Image Manipulation Cropping

This image is of the artist featured on the cover of my magazine. The original picture has the model stood straight with her arms folded and her left hand resting on her face, but the framing was off and therefore the picture had more space on the right of the image. I changed this by using the cropping tool. The artist then became central of the image, which makes her the focus point. It also made it easier when layering titles and articles on top of during the editing process of the magazine cover because the artist was central I could place things around her.

Image Manipulation Adding colour

For the colour manipulation, I selected the brush tool, changedits brush size to a fairly large size, then changed the mode to a ‘lighten’ effect so the colour wouldn’t appear to dark, I then changed its opacity to 38% so over the artist, the colour wouldn’t show as much, but it still would on the background because it was plain. I then went on to select the colour I wanted which was a fairy medium pink. After selecting the colour, I went onto the image as used the brush to carefully ‘paint’ the colour on the left side so it appears that a pinky coloured light was in the studio. I then used the same techniques and settings to do the same to the right hand side, but in a very light pastel blue colour.

This is the image I used for the double page spread, I used the same technique as the front cover image.

Image Manipulation Layering the image

For the image manipulation of layering the image, I firstly saved the image as a JPEG, then on the same file on photo shop, I layered the newly saved JPEG on top of the original image, changed the opacity of the top layer, changed the image to free transform it and then slightly moved the image to the right to create a slight disorientation. I have used this disorientation technique before in my portrait photography and therefore I wanted to create a sort of running theme through out my work.

Image Manipulation Smoothing out the image

For the bottom left corner of the image, there was a faint black line from the top layer as it had been slightly moved to the right therefore the black edge has come onto the image. To overcome this, I used the clone tool to clone the area around it, and sort of paste it on top of the back edge to smooth it out.

For the top of the image, I used the smudge tool to smoothly blend the two colours together to create a slight purple tint to make it look like the colours were one layer together.

Image Manipulation

For the EP cover on the double page spread, I used another image that was taken the same day. The pink effect is actually pink plastic wrapping that I placed in front of the camera with the flash on, which will explain the white speckles. On photo shop, I cropped the image so the artist is still in the frame. I chose this image because I liked how the white speckles covered the artists eyes, making it a little mysterious. I then added text in a simple font in black, as black stood out against the background colours. I then added the artists name in the corner so it is recognisable.
