Workshop PresentationWorkshop PresentationActive learning is a method of

learning in which students are activelyinvolved in the learning process. It is amodel of instruction that focuses theresponsibility of learning on learners.Active Learning, as a new approach ofteaching, can be used to implementresponsible science within youngreserchers. Responsible science is apractice of scientific investigation withintegrity. It involves the awareness andapplication of established professionalnorms and ethical principles in theperformance of all activities related toscientific research.

The over all learning goals of thisworkshop is the use of active learningmethods to apreciate researchmisconduct from the laboratory to thescientific publication, and to understandwhat is responsible authorship and dualuse.

During this two days workshop,differents issues will be covered, with theuse of case studies, group work,processing scenarios, discussions andsynthesis. Also the formative andsummative assessment will be used toimprove student understanding andskills.

SESSION 5/Responsible AuthorshipBy Mohamed AZEQOUR

Participants will be able to:

• Understand the concept of «Authorship» ;

• Identify the interest of publishing;

• How is the author? Why?

the four criterias recommended by the International Committee of Medical

Journal Editors (ICMJE) (August 2013) to be an author

SESSION 6/Dual use controversyBy Laila SBABOU & Bouchra BELKADI

Participants will be able to:

• Understand the concept of « dual use » ;

• Identify research with dual use potential;

• ….

where research results have the potential to benefit as well as damages and other cases

where potential risks of accidents or deliberate misuse of research in the life sciences

44

CLOSING SESSION /Round Table

Questions/ Recommandations by participants:

• How to integrate this active approach of the AL 2015-2030 in the strategic direction of higher education?

• Is it possible to create an institution or school to implement responsible science through active learning?

• We received an invitation to perform the workshop in the Faculty of Medicine.

Page 45: Implementing Responsible Science By Active Learningnas-sites.org/responsiblescience/files/2016/06/POST_MENA3_MEDRAOUI.pdfThe MENA (Middle East/ North Africa) region was chosen 1st

45

The most successful aspect of project?

• Facilitate the transition of information andexchange between the learner and the facilitator

• Give courage to learners to interact andparticipate at the discussion

• And the the student is no more a receiver but heparticipates to the development of information

Page 46: Implementing Responsible Science By Active Learningnas-sites.org/responsiblescience/files/2016/06/POST_MENA3_MEDRAOUI.pdfThe MENA (Middle East/ North Africa) region was chosen 1st

46

The most challenging aspect of project?

Time?!

• For make up the workshop with the various session

• The time planified of each session is not enough and we want

over beyond that time

• The time that we had to organize the workshop was the bad

period in the year of us (period of exam, defense of the licence

and master project, …)

Page 47: Implementing Responsible Science By Active Learningnas-sites.org/responsiblescience/files/2016/06/POST_MENA3_MEDRAOUI.pdfThe MENA (Middle East/ North Africa) region was chosen 1st

47

How did you interrelate the topics of your sessions?

The over all learning goal of this workshop is theuse of active learning methods to apreciateresearch misconduct from the laboratory to thescientific publication, and to understand what isresponsible authorship and dual use.

First we tried to motivate participants, and attractthem by this method of learning. After we takethis opportunity to sensitize them in a logical andchronological order of events. The diversifiedactivities avoid to boring the participants
