What is Imagism Not? Poetry before imagism wascalled genteel. It was very well-behaved andnon-threatening, avoidingcontroversial and realisticsubject matter. Imagism is a reaction againstgenteel poetry. 10. What is Imagism? Imagism is a literarymovement founded inthe early 1900s by EzraPound and other poets. During the Modernera, writers broke fromtradition by coming up withexperimental writingtechniques like imagism. 11. What is Imagism? Through a clean presentation of animage, imagists hoped to freeze asingle moment in time and tocapture the emotions of thatmoment. Imagist poems express the essenceof a person, incident, or objectwithout providing explanations. These writers were heavilyinfluenced by Japanese poetry. 12.
