Coming Attractions
How can you use iMovie Trailer
to showcase what you know about
ANYTHING?
Overview
Students use Apple’s iMovie Trailer to demonstrate a
deep knowledge of their content by creating a short trailer
similar to coming attractions.
Preview Students watch a trailer for a movie and pick
adjectives that describe their feelings it.
Activity In a Problem-Solving Groupwork activity,
students pretend to be working for a movie production
company about to release a trailer that will entice
audiences to come to see a coming movie. The trailer
showcases a deep understanding of what students have
been studying in class recently.
Processing The completed trailer is the processing for
this activity.

Preview Suggested time: 5 minutes
1. Greet students at the door. Distribute Student
Handout to students as they enter the room.
2. Project movie trailer. Have students view an age-
appropriate movie trailer from a coming attraction.
(suggested site for trailers:
http://movies.msn.com/movies/family/coming-soon/)
3. Placing Trailer Adjectives. After viewing the trailer,
place four copies of each adjective at the front of the
class. Have students come and retrieve one adjective.
(Prior to class, take the total students in your class
and divide by four, rounding up, to get the number of
unique adjectives needed for this). 1. Interesting
2. Exciting
3. Curious
4. Enthusiastic
5. Lively
6. Delightful
7. Colossal
8. Splendid
4. Describing Trailer with Adjectives. Have students
group themselves with the others who have the same
adjective. Give them one minute as a group to come
up with a sentence regarding the trailer they saw that
uses that adjective.
5. Have Groups Share. Call on each group to quickly
share their sentence. Tell students that good movie
trailers entice audiences by choosing carefully from
the storyline and build intrigue with narration. Tell
students they will create a movie trailer for the
content they have been studying. The groups they are
with right now will be the people they will work with.

movie production company responsible for producing
a coming attractions trailer that will entice people to
come see a movie that deals with the content they
have been studying. Show the following example on
the American Revolution as a model for the students:
