About Positive Images FestivalWelcome to the 2014 Positive Images Festival programme and join with us in celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the Positive Images Festival. This year we have over 150 events and activities taking place across the city - so there is something for everyone and most of it is FREE to attend.

The Festival began as a one day celebration of Coventry’s Diverse communities in 1994 at the Central Hall as a book fair, organised by the Coventry Library and Information Service. Over the years, the Festival has become an independent event and has grown to a three week celebration and this year will see Positive Images events taking place in July and August as well.

Positive Images Festival is run and funded by volunteers. All the organisations affiliated, whether from the voluntary, educational or statutory sector or from communities and faith organisations, work under the umbrella of Positive Images. The Festival would not happen without its volunteers and this year, in particular, students from Coventry University. We thank them for their great support.

The Festival was founded to celebrate the amazing heritage and traditions of the city’s minority and mainstream communities but it also now embraces diversity in all its forms. People and organisations representing communities, faiths and other forms of diversity will be leading, taking part in, and performing in the Festival. Positive Images Festival embraces diversity in all its forms and supports local artists, writers, dancers, musicians, poets as well as sourcing all its publicity, equipment and supplies from Coventry. This makes Positive Images a truly Coventry based Festival.

The Festival this year will be launched by Coventry’s own Lady Godiva, Pru Porretta, at noon on Saturday 7th June and then will welcome the new Lord Mayor, Cllr Hazel Noonan, at 1.30pm when she welcomes the Festival to the city.

We hope you enjoy the Festival this year and we hope you are able to come along to as many of the events and activities as you can. Your views on the Festival will be very welcome and these can be left at www.positiveimagesfestival.co.uk
