1. Swachh Bharat Mission
• Awarded 7th rank out of 147 educational institutions in Swachhta Ranking - 2017 by MHRD
• Appointed ‘In-charges (Cleanliness)’ in various Departments / Centers. Regular Cleanliness Audit of Departments / Centers.
• Installation dumpers (47) throughout PU Campus to lift garbage.
• Dedicated collections of ‘Biomedical Waste from different Departments. Transported to PGI for incineration.
• Segregation of waste (bio-degradable and non-degradable) at the primary sources, i.e. hostels, shops, restaurants, residential houses in PU Campus.

4. Start Up India/ Skill India
• Bio-incubator facility was created in 2014 with the funds from BIRAC, GoI to promote Entrepreneurship. It has State-of-Art Research facilities and generated many start-ups. Has tie-ups with various Universities, National Research Laboratories, Govt. agencies and Industries.
• CSDE (Center for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship) in PU has also generated start-ups. It has collaborations with Hayden-Green Incubator, Univ. of Nottingham, U.K.
• MoU has been signed with TiE (Chandigarh Chapter) for promotion of Entrepreneurship.
• 'Hostel and Skill Development Facility for SC/ST Students' has come up with funds (200 lacs) from AICTE.

• A grant of Rs. 23,35,394/- has been sanctioned by AICTE for “Skill and Personality Development Programme Centre for SC/ST Students (SPDP)”.
• 14 B.VoC. courses have been designed through Skill Development Board, to be offered by various affiliated colleges.
• >20 lectures/ workshops/ interactions have been organized for students/ research scholars / faculty on various topics related to Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.
• Organized 3-Day entrepreneurship event ‘Canable’ in association with Chandigarh Angel Networks.
Future Plans
• 15 new B.VoC. courses are under process.
• New M.VoC. courses to be offered in university campus.
• Association with industry for new skill programmes.
5. Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat
• To commemorate the 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma
Gandhi , on 2nd October , 2018 an awareness movement on ‘Ek
Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ will be started. Seminars/ discussions
/ workshops/competitions will be organised in the Colleges.
• During PU Youth and Heritage Festivals (12 zonal and 1 Inter
Zonal), and North Zone Inter University Youth Festival ( AIU) the
passion for Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat will be highlighted .
• Poster, Charts, Artistic presentations will be prepared for
awareness among the young students
6. Digital India
• Academic and administrative buildings as well as hostels of PU
campus are Wi-fi enabled.
• The Library has RFID (Radio Frequency Identity Card) enabled
mechanism for the ease of students.
• The University has special learning software for visually
impaired students.
• Digital India Workshop were conducted by NSS and it was
funded by GOI.
• PU residential area will be made Wi-Fi enabled.
• Making existing infrastructure including buildings etc. 'Digitally
Smart‘ using Sensor and Analytics based technology.
• Provisioning students-related transactions in the Digital Mode.
• Providing Network facility in the residential areas of campus.
7. Digital Payments / Financial Inclusion
• Implementation of IT enabled integrated process management
solution
• Online-real-time basis budgetary control and expenditure
management system.
• Online bill tracking system.
• Use of Government e-Market (GeM), an online government portal
for procurement of goods and services
• Use of PFMS portal of GOI for sponsored projects
• All payments through direct credit to the bank accounts of
beneficiaries (Digital Transactions).
• Online access of salary details, PF, form 16 and other payments.
• Online fee collection portal.
• We Plan to initiate Data Based Management System concerning
Research-related activities in PU
8. E-governance/ I.T. Based Management of all Affairs
• Integrative software ‘Campus Portal’ is employed to digitalized Administrative and Academic branches for the ease of every stakeholder. (www.campus.pu.ac.in
• Admission process has been streamlined through digitalization
• Official correspondence in the university is done electronically reducing carbon footprints.
• Hostels have online central repository
• Senate and Syndicate proceedings are displayed online.
• Students attendance, minutes of various department meetings are displayed online to bring transparency in governance
• University has facilitated various student related activities such as migrations, fee depositing, examination and related activities via online mode.

• PU plans to replace the old ERP system with a completely new system.
• PU has ‘Information Resource Portal’ that keeps record of important statistics of university. The major work in this regard has already been done and further work is in progress. This special software would be one of its kind in the country having every type of information at a single place.
• Implementation of the National agenda i.e. “Make all Government services accessible to the common man in his locality, through common service delivery outlets, and ensure efficiency, transparency, and reliability of such services at affordable costs to realize the basic needs of the common man”

• To make at least one individual e-literate in every household of
adopted villages.
• To enable access of content and ICT applications by differently-
abled people to foster inclusive development.
• To leverage ICT for expanding the workforce and enabling life-
long learning.
• To adopt Open standards and promote open source and open
technologies
9. National Academic Depositories (NAD)
• NAD cell has been constituted and is functioning effectively.
• Degrees of Ph.D. Students (session 2017-18) have been uploaded on NAD.
• Four workshops on NAD conducted.
• PU executed a ‘Service Legal Agreement’ with NSDL (National Securities Depository Ltd.)
• Live demonstrations of Issuance of Digital Degree held on PU Annual Convocation on 4.3.2018
• From academic session 2018-19, every student registration with NAD id is compulsory.
• NAD is linked with the PU through the website of Dean College Development Council (DCDC) to benefit both the University and its affiliated colleges.
• The data of PG classes of the university will be uploaded on NSDL website from the academic session 2018-19 onwards
10. Digital Library
• The Library has automated all its in house activities using
SLIM-21 library management software.
• The library catalogue can be accessed through Web OPAC
interface.
• RFID technology provides full-proof security, access control
and proper holding management which includes automated
check-in & check-outs of inventory, theft detection, stock
verification and book drop facility.
• 5000 e journals with UGC INFONET consortium e.g. Science
Direct, EBSCO, JSTOR, ACS, AIP, RSC; and UGC Shodhsindu
Consortium.
• Facilities to use laptops via LAN and WiFi in the PU library.

• Digitization of Gurumukhi script finished
• Digitization of Ph.D Theses done and uploaded on UGC-Inflibnet website
• Digitization of Sanskrit and other regional languages are in the process with E-Gangotri Trust.
• Digitization of Manuscripts (approximate 1500) and Newspapers (15) from 1947 onwards to be started soon.
• Rs. 50 lacs approved by the finance committee for the creation of State of Art Archives. Case has been sent to BOF.
11. Health for All
• Yoga Sessions are held every working day.
• One month Yoga Course culminating in the celebration of
International Yoga Day on June 21 is organized every year.
Lecturers and Workshops by experts on subjects ( Life Style
Modifications) like Balanced Diet, Role of Physical Activity,
Stress Management, Yoga, Substance Abuse, Alcoholism,
Smoking hazards, Vector Borne Diseases, First Aid training,
Road Safety etc
Panel discussions on HTN, DM, Bronchial Asthma etc.
• To continue with series of Lectures / Workshops / Exhibitions /
Posters / Rallies/ Skits etc. for awareness of the masses.
12. Preventive / Curative Health Care Facilities
• Bhai Ghanaiya Ji Institute of Health caters to about 50,000
Employees and their dependents and students.
• Free medical checkups and investigation camps, Seminars,
Lectures, etc. are organized on a regular basis.
• Health Center has a fully equipped modern clinical laboratory,
computerized ECG machine, x-ray machine.
• Round-the-clock ambulance and emergency services.
• Carried out campaigns for the prevention and management of
various infectious and non-infectious diseases.
• Plan to continue aggressively with the above mentioned
campaigns by making the masses and the stake holders aware
of the preventive and curative aspects of all these diseases.
13. Anti Drug Campaign
• To spread awareness among the students of PU campus and
PU affiliated colleges, lectures were delivered followed by
interaction with information about rehabilitation from time to
time.
• We plan to continue with the present efforts on a war footing in
view of the menace of Drug / Substance / Alcohol / Smoking /
Tobacco in this region.
• Doctors in the Heath Center are trained and instructed to
provide counseling to the students addicted to drug and this
consultation is the part of every day treatment.
14. Mental Health
• A counselor has been appointed under DSW for Psychological counseling for the students researchers and faculty members.
• Department of Psychology has conducted a study on mental health in the Institute of Health in 2017and provided counseling to needy.
• Publishing of articles, reviews, and research papers in reputed journals to discuss the issues related to mental health.
• Inviting scholars , holding workshops and conferences.
Future Plans
• To focus more on identifying and emphasizing what mental health really means to our youth in today's world.
• Creating a vision of today's mental health integrating one's bio-psycho- social wellbeing through interactions with and cooperation from different stakeholders of society.

