GUEST ARTIST WORKSHOP - March 21-23

Illuminating light characteristics effect how the artist perceives colors in the landscape.Recognizing and mixing the correct hue, saturation, value, and temperature, and combining that with a particular light source will enable you to create a powerful and beautiful statement. Demonstrations and lectures on related fundamentals, techniques, procedures, and materials will be part of the workshop, along with individualized attention. Painting time will be spent working in the studio from a photographic source.

Instructor: Larry Blovits, B.F.A. and M.F.A., Wayne State University, is retired after twenty six years as a Professor of Art at Aquinas College. He is a full-time artist specializing in portrait and landscape painting, private commissions, tutoring, and teaching workshops across thecountry and abroad. A consistent award winner in National and Regional shows since 1964, he is featured in a number of books and magazine articles, and also authored two books: Pastel for the Serious Beginner, and No Experience Required: Sketching and Drawing.

His artwork is represented in numerous collections including the Muskegon Museum of Art, Grand Rapids Art Museum, and many other public and private collections. He has been elected to Signature status in many national art organizations including the American Portrait Society, and the Pastel Society of America, who honored Larry with the title, Master Pastelist in 1996.

RALPH ANNUNZIATA, B.F.A., Columbus College of Art and Design, has worked more than 30 years in commercial design as a global creative director and marketing strategist for Nike/NikeStore.com, Lord and Taylor, and the Bay.com, as well as numerous local business organizations promoting their products and services. His skills include brand management,design, photography, project management, and e-commerce.

JILLIAN BROWN, B.F.A. in Photography, Adrian College, is a graduate assistant and lab technician for the Photography program at KCAD, and a graduate student with an emphasis in photography.

DOROTHY DORNEY, M.F.A., in Advertising Design, Marywood University, also holds degrees in art education and jewelry design. She has years of teaching experience in public schools, is proficient with communication software tools and technology, and is a world traveler.

SEAN GARDNER, is a freelance graphic designer and web design student at Grand Rapids Community College.

JEAN HANKS, has been a web designer and developer for more than ten years. She was a web architect for C2 Media and web content manager for Fusionary Media. She is currently self-employedand pursuing degrees in both web development and marketing at Davenport University.

DOROTHY KANE, M.A.E., Wayne State University, B.S., Jewelry & Metalsmithing, Western Michigan University, is a studio artist with more than thirty years art education experience.

TAYLOR MAZER, B.F.A. in Illustration, Kendall College of Art and Design, has exhibited his work and won awards locally and regionally.

JODY POOLE, B.F.A., Kendall College of Art and Design, is an interior designer for Custer Workplace Interiors, and teaches Professional courses for KCAD Continuing Studies.

TIM POSPISIL, B.F.A. in Illustration, Kendall College of Art and Design, was the StudioExcellence Award Winner for Illustration in 2004. He is employed as a graphic artist andillustrator, and designs screen print and embroidery for apparel in the resort and retail industry.

CORINNE ROBERTS, B.F.A. in Illustration, Kendall College of Art and Design, is a frequent instructor in the Continuing Studies program. She has illustrated and published her own children’s book.

BRENDA SIPE, M.F.A., Painting, Michigan State University, is Director of Continuing Studies at Kendall College of Art and Design. She has taught art at the college level, and exhibited her work nationally and internationally. She is having a solo exhibition at Alma College during Winter 2014. In addition, she has developed an art product line that she sells on the wholesale market.

SANDRA HANSEN, B.F.A. in Painting and Drawing, Kendall College of Art and Design, was the Studio Excellence Award Winner for Painting in 2013. She has been a visiting art teacher in Varanasi, India, teaching children and adults, and was Study Abroad Director for Vidyashram Schools.

ELIZABETH IVY HAWKINS, M.F.A., in Painting, Kendall College of Art and Design, has several years’ experience as both an artist and educator. Her paintings have been exhibited both regionally and nationally, most recently in group exhibitions in Los Angeles and New York City. During 2012/2011 her art was on display at the Michigan Governor’s mansion in Lansing.

ELIZABETH HUBLER-TORREY, B.F.A., Painting with minor in Interactive Design from Kendall College of Art and Design, is a freelance graphic designer and current graduate student at Kendall. Elizabeth has been included in various competitions and exhibitions including Art in Science Exhibition where she was awarded 3rd place from the Arts and Industry Council ofBattle Creek.

GREGORY NATHAN JOHNSON, M.F.A. in Painting from Kendall College of Art and Design, is a freelance artist.

KATHERINE JOHNSON, M.F.A. in Painting, Kendall College of Art and Design, B.S. in Graphic Design and Illustration, Indiana Wesleyan University, has worked in graphic design, and program development. She has been an artist in residence, and adjunct instructor at the college level.

BONNIE SLAYTON, M.A. in Art Education, Central Michigan University, has taught art to all ages for over 30 years. She is retired as an elementary art teacher from Wyoming Public Schools, and exhibits her art work locally and regionally. She has a Holistic Health certificate from Western Michigan University, and certification in Expressive Arts from Saybrook Graduate and Research Center.

