MARY VI Pius XII’s consecration of the world to the Immaculate Heart of Mary did not mention Russia and was not done in communion with all the bishops of the world, as Our Lady had requested. But it was efficacious, according to Sr. Lucia, the last of the Fatima visionaries, in that it hastened the end of the Second World War. Pius XII made the consecration on October 31, 1942. Consider the following events. On November 8, the allied landings began in French North Africa (Morocco and Algeria). On November 11, at the second battle of El Alamein, British General Montgomery decisively defeated Rommel, Hitler’s “desert fox,” eliminating the Nazi presence in Egypt and Libya. By the end of the year all of North Africa was in allied hands. In the first weeks of November, the allied forces in the Pacific repulsed a major Japanese offensive to retake Henderson Field, an effort to regain control of Gua-dalcanal, and the Solomon Islands, north of Australia. Though it would be early February before the Japanese had completely evacuated the Solomons, from November, 1942 on, they fought a rearguard battle in the Pacific; momentum had swung to the allies. Finally, in Russia itself, the Red Army surrounded the Axis forces at Stalingrad on November 19. This was the beginning of the end of the Nazi invasion of the Soviet Union. By January, 1943, Winston Churchill was able to say, “The wheel of destiny has turned.” So it had. North Africa, Guadalcanal and Stalingrad combined, sig-naled the turning point in the war. One could argue that it was a coincidence that these events happened within three weeks of the Pope’s consecration of the world to Our Lady’s heart. But the subsequent history of the twentieth century suggests otherwise. IHM Pray for us Fr. Jim

The average amount of these pledges is $1,000. We are very grateful for the generosity of those parishioners who completed payment of their pledge, and ask that you prayerful-ly consider continuing your participation for an additional $1,000. BAPTISMS / BAUTISMOS:

Parents must complete the Baptism Registration form available in the parish office at least two months in advance

and attend the required baptism class. You must provide a copy of the child’s birth certificate. Godparents may also

attend the same class or attend one at their local parish and obtain a completion certificate. When choosing your child’s Godparents, please bear in mind that they must be baptized,

confirmed, receive communion regularly in the Church and, if married, they must be married in the Catholic Church. There

can be NO exceptions to these rules.

Los padres tienen que llenar la forma de Registro para Bautizos disponible en la oficina parroquial por lo menos dos

meses antes y asistir a la clase de bautismos requerida. Usted tiene que traer una copia del

certificado de nacimiento del bebé. Los Padrinos también tienen que asistir a la misma clase o asistir a una en la