• To aim at providing mental health services focusing on Promotion ,Prevention and Intervention.
• To design programs which can provide opportunities to the participants to widen their social support system without undergoing formal assessments, diagnosis etc. Wisdom gained through helping each other to overcome life's challenges can be further used to design programs for promoting mental health.
• To promote acceptance and effective assistance and support to those who may be suffering from a psychological condition through lectures, workshops etc.
• To design programs and researches to de-stigmatize seeking help and encourage greater resources for treatment.
• To recruit full time counselors at student counseling cell at the Psychology department.
15. Social Media Policy
• PU has well maintained website (http://puchd.ac.in/) for information
sharing with all departments operating online notice boards.
• PU has a Department of Public Relations with following functions
related to social media operations & management:

– Use the social media handles to highlight the
achievements of PU and keep the followers updated. The
university has over 2,10,095 followers across various
media channels across the globe.

16. Khelo India
• Under ‘Khelo India’ Program 12 verticals, in play field
development & community coaching development are created.
• Talented players identified through High powered committee
are provided Annual Financial Assistance of 5 Lakhs for 8
years.
• The success of Panjab University in promoting Khelo India
program made it a Talent Development Centre in Swimming.
• Conduct of Inter University coaching camps for 85 different
teams.
• Organize one month Yoga camp and celebration of
International Yoga day.
• Organize summer coaching camp.
17. Women Empowerment
• PU has a ‘Department cum Centre for Women's Studies &
Development’.
• 10 workshops on Gender Sensitization of Security Personnel.
• 8 refresher courses on Gender Studies have been organized by
UGC Center Human Resource Development.
• Panjab University Committee Against Sexual Harassment
(PUCASH) has actively conducted many workshops and
enquiries to ensure women empowerment.
• Gender Sensitization Workshop for Children of Snehalaya
• Orientation Program for functionaries of Department of Social
Welfare.
• Proper representation of Women at every level.

wards of Class IV employees of PU.
Future Plans
• To make Chandigarh girl/women friendly city by implementing
Zero Tolerance approach for Violence against women
• To start skill development/ income generating programmes for
rural women in the adopted villages of PU.
• To create awareness about the Government policy and
programmes related to rural women in Chandigarh and Punjab.
• To create health awareness among Community in general and
women in Particular regarding Drug Abuse, Alcoholism,
Reproductive Health etc.
18. Energy / Water Conservation
• Energy & Water conservation measures:
– Out of 650 street light poles in university, 158 lights have
been replaced from sodium vapour lamp (70 W) to LED
lights (25 w or 35 w) reducing 159kv consumption to 68 kv
consumption saving consumption of 100 kv.
– Emphasis on procuring 5 Star Efficient Electric Equipments.
• Conservation
– Centre Ground Water Board sanctioned INR 7 Cr. to
construct 54 rain water harvesting units. Project completed
in 2015.
• Solar Plant is in pipeline for enhancing the usage of renewable
resources in University premises.
• SPV( 50 KV to 100 KV) on all departments will bring down the
dependency on outside agency and make university energy
producing institution and earn from selling.
