“The Bridegroom is here!
Go out to Meet Him!!”
Jesus told his followers a parable about the
necessity of being prepared for his final
coming. In the story, the Church was depicted
as bridesmaids who were either vigilant or
unprepared for the arrival of the "bridegroom"
who was Christ. In Jesus' day, the bridesmaids
were expected to meet the bridegroom with
their oil lamps to lead the wedding party to his
home where the wedding feast would be held.
The foolish bridesmaids did not expect the
bridegroom to arrive at night, but the wise ones
believed that he could arrive at any time. The
foolish bridesmaids were caught by surprise and
had to go and find oil for their lamps while the
rest of the wedding party proceeded to the
wedding feast. By the time they arrived, the
door had been locked, and they were refused
entrance. The point of this parable of the
bridesmaids is readiness. Jesus was
continuously telling people to wake up and stay
awake. Obtaining the oil of sanctity was the
responsibility of each individual. No one could
borrow the spiritual wealth that others acquired.
Jesus said that he would welcome the faithful
servants, but those who foolishly left these
matters to the last would be excluded from the
wedding feast in God's kingdom.

Celebrating Stewardship Sunday
Dear Friends in Christ-
Who do you say that Jesus is? How do you live your life
according to your response? As friends and followers of
Jesus, these are some of the questions that we are called to
consider many times during our lives. They are also at the
foundation to this year’s celebration of Stewardship
Weekend. On the weekend of November 11 and 12, we will
be joining with other parishes from around the diocese and
will be focusing on the Stewardship Sunday and the theme:
In Jesus’ Name: Be Bold, Be Grateful, Pray, Serve, Share. It
will be a wonderful opportunity for each of us to reflect upon
who Jesus is in our lives and our lived response to His
incredible love for us. This will be another time that we can
grow in our relationship with Jesus and each other. I ask that
each of you join in the wonderful celebration of Stewardship
Weekend. Our parish staff, pastoral council and stewardship
committee members have recommended that we celebrate In
Jesus’ Name: Be Bold, Be Grateful, Pray, Serve,
Share in the following manner:

Faith Formation
“Stay Awake”
In the daily activities of family life, we can easily find
excuses for not attending to our spiritual lives. If not
given top priority, prayer and reading Scripture risk
becoming occasional activities rather than daily
practices. In today’s Gospel, Jesus reminds us that if we
fail to give our spiritual life priority, we will find
ourselves unprepared to receive Jesus. Daily prayer and
spiritual practice keeps us ready to receive Jesus.
Gather together as a family and talk about some of the
things our faith calls us to do every day and every week
to keep God first in our lives. Talk about what might
happen if we don’t do these things regularly. Explain to
your family that Jesus taught us that it is important to
keep ourselves ready to receive him when he comes
again. Tell them to listen as you read the parable that
Jesus tells in today’s Gospel. Read aloud Matthew 25:1-
13. Talk with your family about why Jesus says that it is
so important to remain ready to receive the Kingdom of
Heaven. Pray together that your family will always
keep God first in your lives so that you will all be
prepared to receive Jesus when he comes. Pray together
the Act of Hope.
