IMPORTANT DATES THIS

MONTH

Dear NDA Families,

This last month has been full of blessings at NDA, with many more to come.

The NDA Musical was a rousing success, with our girls performing in five shows over two weekends. We were even able to invite alumnae from near and far for a sneak peak of the musical before the first show—what a fun night for all! Our sports teams continue to amaze me with their incredible talent as they travel to competitions near and far. Win or lose, these girls give it their all, and I am so proud of everything they accomplish both on and off the field.

Yesterday, we welcomed many guests to Notre Dame Academy during our annual Open House. Our students, faculty, staff, families, and alumnae all do such an amazing job of sharing the spirit of Notre Dame with those who come through our doors.

I look forward to welcoming you, our wonderful parents and guardians, to NDA for Parent/Teacher Conferences on Thursday, November 9th. Thank you for sharing your daughters with us and supporting the academic mission of Notre Dame Academy.

Blessings,

Our wonderful NDA volunteers continue to generously share their time and talent with us to help make our events a success. We are grateful to those of you who served NDA over the past several weeks in the following ways: • sent in Bake Sale treats, • planned the 7th/8th grade Bon’d Fire, • helped plan, organize, and/or worked at the Father/Daughter Dance Boo Bash, • volunteered at NDA Open House.

We value your involvement and could not accomplish all that we do without your help and support. Thank you!!

Appalachia Christmas Service Project 2017

It’s hard to believe that it’s time to start thinking about our Annual Appalachia Christmas Service Project!

The 2017 service project will roll out during homeroom the week of November 13th. Each student will receive two gift tags and each family is asked to donate at least two new gifts to the people of Harlan, Kentucky. Each student will also receive detailed instructions that help the donation process run smoothly. Each year, we deliver over 1300 new gifts to the people of Harlan, so your generosity is greatly appreciated! 7 & 8th grade students will receive gift tags for the Appalachia-at-Home service project, while students in grades 9 – 12 will be asked to donate gifts for the Christmas party in Harlan.

In addition to the collection of new items, due to a generous donation of a semi-truck to transport items to Harlan, we are able to collect gently used children’s toys, stuffed animals, school supplies and children’s books for the Toy Store. We can also collect gently worn winter coats, boots, gloves, hats, etc. No other clothing items please.

Applications for those interested in going on the Appalachia Service Trip from December 15 – 17, 2017 will be available on Tuesday, October 31st. Due to the overwhelming number of applications we receive each year, and after conversations with the administration at NDA, we have made the decision to limit the trip to Harlan to seniors and juniors only. NDA students in grades 7 – 12 will be able to apply (applications available in November) for the Appalachia-at-Home service project at Queen of Apostles School in Toledo that is held on December 16, 2017. The Christmas party at Queen of Apostles is very similar to the experience in Harlan.

More information will be coming soon, and thank you in advance for your generosity! ~Mrs. Faye Smith

Dine & Do's are hosted during lunch on the NDA campus four times a year. A Dine & Do is when NDA welcomes professionals from throughout the community to speak about career trends, educational advice, training, compensation, and occupational forecasts while sharing their own personal journeys. If you are interested in sharing your story with us or would like to present, please contact the Career Counselor at [email protected].

In October, NDA welcomed a team of professional make-up artists, hair stylists and fashion specialists from TIGI who discussed fall fashion, hair and make-up tips and career opportunities. Over 70 students attended and were treated to pizza.

Dear faculty, students and families of NDA,

As many of you are probably aware, I was in a life altering car accident last year, October 26, 2016. Ellie, who is a junior this year, came to the hospital at approximately 1:30 am because I was not expected to live through the night. She insisted on going to school that day, so she could have the students, faculty and families pray for my recovery. Dozens and dozens of times last year, and even this year, the community of NDA has asked Ellie how I am doing and continued to offer prayer and words of encouragement to her.

The community of students, families and faculty brought meals to our home two times a week until the end of March. How those meals blessed our family!!! We live in Delta, Ohio. The Torres family in Wauseon, Ohio and the Nijakowski family of Swanton, Ohio provided rides to Ellie so she could get to and from school. We will be forever grateful for all the kindness the community of NDA has showed our family!! Thank you all for the continued prayers, support and concern you have showed Ellie and our entire family!! God Bless you!!

Sincerely,

Lisa, Scott, Ellie and Maggie Sugg

Thank You from the Sugg Family

Giving Tuesday #Give2NDAEmpowered Girls Become Impactful Women

On Tuesday, November 28, charities and organizations around the world will come together for one common purpose: to celebrate generosity and to give. #GivingTuesday is a national movement celebrating generosity and to kick-off the season of giving. After the hustle and bustle of Thanksgiving, Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday, Giving Tuesday is a way to give back financially to organizations that mean the world to you.

We need your help! Our goal is to raise $50,000 to support the 625 girls at NDA. Save the date and check your inbox and encourage your friends, family and coworkers to #Give2NDA on #GivingTuesday, 11/28/2017.

Dear NDA Parents,

On Friday, December 1, PANDA will be hosting its annual appreciation luncheon for the Faculty and Staff of Notre Dame Academy. In addition to a nice meal, we would like to give each person a gift. We need your help and generosity to make this possible.

We are collecting gift cards worth $10 each so that we can give each teacher at least 3-4 gift cards. Please only send $10 gift cards as this makes it easier for us. We would be thrilled to receive at least one gift card from each student, but if you want to send more than that it would be much appreciated. If you prefer, you can write a check and we can purchase the gift cards for you. Please make the check payable to Notre Dame Academy.

We ask that you put your donation in an envelope marked "Faculty Christmas Luncheon Donation" and submit to the school office no later than November 15th.

This is an easy way to thank our teachers for all they do for our daughters. Thank you for your generosity.

Any questions please contact Sue Dziubek at [email protected].

Some specific trip details will be shared with the students closer to the date of departure. Please look for an e-mail for this information. Here are some frequently asked questions and answers:

November 19-21 marks our 8th grade trip to Chicago.

1. Parents are going to have an opportunity to send in snacks and water for the girls to have with them on the bus ride. Please see information from Mrs. Kraus, which lists the items needed and when/where to place the items.

2. All final payments must be made soon. Please contact the Business Office if you would like to make a payment. Also, balances from the Yankee fund drive will be shared with you.

3. There will be a specified list provided to the girls (and sent to the parents) for all final details in November, but some helpful answers to frequently asked questions which might help you with planning include:

Q: How much cash should my daughter have with her for trip? A: $125

Q: What should my daughter pack to wear? A: Jeans (for the city) • Khakis or black pants (for the show) • Sweats (for the bus) • Sweaters/Spirit wear/long sleeve shirts • Boots/tennis shoes (anything comfortable for walking) • A change of shoes in case one pair gets wet • Winter or Fall Coat/HATS
