IMA NEWSLETTER President’s Message Hey Aggies! Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving break. Thank you to everyone who donated to our IMA Sub-4-Santa fundraiser. We were able to raise $410 to help children and families in the community have Christmas this year! Please mark your calendars for our field trip on Friday December 1 to Space Dynamics Lab. As a nonprofit unit of the Utah State University Research Foundation, SDL has been solving the technical challenges faced by the military, science community, and industry since 1959. We will get a chance to tour the facilities and visit with CFO Lyndon Loosle about how accounting supports SDL’s mission. You will not want to miss this opportunity! Several of the IMA officers got the chance to participate in the IMA Student Leadership Conference in Houston this month. We joined with students from all over the world to learn from industry leaders about ethics, technology, leadership, and career opportunities in accounting. We got to visit and network with representatives from diverse employers including HP, the FBI, and FDIC. I spoke with several professors from as far away as Baltimore, Maryland, who made glowing remarks about USU’s students and faculty. During the conference, USU was recognized as an Outstanding Student Chapter, the highest student chapter recognition the IMA association offers! We would like to thank everyone for your part in achieving this award and for your continuing participation in IMA. Good luck with finals! Jacob Smith UTAH STATE UNIVERSITY REMINDER! He considers himself from the small town of Clearfield Utah. As a Junior studying accounting, he plans on continuing at USU to complete his Masters in Accounting. His ultimate dream is to go into Forensic Accounting so he hopes to land an internship with the FBI. As a Samoan, Elijah loves his culture and being able to share it through traditional dance, attire, and song. He also enjoys having jam sessions as he plays the ukulele and piano. Being recently married in August, Elijah loves the adventures with his wife most of all. Officer Spotlight: Elijah Toa Ryan is a junior here at Utah State University. He enjoys spending time with his family, going running, hiking, and reading. He loves living in Cache Valley and enjoys all the outdoor activities available here. This fall he got engaged to his beautiful fiancé, McKenzie. They will be getting married in May. Ryan says “I think it’s important to get involved with different clubs as a student. I joined IMA my freshman year and I’ve learned a lot from professional meetings with guest speakers and touring different businesses in the valley. There are so many places that accounting can take you but for me, being able to make a difference in people’s lives is my top career goal.” Officer Spotlight: Ryan Lee
