    MotivationThe company's CSR strategy is outline in Our Credo,which was written more than 60 years ago by General Robert Wood Johnson who was Chairman of the Board. The Credo describes Johnson & Johnson's responsibility towards its customers, employees, communities and shareholders. The beginning of the company's worldwide philanthropy programme officially dates to 1906, when Johnson & Johnson sent medical supplies to aid the victims of disasters the San Francisco earthquake and fire.

    Environment

    Johnson & Johnson engages in a variety of programmes and partnerships with organisations as part of its commitment to the environment and sustainable growth. Furthermore, the company aims at reducing overall consumption of resources and covers important topics such as waste reduction, energy and water.

    Johnson & Johnson's commitment to the environment includes partnerships with many respected organizations, including the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, the Business for Social Responsibility and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development.

    Among other programmes, the company has established the "Next Generation Goals",a proactive pollution prevention programme aimed at improving environmental performance and the integration of environmental management into business decisions. These goals have been achieved and new targets have been established.

    Health and Safety

    Health and safety programmes address the company's employees as well as the communities in which they operate. These programmes focus on ergonomics, machine safety, and health and well-being. The "Healthy People 2010" programme is an initiative focusing on promoting a healthy and productive work force by concentrating

    on four key health targets: smoking cessation, blood pressure, cholesterol and physical activity.

Some of these issues include child safety and HIV/AIDS prevention. Johnson & Johnson is the founding sponsor of the National SAFE KIDS Campaign in the U.S., and key supporter of SAFE KIDS Worldwide. SAFE KIDS is dedicated to the prevention of unintentionalchildhood injury, a leading cause of death in children ages 14 and under.Johnson & Johnson has more than 100 philanthropic programs in over 40 countriesthat attempt to address the needs of those affected by HIV/AIDS around the world. Every sector of society has a role to play in reversing its spread. Johnson &Johnson seeks to make a difference in the lives of people affected by the AIDS epidemic by developing effective new medicines and diagnostics; enhancing accessto our products; providing product and cash contributions to assist local communities; and providing prevention, counseling, testing and treatment resources toour employees and their families affected by HIV/AIDS worldwide.