C.J. VAN DAFF-ZONDERVAN, B.F.A. in Interior Design, Kendall College of Art and Design, isN.C.I.D.Q. certified with specialized studies in historic preservation and restoration. Herinterior design commissions have included The Grand Rapids Symphony Showhouse, The Governor’s Summer Residence, Mackinac Island, and the Nantucket Preservation Trust. Her work has been featured in a number of national magazines.

SHANE VANOOSTERHOUT, B.F.A., Graphic Design, University of Michigan, teaches Digital Media at Kendall and is author of “The Passionate Gardner” blog.

MICHAEL WILLIAMS, B.F.A., Illustration with a minor in Graphic Design, Kendall College of Art and Design, is a book designer and adjunct instructor in Kendall’s Digital Media department. His illustrations have been published in national magazines, exhibited at the Society of Illustrator’s in New York, and he was a finalist in the Society of Illustrators Los Angeles #39 Competition.

HOW TO REGISTER, AND POLICIES

Enrollment is on a first-come, first-served basis. To register, complete the attached registration form(s), p. 22, with check or money order and mail to Kendall Continuing Studies, 17 Fountain St. NW, Grand Rapids, MI 49503, or register online at www.kcad.edu/youth-and-adults. You can also call,616.451.2787, x3012. VISA, MasterCard and Discover credit or debit cards are accepted online and by telephone. If you need assistance with online registration, call 616.451.2787, x3012. Registration is not valid unless accompanied by payment.

Receipts. When registering online you will receive an electronic confirmation of your registration. All others will receive a receipt via mail. Information regarding class outlines and supply lists (if applicable) will be provided with your confirmation of registration.

Cash and Checks. Appropriate fees will be charged for checks which are returned unpaid due to insufficient funds. Please be aware when paying by cash or check, that if your class is cancelled you will need to complete additional paperwork in order to be reimbursed. Please allow up to five weeksprocessing time for refunds of payments made by check.

Class Cancellation. We reserve the right to cancel classes due to insufficient enrollment, with a full refund. If you registered as part of a group and one person’s class is cancelled, registrations for classes that have not been cancelled will not be refunded. Tuition paid online with debit or credit card will be credited back to your card. Please allow up to two weeks processing time for refunds. Tuition paid by check will require you to fill out additional paperwork before obtaining a refund. Please allow up to five weeks processing time for refunds of payments made by cash or check.

Withdrawal from Class. There will be a full refund of tuition and fees for withdrawal requests submitted prior to the final registration deadline. There will be a partial (50%) refund of tuition and fees for withdrawal requests submitted after the final registration deadline and up to 24 hours before the class begins. A 50% fee will be charged for course transfers after the final registration deadline. No course transfers will be permitted on or after the day of the first class. There will be no refund of tuition or fees for withdrawal requests submitted on or after the day of the first class. Please allow up to twoweeks processing time for refunds of payments made online, and five weeks processing time for refunds of payments made by cash or check.

Late Registration and Withdrawal. Our standard withdrawal/refund policies apply to those students who register after the registration deadline.

Inclement Weather or Building Closure. In the event that classes are cancelled due to weather, an announcement will be made on local television stations.

Early Registration Tuition Discount. Individuals who register early for Continuing Studies classes are eligible for a 10% Early Registration Tuition Discount (supply and lab fees are not included). This discount will appear automatically when registering online. This may not be used in conjunction with other discounts. The early registration deadline for Winter/Spring 2014 is December 18, 2013.

Discounts. Kendall College of Art and Design provides the following discounts off tuition* (excluding lab and supply fees):

• KCAD Alumni, their spouses and children under the age of eighteen

(10% discount)

• KCAD Adjunct Faculty (10% discount)

• KCAD Continuing Studies Instructors (10% discount)

• Current full-time KCAD students, their spouses and children under the

age of eighteen (10% discount)

• Senior Citizens, age 65 and older (10% discount)

• LIMIT: One tuition discount per registration.

Supplies. Supplies for classes are not included in the cost of the class, unless indicated by a supply fee. Photography and computer classes include a lab fee, but additional supplies may be required as well. Class outlines and supply lists (if applicable) are attached to your automatic registration confirmation when registering online, or mailed to you when registering by any other means.

Location. Students will be notified in advance by email of their room and building location. Signage will also be prominently displayed in the entrance of both buildings.

Special Needs. Please make sure staff and the instructor are notified about any special needs or concerns. We will try to accommodate them.

Parking. On-street parking is free after 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, and all day Saturday and Sunday. Parking is also available in the city ramp one block west of KCAD.

Photographs. As a condition of enrollment, students and/or parents of minor students, consent to the use of any works produced by them while a student at Kendall College of Art and Design of Ferris State University (KCAD) for the purpose of publicizing and promoting KCAD. A student also consents to being photographed in activities while a student at KCAD. These photographs may also be used by KCAD for promotional efforts without specific written permission from the student and/or parents of minor students.
