AEIM Code of good environmental practices.

• This Code was approved unanimously by AEIM General Assembly held in Madrid on 11th, March, 2.005.

• Basically consists of a general declaration of good intentions.

• Our members felt they had to move forward from these good intentions to an action plan.

In order to implement a realistic action plan it was necessary to seek the advice of an independent third part.

Third independent part advice

And so, Aeim signed, last 4, April, 06, an agreement with the independent conservationist organization “Rainforest Alliance”.

Why Rainforest Alliance?

Our Association signed an agreement with the Smartwood program of this organisation in 2002, offering spanish importers the implementation of FSC CoC certification.

After that agreement, renewed in 2004 and 2005, 20 spanish importers got the FSC Coc certification.

So, spanish importers (members of AEIM) value Rainforest Alliance (through its Smartwood Program) as an organisation, able to join global conservation values and business interests.

-The main office in southern Europe of the Smartwood program is in Spain (Madrid).

- Due to their experience in Latin America, spanish is a spread language among this organisation.

- The staff in Spain are all fluent in spanish.

AEIM / Rainforest Alliance agreement. Main targets:

A) First stage: Rainforest Alliance to assess and give recommendations on the content and implementation of AEIM,s Code of Conduct, based on information obtained from AEIM and its members.

That is to say. We need to: Analyze the current situation of the timber trade in Spain. Assess what has been done in the past. Know what we have to do in the future.

According to this report, the next stage will be to design an ACTION PLAN TO:

* Settle the next steps for the future in order to:
