ThePhilosophicalUnderpinningsofthisProgrammeofStudy
Thisisapracticeorientedprogrammeofstudy.Itsmainthemereflectsanefforttokindlea
valueorientedandholisticthoughtprocessintheconsciousnessofthestudentthatwilllead
hertoabetterrealizationandappreciationofthefactthatthereshouldbeharmonybetween
whatonethinks,whatonefeelsandwhatonecreatesorpresentsexternally.Inotherwords,
thecoursewillfosteravaluesystemthatreliesonactionsstemminginharmonywithaninner
valuesystem.

Thepractice
involved
requires
students
to
take
cognizance
of
some
defining
episodes
in
the
life
ofMahatmaGandhifromhisschoolyearstotheendofhislifeandtoexaminehowhe
managedtocreateabalanceandharmonybetweenhisactionsandthoughtsandhis
conscience.Thestudentwillbeaskedtoseekincidentsandepisodesinherownlifeandworld
thatresembletheseincidentsandepisodesfromGandhislifeandshewillhavetostudyher
ownresponses(ortheresponsesandactionsofthepersonagesinvolved)incomparisonwith
theresponsesofGandhitotheextentpossible.Thestudentwilladditionallybeaskedto
maintainadiarywhichshallrecordanyepisodesthathappeninherlifeandwhichbearsome
resemblancetothechosenepisodesfromGandhislifeforacomparativestudy.Thestudent
willbe
further
asked
to
enlarge
this
study
to
episodes
from
history
in
the
lives
of
great
individualsandalsofromliteraturethatmayevenbeintherealmoffiction.Shewillalsobe
exposedtofilmsanddocumentariesaswellasvisitstospotsinDelhiconnectedwiththelifeof
MahatmaGandhi.
Objective
Toinstilltheprinciplesofnonviolenceandtruthineachstudentthroughcreatingawareness
aboutMahatmaGandhispracticeofthesebeliefsinhisownlife.
