Welcome to our magazine of GREATNESS!

The Los Osos YMCA Afterschool Program provides a variety of

academic, athletic and arts enrichment activities. Giving our children the opportunity to participate in these rewarding

experiences will go on to benefit them today, tomorrow and in

the future to come. Our goal is to support each child by fostering positive self-esteem, promoting collaborative and

team building skills, as well as creating a sense of community and global responsibility.

Once upon a time there was a city named One Tree and it

only had one tree. All the people were very sad. A few people wanted to plant more trees so all the people would be happy

again.

They started digging to plant the trees but the people made

the worms kind of sad because the shovels cut them in half. The worms had to dig down deeper and deeper but they did

not have enough air to breathe so deep. Soon they were happy because the trees made the dirt better.

All the people had a celebration and had lots

and lots of good food to eat.

Once upon a time there was a king’s castle. The bad guys came and tried to take the money. But the king still had more money because he tricked the bad guys. Then Aidan came and all the men came and gave all the money to the good people.

Sweetie went back to town. There they saw a bad guy stealing diamonds from a store. He was an evil prince and took the diamonds back to his castle. He saw princess Jasmine on his way back to his castle and fell in love with her. He made a potion to make the princess fall in love with him. Jasmine fell in love with the evil prince, Prince Volcano. They got married the next day. Soon the potion wore off of Princess Jasmine and she ran away from Prince Volcano. Prince Jonas found her as she was running home. Soon after, Princess Jasmine and Prince Jonas got married and lived happily ever after.

The Girl and the Horse Once upon a time there was a very selfish girl, who was always in everybody’s business. Her name was Rebecca. She kept company with a rich boy named Alan, who was always buying Rebecca beautiful presents. Once he bought her a diamond necklace to go with the diamond bracelet he had once bought her. One day Alan bought Rebecca a beautiful horse. As soon as the saw the animal, she began to examine it. First she looked at its feet, then its mane. She screamed, “I DON’T WANT THIS DUMB ANIMAL TAKE IT BACK!” At that moment the horse got scared and kicked her in the stomach. Moral: Never scream near a horse.

My friends have decorated their house really, really SPOOKY for Halloween. They have so many scary

decorations. I won’t even dare to enter. It’s that spooky!

They threw a fake mummified leg on the roof. It was so scary! Aaaahhhh!!!! I even saw a vampire talk (it was fake). I

even saw the leg move!

Vampire and his friend skeleton went trick or treating. While they were trick or treating they saw: a black bird, two orange pumpkins, a white ghost, a golden dog dressed as a reindeer and a black cat.

The Knighted Castle

Once there was a thief, he name was Jasper. He went to this big old castle, which was bigger than the whole world. He planned to steal all the gold. He threw a smoke bomb into the castle and ran up to the king and punched him right in the eye. Jasper then ran to the king’s chest to get the gold. After that he escaped over the wall. The king’s knights went after Jasper. They followed him into a really scary castle. The knights were never heard from again.

Once upon a time there was a cat named Polly and a mouse named Sally. They had to live together and they were NOT happy! One time, Sally was almost eaten by Polly! Sally was so scared that she ran as fast as she could! Lucky Sally ran in her house and she was safe because Polly couldn’t fit in the hole! But Polly stuck her paw in and got Sally!

Little Cub is a sweet little wolf, very curious, and adventurous. He loves to explore. One day, momma took him out for a hunt. They came up to a rapid river surrounded by a deep, dark forest. Momma always told little Cub to stay away from the river. Well little Cub was very thirsty, and he leaned in for a drink, when all of a sudden he was pulled in! He yapped and cried in fear as he was pulled down. Momma ran down the riverbank but didn’t see him anywhere. She was very worried. Finally, she calmed down

and just sat, looking into the river. She heard a yap, and looked to her left, but saw nothing. Then looked to her right and saw little Cub in the distance. He was dangling over the river. He was terrified. Momma ran as fast as she could, and grabbed little Cub. She carried him back to their den. He was all wet, so they snuggled together and warmed up. That was one big adventure for one little Cub.

Linda the Unicorn is in charge of a million princesses. Once upon a time the unicorn was carrying the princess of everything. Her name was Lily. As they approached the castle the king’s cat came out of the castle and said, “Come in! You can touch anything but the queen’s crown.” The unicorn said, “Of course I will come in but I will not touch the queen’s crown.” The princess got off the unicorn and ran inside. “Wait!” screamed the unicorn, “You have to wait until the cat let’s you in!” Once they were in the castle the princess touched the queen’s crown and alarms went off. The princess got in BIG TROUBLE! The princess got in so much trouble that the queen threw her in the dungeon and hung her up by her arms. But the princess didn’t like it. She called her parents and they took her out of the dungeon. Then she went back to her home-castle and lived

happily ever after.

One day Krista’s mom gave Krista a key for a magical world hidden in the woods. This world was filled with nice witches, nice dragons, fairies and mermaids. Everyone rushed over to her and said, “The evil ghost stole out magical some that keeps nature healthy and if nature isn’t healthy everyone will die and the magical world will disappear.” “Oh no! That’s awful.” Krista said. “Maybe I can go find it.” “No, it’s too dangerous.” Said the fairy. “You will need your magic wand.” Said the mermaid. So Krista went into the deep dark woods on the way there she ran into a witch that was going to take her soul and then eat her. So she used her magic wound and disintegrated the witch. Then all of a sudden she saw a blue stone. Yes, it was the moon stone. She grabbed it and took it back. Everyone cheered and made her queen and they lived happily ever after.

Tekkit is like the game known as the popular game called Minecraft. Minec raft is where everything you see is a cube and you try and survive from enemies like zombies, spiders, and more. But Tekkit is a multiplayer version of the Technic mod pack developed for the game Minec raft and was c reated in 2004. Minec raft was made by Marcus N otch Presson through the company called Mojang but Tekkit was c reated by a group of Minec raft fans. Tekkit is about Energy, c rafting and industrial work. Unfortunately to get Tekkit you must have an ac count on Minec raft. Tekkit has many more materials, armor, and tools than Minecraft has; like c opper, uranium, rubies, sapphires, tungsten, emeralds, red matter, dark matter, tin, and silver. W hat you can do with energy is power machines and energy related stuff. There are two other different liquids called oil and fuel. I recommend this game to everyone that likes to be c reative.

Creative thinking skills are essential for success in learning and success in life. Creative thinking involves a range of skills that can be promoted across the curriculum.

There is potential for creative thinking in all areas of life, and in all lessons. At the YMCA we strive to provide as many opportunities to help develop children’s capacity

for original ideas and creative achievement.

Promoting creative thinking is a powerful way of engaging children with their learning. Children who are encouraged to think creatively show increased levels of motivation

and self esteem. Creativity prepares them with the flexible skills they will need to face an uncertain future. Employers want people who are adaptable, innovative, can solve problems and communicate well with others. Developing the capacity to be creative

can enrich their lives and help our children to contribute to a better society.

Creativity thrives where there is time to explore, experiment and play with ideas. Children need the right conditions for creativity to flourish. The YMCA is just that place!

LOOK FOR KIDS NIGHT OUT DATES TO COME… What is it?

This is a night for parents to get out and have fun while their children have a blast of their own! It is 20.00 dollars per child

(additional children are 15.00 dollars each) this includes 4 hours of care and dinner. We play games, create art projects

and watch movies. Our first Kids Night Out was a tremendous success! We

recommend signing up early to ensure your spot.
