Welcome to the Junior Learning Space
for 2018 It’s an exciting time in the Junior Learning Space with many
new students and families joining the Mount Waverly North
Primary School community. Also joining the Junior Team are
the teachers. This year the Junior Team is Miss Emily Clugg,
Miss Megan Corcoran and Mr. Tristan Harper. We are looking
forward to a great year in working with the many students
and families of Junior.
We have started this year with a focus on the values and
motto of MWNPS and how the students live these in their
daily life. Each class also contributed ideas to the creation of
a set of ‘Junior Norms’ that focus on how all people in the
Junior Space conduct themselves.
The Learning Space this year features some new technology
in the form of SMART boards that will provide and allow for
many new learning experiences and ways for the students to
demonstrate their knowledge. These coupled with the iPads
and Digital Technologies sessions will continue to build the
students’ digital literacy.
If you have not yet been into the Junior Space or met your
child’s teacher, please come in and see us and say hello.

The students are currently developing an understanding of the place value system and how numbers are written, physically represented and created. They undertake numeracy games, logic and problem solving activities as well as explicit teaching sessions throughout the week. Students are always encouraged to demon-strate their numeracy skills and understandings through various methods including the use of technology. In the later weeks of the term geometry, measurement and data will also form part of the mathematics curriculum.
Inquiry
Students participate in Inquiry rotations throughout the week
where they see the different teachers of the Junior Level.

objects and their properties will be the main area of study

Parent Helpers
We love having parent helpers in the Junior Space for all sorts of support from maths and literacy classes, to helping to organise readers or even as guest speakers if you have knowledge about a key area of our curriculum.
If you have a current Working With Children’s Check and can spare some time we would love to have your assistance. There is a parent helper induction session happening on Wednesday the 21st of February just after morning drop off (9am) for all those involved. Please book into this at the oFfice.
Contacting the teachers
In the last MWNPS newsletter, the email contacts for
the teachers were published for your information.
We can also organise a meeting before or after
school if there is something that you wish to discuss.
However morning drop off time while students are
beginning their morning routines is not a suitable
time for lengthy discussions.

P.E is back & so is MR KLEIN!
To begin I wanted to thank the entire school commu-nity for welcoming me back after my time away!
Everyone has been so warm and friendly which is a credit to what a great community we have here at Mount Waverley North Primary School.
I am very excited to be working with the students not only with their Physi-cal Education classes this year but also with their Health lessons.
The students will be learn-ing a range of new skills, tactics, games, sports & health related items this year with a focus on team-work, inclusion & most importantly FUN!
Lets have another fantastic year in P.E. & Health in 2018!
Thanks - MR KLEIN
Each week students participate in the Arts, Physical Education and German specialists.
Students will receive a timetable for their diary of what days they have specialist classes
on. Students are permitted to wear their MWNPS Sports Polo top on days when they have
sports sessions.
In Term 1, students will be focusing on the topic of birthdays. They will use the language to tell someone how old they are, and when their birthday is. They will also learn the German words for items relating to birthday parties, and will help to plan a birthday party for Franzi, one of our German puppets. Students will not only engage with the language through reading and writing, but also by playing games and singing songs.
Visual Arts
In Term 1, the Junior students
will be drawing images and
making objects related to self,
others and their personal
environment in different forms
such as: painting and sculpture.
They will be looking a variety of
artworks and offer a range of
interpretations of the subject
matter. They will learn to follow
the technical process and safe
practices of making specific
artwork such as: printmaking
and constructing sculptures.
They will also be comparing the
qualities and properties of
materials such as: paint,
crayons and clay. Finally, they
will identify and use visual
conventions of artwork from
the Indigenous and Torres Strait
Islander peoples and discuss
things like: subject matter,
style, techniques used and how
the artwork makes you think
and feel.
