Immigration in America

Immigration in the United States is a topic that is considered as one

of the most important topics in politics today.

Many politicians, and citizens for that matter, have very strong opinions on this subject whether is be towards pro immigration or

against immigration.

There are many different sub genres under the topic of Immigration,

but possibly the most debated is how it affects the American people

and economy as a whole.

ANALYSIS OF IMMIGRATION ON THE ECONOMY

• There are many opposing views when it comes to this topic, but there is proven

evidence that the amount of immigration that occurs in America is negatively

affecting the American economy.

• Immigration in itself is not a problem to the United States economy, the problem

arises when the immigration is not being controlled and the number of people

coming into the country, legally and illegally, becomes much higher than what can be

handled. With the native population growth rising every year, it makes handling the

economy that much more difficult when the high number of immigrants are added

into the mix.

What is the true effect of the Economy

This is highly debated because it is very difficult to truly understand the full affect of

immigration on the economy because there are many undocumented immigrants who

go uncounted for because they are not citizens of the United States.

“The increasing immigrant population suggests that immigration may create a substantial

fiscal burden on the most affected localities and states.” (Borjas)

Since the immigration population is increasing substantially per year, (about 175,000

immigrants per year the last time it was recorded.) the effect on the economy is steadily

becoming bigger and bigger.

The economy is not in a great place right now, and some say that immigration is a big

reason why, while that cannot be completely verified because it is opinionated, there are

plenty claims that show the correlation of this.

THE APPEAL OF STATISTICS

• When talking about immigration and its effect on the economy, the best route to take is to use logic and statistics to support a claim that is made.

• There definitely can be emotional ties to this topic because of how it could potentially affect immigrant families in the near future, but as for an overall better argument, logos is the most effective route.

• This topic is surrounded by statistics that back up mostly every person’s argument when they speak on this matter. The best way to find the true effect of immigration on the economy is through the use of statistics, because these numbers cannot be denied or considered “opinionated.”

This Topic Matters

• Many people do not realize how important this discussion is, many people my age do not pay much attention to politics or topics of this nature.

• All people in America should care about this topic, whether they be immigrants themselves or people who have been citizens from birth. Immigrants should definitely care because their future could potentially be affected by changing policies.

• All American citizens should also be aware of this topic because they should learn how immigration happens and how it affects their lives, it may not seem like it would, but could potentially affect them in a secondary aspect.

• This could be the case because many people have problems with giving their tax dollars that they worked for to a person who just came into the country when there are already struggling citizens here in America.

Conclusion

• “Progress is impossible without change, and those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything.” – George Bernard Shaw

• Many people are scared to say too much about this topic because it might offend some people or they claim that there is nothing that can be done to slow down immigration. There needs to be policies put into place to control immigration, because if this is not changed, it could potentially kill the economy.
