MISSION STATEMENT
Immaculate Conception - Jamaica, New York is a multi-cultural Catholic Parish called in LOVE, rich in GIFTS and one in GOD. Our mission is rooted in the Gospel, the Eucharist and the Passionist charism. We are a people seeking to welcome, respond to and serve a diversity of persons and needs in a changing community. We do this through the celebration of the sacraments, faith formation and compassionate outreach.

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK We offer joyful and prayerful congratulations to Joseph and Wilda Racster Eyssallenne who celebrate their wedding at Mass this Saturday evening. This has to be special because Fr. Jack Douglas, C.P. will be the officiant for their marriage! Congratulations.
I want to offer a sincere thanks to all who were able to participate in the Spring Dinner Dance last weekend. It seemed to have been an enjoyable time for everyone. I certainly hope so. The hall was beautiful as were all the arrangements on the tables. Thank you to the committee that met and worked out all the details of hospitality, menus, seating and the many practical things that are a must to make for a relaxing time. Especially thank you to Tito Lerum our chairperson and Luis Ruiz and his wife who prepared the dinner.
This past Sunday the choirs from the parishes of our deanery presented a ceremony of carols and readings on the theme of the Good Shepherd - mostly Easter music and music that spoke of God’s calling to us. The church looked lovely with the Easter flowers, our well tuned organ played with gusto by various organists and there was beautiful singing. Thanks to the choir from our parish with its powerful rendition of “Jerusalem” and the direction of Mr. Ed Burkard.
All are invited to the play, “The Wedding Singer”, a musical comedy presentation in the school auditorium by the Royal Star Theatre. The play runs this week on April 29th and again next week on Friday and Saturday, May 4th and 5th.
Also, in a theatre near you opening on May 18 is a film about Pope Francis co-produced by the Vatican’s Office of Communication, “A Man of His Word”. The movie witnesses the kindness, understanding and sharing that is the sum of Pope Francis’ pontificate; his humanity and his refined thought. The reviews say you will feel like you have met the pope! The movie is made for Catholics and non-Catholics alike. It conveys that God loves each one of us unconditionally - no matter what our color or creed - and we are called to love each other, and to love the world that God has entrusted to us.
