The Gospel shows the most important moments in the life of Jesus, when he came to understand his mission, and he realiz-es he will carry it out through humiliation and defeat . Jesus wants his disciples to accept the plan of the Father for him but they do not do so. Only after death will they understand how the way of the cross is the way to life. The second read-ing continues with this Gospel idea and invites all of us to die with Christ. The death we speak of here is the destruction of selfishness.
The first reading completes the message of the Liturgy by presenting Abraham to us, the man who placed his trust in God, and because of this, was promised a nation and numer-ous descendants. Disciples who have the courage to place their trust in God, through human eyes may appear to be fail-ures, will in reality have numerous descendants
Hope for Climate Action: A New Bi-Partisan Bill To Reduce Fossil Fuel Use The Interfaith Climate-Justice Action Network (ICAN) invites you to a presentation on a federal bill with bi-partisan support that will address climate change, called the Ener-gy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act. The US Catholic Bishops Conference has already praised the bill calling it a “hopeful sign that more and more, climate change is beginning to be seen as a crucial moral issue.” Join us on Tuesday March 19 from 7:00pm - 8:30pm (refreshments at 6:45pm) at the Quaker Meeting House 120 Third Street, Ithaca to learn more.

Notre Dame Women’s Retreat presents: “Our Spiritual Journey” April 5-7, 2019 Notre Dame Retreat Center, Canandaigua Hear the stories from scripture which offer words of encour-agement along our personal journeys. Contact: Maureen Seeley: [email protected]/607-589-6483
The Following story is taken from A Fourth Couse of Chicken Soup for the Soul entitled “Cold Hands.”
A mother was cleaning out the pockets of her six-year-olds winter coat, when she found a pair of mittens in each pocket. Thinking that one pair must not have been enough to keep her hands warm, she asked her daughter why she was carrying two pairs of mittens in her coat. She replied, “I have been doing that for a long time, mom. You see some kids come to school without mittens and if I carry another pair, I can share with them and then their hands won’t get cold.”
This is a wonderful example of being mindful and considerate of others. This young person saw a need and responded un-selfishly. Her action is actually an example of the Fruits of the Spirit of Love, Goodness, and Kindness. These Fruits flow from using the gifts of wisdom and understanding. Even a six -year- old can use their gifts and make a huge impact on an-other person’s life and even the world. We see it time and time again in news stories.
So, as a young person, do not be afraid to act when you see a need; even if the act might seem to be a small thing. As Saint Mother Teresa said “we can do not great things, only small things with great love.”
