of that event. This feature allows incidents to be pinpointed without having to sit through lengthy video playback. Hold down the shift key on the keyboard while selecting a begin and an end time to select multiple events.

  • 4. Click the play button to play back all highlighted video. Playback speed may be

adjusted by the up and down arrows. Zoom in/out by selecting either the + or – button and then click on the area of the picture to zoom in on.

    5. To view playback on multiple cameras change the view mode to either Quad

View or MultiView using the View Mode button. When using these views blue screens will show for periods in which no video was recorded on a camera (no motion).

  • Backing Up Recorded Video From the Video Log

Tip: Right-click on an event and select Mark As Never Recycle from the popup menu to prevent video from being erased. This will allow time to review it or to create a backup. Repeat the process once the video is no longer needed and select Unmark As Never Recycle to allow the space to be used for recording new video.

    1. Click the Tools button (gear and wrench) and select Backup.

    2. Choose to backup to the Hard Disk or a CD/DVD. When backing up to the hard disk use drive S: (SavedVideo) which is dedicated to video backups. Enter a Backup Folder Name that will easily identify the video it contains. When backing up to CD/DVD simply select Using CD/DVD option. Click Add Schedule.

  • 3. Place a checkmark next to Database Files and next to each camera to be backed

up. Click OK to close the window.

  • 4. Click OK again to start backup. Hard disk backup will begin immediately.

CD/DVD backup will open Nero (Click OK when prompted to paste files). 5. Select Make Data CD or Make Data DVD under Favorites (Star) according to the

type of blank disc used for backup.

  • 6. Right-Click the white portion of the Nero window and select Paste.

    7. Files to be burned will be displayed in the window. The bar at the bottom shows

how much space is used. The red line indicates the capacity of the selected media type. If the CD capacity is exceeded try using a DVD instead. If the DVD capacity is exceeded try backing up in smaller increments.

    Click Next.

  • 8. Disc name may be changed (This is optional). Select the number of copies and click Burn.

  • 9. Once burning has finished click Next and Exit on the following screens. 10. To close the VideoLog click on the power button in the bottom left corner and

select Exit from the popup menu.

    11. Click on the “Power” button in the bottom left corner of the console and select

Minimize from the popup menu (This option is only available when logged in under an administrator account).

  • Remote Access Remote Viewing There are two options for viewing live video remotely; web based viewing using Microsoft Internet Explorer and Remote Viewing Software. Using Internet Explorer allows cameras to be accessed from any computer with a high speed internet connection. The Remote Viewing Software provides smoother video feeds but has limited control capabilities and does not support audio feeds. It must also be installed on a computer from a CD before it can be used to view camera feeds. Important Notes: The only web browser supported for remote viewing is Internet Explorer. Other browsers such as AOL or Netscape are not supported and may not work. Windows 2000 or Windows XP is required to use Multiview. Windows ME and Windows 98 users will only be able to view up to 2 cameras at a time and will not have audio support. Macintosh computers are not supported but may be able to view cameras using the Windows 98 method. Dial-up users must use the Remote Viewer Software. Connecting Using Internet Explorer

    1. Open Internet Explorer and type the internet address given by the installer into the address bar.

    2. Select View Live Video from Feature Selection menu and click submit.

  • 3. If an information bar appears at the top of the browser click on the bar and then click on Install ActiveX Control in the popup menu, otherwise go to step 6.

    4. If a security warning box appears click the Install button.

Note: If the Install button is not available see Configuring Security Settings below. 5. Steps 4 and 5 may need to be repeated until you receive a login prompt. 6. Enter a username and password in the appropriate boxes and click OK.

  • Configuring Security Settings 1. Select Internet Options from the Tools menu at the top of your browser window.

    2. Click on the Security Tab at the top of the window that appears and then click on

the Custom Level button towards the bottom of the window.

    3. Scroll down to “Download Unsigned ActiveX Controls” and set it to prompt.

  • 4. Click OK until you are back to the main browser window. Return to step 9.

  • Note: Your resolution must be set to at least 1024x768 in Windows. This may be changed by opening Control Panel in Windows, clicking Display, selecting the Settings tab, and moving the Screen Resolution bar to at least 1024x768. Click OK to close the window. Your screen resolution will be changed and you will be asked if you want to keep these settings. If there are no problems with the screen resolution click OK to keep these settings, otherwise do not click anything or press any buttons and your resolution will revert to the previous settings within 20 seconds.

  • Using MultiView

Once MultiView has loaded, the cameras will come up one at a time until all of the cameras have loaded. Loading time will vary depending on your connection speed and the connection speed at the DVR, the number of cameras, and the number of other users currently logged onto the system. 1. The camera layout may be changed by dragging a camera to the desired position.

Individual cameras may be selected by double-clicking on the desired camera view; this will put the selected camera in fullscreen mode. Cameras may also be viewed in a 16 division fullscreen by clicking the Fullscreen button. Exit fullscreen mode by clicking on the screen again or by pressing the esc key on the keyboard.

    2. MultiView defaults to a 4 camera division. Screen division may be changed by selecting the 4, 8, or 16 division buttons in the lower left corner of the screen. The default screen division may be changed by clicking the configure button (Hammer & Screwdriver) to open the configuration menu, and selecting the appropriate screen division.

  • 3. Click the speaker button to listen to live audio. The camera associated with the

microphone must be selected before audio can be activated. (Note: Audio is not available on all units.)

    4. The cameras can be set to rotate through each individual camera by clicking on

the video polling button (circular arrow). Polling interval may be changed in the configuration menu.

  • 5. Still images may be captured using the Capture button. A pop-up screen will appear showing the captured image with options to Save, Print, or Cancel.

    6. Images may be zoomed in and out using the + and – magnifying glass buttons. 7. Only one instance of MultiView may be open at a time. If it is necessary to

monitor more than one DVR simultaneously, the necessary addresses must be added to MultiView. To add an address click the Edit Hosts button.

  • 8. Click New and enter a descriptive Host Name, the IP Address, and Login information for each DVR. In most cases the default port numbers are correct. If using a nonstandard port a :81 must be added to the end of the web address (change the HTTP port accordingly). In most cases the HTTP port is the only one that will change. However, if multiple DVR’s are installed in the same location one of them must change all of their port numbers. Usually in this case all port numbers are increased by 1 (i.e. 81, 4551, 5551, 6551).

    9. Change DVR’s simply by clicking the Host Name on the right hand side of the

screen. 10. To simultaneously view multiple DVR’s using a custom arrangement click New

and select Multiple Host on the Edit Hosts screen. Select a descriptive Host Name and an optional password (entered before the multiple host view may be viewed).

  • 11. Click the first Edit button. Enter the IP or Web Address of the DVR, User Name,

Password, and Camera Number of the camera to associate with this video slot. Click OK when finished. Repeat this step for each video slot until all necessary slots up to 16 have been filled.

    12. Exit or minimize Multiview by clicking the X in the bottom left corner and

    selecting the appropriate menu option.

  • Using the Basic Viewer

    1. Select Basic Viewer from the Feature Selection Menu. 2. Enter Username and Password and click submit.
