IlidzaCultural Bosnian Heritage prof. Smajovic Amila Mahmtovic AlenMocic DinaTurgut Ergam Nalbant11/05/2015ILIDZAThe Ottoman Turks appeared on theBosnian soil in 14 century. Set up their first strongholds in Bosnian Kingdom in 1430.The new administrative unit was set up between 1448 and 1453 called Bosansko Krajiste(Bosnian Border Country),Whereas the earliest censusu made in these parts 1455 Vilayet Hodidjed and Vilayet Saray Ovasi.

The Bosnian Pashaluk was set up in 1463.The most prominent architectural edifices of the Ottoman time arose in the 16 Century.Gazi Isa Beg built first mosque in these parts 1457 and Donated to Sultan Mehmet Fatih named Emperors Mosque.Hrasnica was mentioned in the census of these parts from 1455 belongig to timars of various landowners,Haji Mehmed and military commander(dizdar) of the town Hodidjed.

It was part of Sarajevo judge(kadije) with two communities(the communities of Muslims and communities of Christhians).Ilidza acquired its name in the Ottoman period and means the thermal bath and spa call Luzani in the middle ages 1516,belonged to the timar of Sulejman the brother of kapidzija(head of town gate guards).The village of Luzani other name ilidza belongs to Sarajevo,had 20 muslim houses,20 single persons and 11 Christians households.

Area of Ilidza having been rich in thermals waters and naturl beauties,had been the favourite picninc and holiday spot of the people from Sarajevo.Teferic place. Many important roads passed through Ilidza from ancient times.Rustem Pasha the Grand vizier built in 16 ct.a stone bridge on the Zeljeznica River and Han,shopping centre(bezistan) from the funds of his legislation.

In 1876 the Zeljeznica River was so high that part of the bridge fell down.The bridge was completely destroyed around 1888.The end of 16 ct.inhabitatnts of villages Luzani ,Osijek,Hrasnica build a bridge across the Zeljeznica River.The Bosnian Sanjak record from 1604 had this entry.They build a bridge and kept guard on the passes on that territory.

The famous writer Evliyya Celebi having passed through these parts in 1660 wrote down:There is a picnic place at the source of the Bosnian River.The people from whole Sarajevo come to enjoy,make delicious kebabs,they eat and drink and enjoy themselves.The natural beauties and ambience that radiated from this green oasis with many running waters was the main reasons for numerous people of quoality and rich people to have bulit their towers and houses there.

During the Ottoman period Ilidza was not only favourite spot for outgoing for many Sarajevans but also the healing spa.SummerhousesTravelogue by Benedikt Kuripesic 1531. He wrote about summerhouse in Glavogodina, that belonged to Gazi Husrev Beg. There is a interesting story about King Ferdinands emissaries Josip Lamberg and Nikola Jurisic and their visit to Gazi Husrev Beg on September,13 of 1531.GlavogodinaIn 1455, Glavogodina belonged to timar Umur, Isa Begs servant. It had 19 households. In 1604 it had 30 Muslim houses with small estates ( batina) Imperial dignitaries Osman Beg and Rizvan Beg, as well as Ibrahim and Hasan, Isa Begs grandsons, and famous family from Sarajevo Curica had their estate there. There is a necropolis with several old tombstones(nisans), and local people called it Sehiti (shahids)Another old graveyard is in village of Kovaci, between Glavogodina and HrasnicaThey have 10 old nisans from Ottoman rule, and four of them have turbanThe most interesting nisan has been in stele shape with the cut prism on top and semi-sphere on the end. Svatovsko in one more graveyard in the bottom of Igman mountain with only few old tombstones.One of them had a turban on it.LuzaniThe Bosnian nobleman and wealthy man Fadil Pasha Serifovic, had a largest summerhouse in the Sarajevo Plain. The location of house was in Luzani.But this summerhouse as well as many other suffered great damages at time of resistance against Austro-Hungarian occupation of Bosnia.KotoracThe Halilbasic, renowned family of spahis has tower there. In 1455, Kotorac belonged to timar of Nesuh, Isa Begs servant, it had 4 houses.In 1488, Kotorac belogned to timar of Mustafa, son of Duka, it had 6 Muslim houses and 1 Christian household. In 1604, Kotorac had 35 houses, 2 attacking horsemen houses and three houses of auxiliary soldiers.BlazujIn 1530 Blazuj was small settlement with only 10-12 houses, but in 1485 there was 56 Christian houses and 16 Muslim houses.Isa Beg Ishakovic, had his estates in Blazuj as well as two mills.In 1604 Blazuj had 63 Muslim house, 8 houses with bastina and 8 houses of vojnuks with bastina. Ottoman BridgeOld stone bridge over Bosnia River at Plandiste near Blazuj, bridge has been built in Ottoman period 1530-1550 on the foundation of old Roman bridge. It was built from a cut stone and mortart with seven semicircular arches. The lenght is about 40 meters. Most likely Gazi Ali Pasha acted as restorer of the bridge. MosqueThe mosque n blazuj had been built in the earliest perriod of Ottoman ruleThere was a two storey tower with catmaHowever the tower was destroyed in 1908ButmirIn the oldest records from 1455 Butmir had been inscribed under the name of BudimirIt had 17 households at that timeIn the beginning of 17th century Butmir appeared as Budimir in the records of the Bosnian Sanjak in 1604Slatinathe village between Blazuj and OsijekIt had 15 households in 1455The descendants of Smail Aga Cengic had their property in this village in later periods

Gornji and Donji StupThey belonged to the timar of Eflak Hamza.He was the servant of Isa Beg sIt had total of 18 householdsThe number of people in the village grew until the beginning of 17th century

IlidzaDuring the Ottoman rule the area of Ilidza did not experience quick and radical changesThe local population from the Ilidza territory was indigenous oneThe local population kept its native language in the process f Islamisation

Sarajevo nahiyeSarajevo nahiye had belonged to the jurisdiction of the sarajevo qadilukThe Sarajevo nahiye encompassed also Ilidza together with the neighbouring villages; bacevo, blazuj,glavogodina, stup,hrasnica,kotorac, luzani, otes, and slatina.
