Our community extends a welcome to visitors who join us in prayer and worship, and we invite you to make our parish your spiritual home.
Whatever your age or walk of life, we want this parish to be a place where you grow ever closer to Jesus. We are a community centered on excellent liturgy, helping people of all ages grow in faith, and welcoming all- especially those who feel disconnected from the Church or faith.

A MESSAGE FROM OUR PASTOR, FATHER DAN
THE VISION THAT INSPIRES ME: I picture a bright future for the Salem Catholic Collaborative. I foresee excellent Sunday Masses, especially in the areas of: homilies, music, and hospitality. I imagine a faith formation program centered on adults, focused on deepening our personal relationship with Jesus, and also having robust components for children, youth, and young adults. I visualize filling some of those empty pews by finding, inviting and welcoming home our beloved brothers and sisters who are infrequently at church. I see a future where the poor and vulnerable are better cared for and protected. I dream of having someone from our community in the seminary. With Jesus on our side, and working together, we will make this vision a reality. For “If God is for us, who can be against us?” ARE YOU NEW TO OUR PARISH? WELCOME, WELCOME! Thank you for coming. We love to have new people join us. We are delighted to have you with us! ARE YOU A LONG TIME PARISHIONER? You are very important to me!
ENJOYABLE AND ABOUT THREE HOURS: As of 4/24 I had found an hour on my days off to read Pope Francis’ great recent document: “The Joy of Love.” I got thru the first 3 of 9 chapters. I found it enjoyable, interesting, inspiring and easy to understand. Very uplifting. I long to get back to it. I highly, highly recommend it. THE OPIOID CRISIS is striking heavily, including in the SCC. “Jesus, we fervently pray for liberation for those who are addicted, consolation for families of addicts or those who have died, and for eternal life for those whose lives have been claimed by this scourge.” MY SECOND GRAND NEPHEW, Michael Riley Blair, was born on Friday, April 22, 6 pounds, 3 ounces, and everyone is healthy. I am so proud! GREAT BOOK: POPE FRANCIS: “THE CHURCH OF MERCY.” I have read it three times and love it! From the book description: “Pope Francis’s simple message of mercy, service, and renewal has spread to every corner of the world. Pope Francis has captured the attention of a world longing for an authentic message of hope—we want to hear what he has to say. Collected from Pope Francis’s speeches, homilies, and papers presented during the first year of his papacy . . .. Pope Francis is helping the Church continue toward an authentic Christianity that is faithful to the Gospel and resonant with the world’s greatest needs. The Church of Mercy encourages each of us to ignite the flame within to help share the light of Christ and revitalize the Church.” RECOMMENDED WEBSITE: SALT AND LIGHT CATHOLIC MEDIA at www.saltandlighttv.org. There is lots of good stuff on the website. Salt and Light provides Vatican Live events, youthful programs, current affairs, interview series, and programming that celebrates faith in family life. A HAPPY AND BLESSED FIRST COMMUNION to all, and many thanks to all who helped prepare the children to receive Jesus! MOTHER’S DAY IS NEXT WEEK! A great day to invite loved ones to come to Church. MAY IS MARY’S MONTH: How wonderful is her tender love! “Mary, pray for us and lead us into the outstretched arms of your son, Jesus.” MY APRIL 24th HOMILY THOUGHT: The measure of the success of our life is: do we love one another, as Jesus loves us? One definition: “Love is acting in a way that promotes the well-being of the other.” WHO WON LAST TUESDAYS FIVE PRIMARIES? “Holy Spirit, please guide all those involved in the presidential selection process -- giving them an abundance of wisdom and love.” SPORTS UPDATE – As I write this the Red Sox are a game under 500. The Celts won game three in their series. The Patriots will have drafted by the time you read this.

POPE FRANCIS: THE PROBLEMS FACED BY POOR HOUSEHOLDS are often all the more trying. For example, if a single mother has to raise a child by herself and needs to leave the child alone at home while she goes to work, the child can grow up exposed to all kinds of risks and obstacles to personal growth. In such difficult situations of need, the Church must be particularly concerned to offer understanding, comfort and acceptance, rather than imposing straightaway a set of rules that only lead people to feel judged and abandoned by the very Mother called to show them God’s mercy. (p. 39, The Joy of Love.)

LIFE IN THE SALEM CATHOLIC COLLABORATIVE
(Papa Francisco, Amoris Laetitia, 168).
KNITTERS NEEDED St. James’ knitting group is looking for new members. We meet on Wednesday mornings from March to June, then September until the bazaar in the Fall. Join us from 9:30-11:30AM in the conference room– BYO needles and yarn, refreshments will be supplied. All are welcome, novices to experts! Our items are sold at the knitting booth at our yearly bazaar. For information, please speak to Jeannette Chalifour.

Immaculate Conception $19,373, which is 77% of our $25,228 goal. St. James is at is at $17,307, which is 70% of our $24,665 goal St. John the Baptist HAS EXCEEDED THEIR GOAL! We are at 9,497, which is 115% of the 8,290 goal.
I give to the Catholic Appeal because it makes possible key things like training new priests, passing on the faith and caring for the poor. I also give because our parishes must make up the difference if our goals are not reached (unless given a pass as we have been the last two years), and we get approximately 50% back of all that we raise over our goal. THANKS TO ALL who have given, and if you have not had a chance to so, please consider doing so. It makes possible Jesus’ works.
– Gratefully, Fr. Dan.
