On 23 February 1895 “Södra Sveriges Ångpanneförening”was created when a number of steam generator owners inthe south of Sweden joined forces with the aim ofpreventing accidents and making more efficient use ofsteam power.

In the 115 years that have elapsed since then, ÅF hasplayed a key role in the industrial developments that haverevolutionized society.

The company has guided its clients through four majortechnology changes – steam, electricity, nuclear power andcomputerization – and remained at the forefront oftechnology both in the industrial era and in today’sinformation society.

AB Ångpanneföreningen was first listed on the StockholmStock Exchange in January 1986. On 5 May 2008AB Ångpanneföreningen changed its name to ÅF AB,and today it is one of Europe’s largest technical consultingcompanies.

Stockholm BypassWhy is a bypass needed? To minimise vulnerabilityStockholm is divided by water. The Baltic Sea meets Lake Mälaren in the city. These waterways were very important when the city was founded in the 13th century and today they make Stockholm a beautiful capital city. However, they have also divided the region in two. There is currently only one major road link, Essingeleden and one major rail link between northern and southern Stockholm.

To relieve Essingeleden (inner ring)Essingeleden was opened in 1967 and was designed for 80,000 vehicles a day. Traffic is now 160,000 vehicles on a normal working day. And the traffic volume is increasing. This makes Stockholm’s transport system vulnerable and Essingeledensensitive to traffic incidents. At the same time, the traffic volume means that the road is subject to serious wear, which results in a great need for repair. In addition to being perceived as a nuisance to individuals, congestion and queuing are costly from a socio-economic standpoint.

To improve communicationsThe Stockholm Bypass will provide better communication between the southern and northern parts of the county, which is intended to improve the potential for integrated labor and housing markets. This way, Stockholm residents can make better use of the competitive advantages offered by a large and unified region.

To provide a bypass for long-distance trafficThe link will provide long-distance traffic with a bypass so that it no longer has to pass through the center of Stockholm.

Effective Collaboration is the Foundation and First Step Towards Delivering an Information Model

The Collaborative Solution

“Implementing collaborative process and technology as your BIM foundation allows you to manage your data more intelligently…”

“…the earlier this is done the more rapidly data integrity can be improved and reductions in cost and risk achieved”
