MANIPULATION

OF IMAGE

Page 2: Image Manipulation

I first altered the image by changing the colour balance to the

actresses skin tone. I changed the cyan level to lower than

average, in order to make her seem paler than originally. By

cutting round the face with the pen tool I was able to focus on

only altering her face and neck; by doing this the red marks

became a bit bolder and lighter, standing against the pale skin

tone. However, this also effected the running mascara and dark

marks on her face, making them fade slightly.

I then altered the colour balance on the whole image to give a

slightly blue tone; making her pale skin seem ill. I then used

the eyedropper tool to get the same colour tone that is behind

the actress’ face and used the brush tool to spread this over

the bottom of the image; in order to block out the writing on

her t shirt. Also, this helps the face stand out and makes it

seem ill compared to the black, plain background.

I first enhanced the black lines and running mascara on the

actress’ face by using the same brush tool and altering the

opacity level when adding in the lines under the eyes to make

the black marks faint or bolder. I then neatened this by using

the eyedropper tool and getting the red used on the mark to

spread over the mark further; to make sure it was a consistent

colour. As well as using the eyedropper tool and brush tool to

make sure all of the actress’ face was evenly pale.

Then, I used the pen tool to cut around the actress’ eyebrows

and used the brightness/contrast levels to make them darker

and bolder; standing out against her pale tone. I then used the

pen tool to cut around her lips to alter the cyan and magenta

levels to lower to make them seem duller and give them a

blue tint to coincide with her skin tone.

Finally, I made a slight change to the actress’ eyes by

cutting around them with the pen tool and using the

colour balance to alter the cyan levels; giving them a

slightly blue tint to further link to her skin tone. By

using this tint I’ve made her features seem off and

abnormal to highlight the fact she’s dead.
