Urban sprawl, land consumption & soil sealing are one of the major challenges for Europe’s environment

Land / soil is a finite and non-regenerative ressource

Pressure from building activities causes loss of ecologically valuable areas

How is land consumption developing?> 25% of the EU territory is directly affected by urban land use

> 75% of the European citizens live in urban areas Source: European Environment Agency

Every day, in Germany approx. 100 ha of soil are lost for urban developmentand transport infrastructure Source: Federal Statistical Office Germany

Strategies for soil protection and monitoring systems are neededon European and national level

Number of projects to support their development

GMES SP services development

• testing of various base mapping products (compatibility with CLC standards, MMUs)

• testing of spatial planning downstream products specification

• testing of technical & financial feasibility• testing of processing lines setup• strengthening of operational capacities

of service providers • quality qualification / validation methodology• free services provision to users for testing in their

working environment• user federation support, consolidation of user

feedback

Guidance in further Land Monitoring and Spatial Planning services development towards operational services setup

Shared Services production

GeoVille and Gisat are long time pioneers in these developments using innovative approaches(e.g. OBIA approach – DEFINIENS awards)

Tested shared capacities and joint productions in the frame of ESA SAGE, ESA GSELAND and recently geoland2 projects

Good experience in shared processing chainsfor operational FTSP Sealing production

Number of GMES Services implementation/testing in the Czech Republic was done on local, regional and national level

GMES Spatial Planning services address the policy needs on local, regional, national and EU level

SP services proved to be a key input for Urban development and sub-urbanisation monitoring delivering novel spatial insight into the urban processes

Number of successful implementation of SP services has been done in Czech Republic

Conclusions / Outlook

Page 28: Implementation of GMES services in the Czech Republic · A house in the countryside – everyone’s dream ... geoland2 Core Information Service providing users with geo-information

Cooperation of GISAT and GeoVille presents a good example how services can be chained as well as production capacities shared in future(recently proved by joint data service support project awarded by EEA)

New joint production takes place within geoland2 project further developing and delivering SP services for Dresden-Linz transect

Regular and systematic update based on sustainable funding is essential for operational uptake of SP services in planning activities
