With a strong line up of guests, features and activities as well as over 50 new exhibitors including big overseas brands the 2015 JAA International Jewellery Fair generated a buzz throughout the industry.
Once again free ferries and buses transported visitors to the fair and once inside they were greeted with live jazz music, with the natural light from the translucent roof bringing the fair to life.
Based on feedback and experience the first day was moved to Saturday to spread the visitor numbers more evenly across the 3 days to allow them
more time to research and buy. This proved very successful with a split of visitor numbers; Saturday 36%, Sunday 39% and Monday 25%.
There was something for everyone this year including international guest speakers, Jesper Neilson from Pandora and Endless Jewelery and Dennis Sandlau Jacobsen from Julie Sandlau, who generated a lot of interest as they discussed international trends and shared their experiences.
Our Spotlight sessions were more focused this year on specific industry topics as well as general business advice on helping retailers and most sessions were well attended.
We brought back the Bench Challenge competition for its second year, which generated plenty of interest as competitors created some stunning jewellery right there at the fair under the pressure of specific time limits. This competition will continue to grow and is sure to be bigger next year based on feedback from visitors.
Happy Hour on Saturday was a great opportunity for visitors and exhibitors to take a breather from a very busy first day and spend some time networking with the industry. A big thanks to the buying groups who joined us as sponsors.
Overall attendance was up 2 % on last year with 21% of visitors new to the fair and 31% of visitors not having been for a number years citing the features and activities as the main reason for returning.
Our special thanks to the Jewellers Association of Australia, the three buying groups Nationwide, Leading Edge and Showcase, as well as all of the exhibitors. We appreciate your support and contribution to deliver an outstanding event that continues to bring the industry together.

A series of workshops and seminars
held throughout the event that educated
and inspired attendees. Topics included:
• Social media • Recruitment

BENCH COMPETITION
Presented by the Young Jewellers’ group,
the Jewellers’ bench was held daily to
demonstrate a number of techniques
including CAD design, engraving and
jewellery setting.
BUYING GROUP LOUNGES
Located on the exhibition floor, lounges
provided seating and refreshments for
Nationwide, Showcase and Leading
Edge buying groups and their members,
away from the hustle and bustle of the
exhibition floor.
PALLION LIVE DEMOS
Live demonstrations were held next to
the Pallion stand, where you could
learn the secrets of plating, how to
string pearls with the correct tension,
see the head CAD designers sculpt on
screen, and much more.
INTERNATIONAL PERSPECTIVE
Jesper Nielsen from Endless Jewelry and
Dennis Sandlau-Jacobsen from Julie
Sandlau gave worldly insights that were
practical and down to earth, in free infor-
mation sessions. They were on hand to
discuss industry trends, their experience
in the industry, brand awareness, and
various tips along the way.
PIZZA & PAELLA BAR
Once again, Expertise Events worked
closely with the Sydney Exhibition Centre’s
catering team to deliver more enticing food
for visitors and exhibitors. Located on the
show floor, and not delivering your typical
exhibition food, the NY Pizza and Paella
Bar provided fresh and delicious food.
HAPPY HOUR
Back by popular demand, the Jewellery
Fair Happy Hour was brought back in
2015. Sponsored by the 3 buying groups
and Expertise Events, the Happy Hour
was a chance for visitors and suppliers
to network at Australia’s no. 1 Jewellery
event.
THE JEWELLERY FAIR
TREASURE CHEST
To encourage visitor purchasing, the
International Jewellery Fair brought
back the Treasure Chest. Visitors had
to spend in multiples of $1,000 with a
participating exhibitor to go into the draw
to win a selection of jewellery worth over
$20,000!
AWARD WINNING PIECES
A beautiful bangle made by Elly Cerohorsky
from WA was on display at the fair, which
claimed 2nd place in the Emerging Artist
category at the Saul Bell Design Awards. Also
on display were earrings containing 1,046
diamonds by Susan Blennerhassett, which
placed 2nd in the Gold/Platinum category.
These are judged on the following criteria:
• Pre-fair marketing participation
• Staff presentation
• Visitor interaction
• Product display
• Stand design
• Overall integration of stand elements

EVENT MARKETING ACTIVITIESA co-ordinated and multi-faceted marketing campaign was conducted to promote the JAA International Jewellery fair.
TRADE MAGAZINE
ADVERTISING
A schedule of advertising was
placed in the major trade publication,
Jeweller magazine. The campaign
also included inserts tailored to the
NZ and Australian markets separately.
TRADE INVITATIONS
& INVOICE STICKERS
DL flyers, postcards and invoice/
statement stickers were printed for
the use of exhibitors to promote
their attendance at the Fair. Web
banners were also made available to
be included on websites and email
communications.
EMAIL MARKETING
Regular email newsletters were sent
to prospective visitors each outlining
specific event initiatives and pointing
back to the event website.
FAIR WEBSITE
The JAA International Jewellery
Fair website was a comprehensive
resource for the event, detailing
exhibitor listings, amenities, fair
features, links to accommodation
bookings and, most importantly, a
portal to the NEW online pre-event
registration.
SMS REMINDER
On Sunday 30th of August, an SMS
reminder was sent to our database
who did not attend on Saturday
29th August. The SMS reminded
registrants that the fair was on and
some of the great features.
DIRECT MAIL
Direct mail was used extensively
by the event and included four
unique mailings to a database of
approximately 14,000 prospects on
each occasion:
• ‘You’re Invited’ postcard
• ‘Save the Date’ postcard
• Preview Brochure
• Fair Highlights postcard

HERE ARE JUST SOME OF THE HIGHLIGHTS...FAIR HIGHLIGHTS
THE JEWELLERS BENCH,
PRESENTED BY YOUNG
JEWELLERS GROUP
An exciting new competition
where jewellers will have the
opportunity to compete for
thousands of dollars in prizes.
The Jewellery Design
and Manufacturing
Championships will be run
by the Young Jewellers
Group and the competition
will highlight the expertise and craftsmanship required to turn basic
ideas into brilliant finished pieces right before your eyes.
Winning jeweller Jimmy Butts from the
US will be a special guest judge and will
hold Masterclasses during the fair.
This competition will be divided into
four categories: jeweller, setter, CAD
technician and hand engraver.
DENNIS SANDLAU - JULIE SANDLAU
Industry trends, experience, and tips –
Dennis has established himself over the past
12 years as one of the leading figures in the
successful Danish jewellery industry. He has
developed a successful jewellery brand ‘Julie
Sandlau’ alongside his wife, developed a
unique full range vertical value chain, as well as designed and
produced for Endless Jewelry along with several other brands.
Dennis has a sharp strategic eye in the industry as a whole – and
not the least building fruitful relationships across markets, brands
and partners.
JESPER NIELSEN - ENDLESS JEWELRY
Endless Jewelry, Inside Pandora, Jennifer
Lopez, and Brand Awareness – It’s safe to say
that Jesper knows a thing or two about taking
a brand to the next level. From co-founding
and leading the mega growth of the Pandora
CWE to creating and spearheading the two-
year young Endless Jewelry, Nielsen is a man on a mission with
a proven track record for building super brands that resonate
with fashion-forward, modern women. “If you want to be a big
brand you have to act like a big brand from day one”, states
Nielsen. “I’m not number two. I’m always going to be number
one”. “My reputation and long-standing key relationships with
jewelry retailers in Europe provided a natural and easy entrance
back into the jewelry business.” In just 20 months, with both the
Endless Collection and a newly signed design collaboration with
international megastar Jennifer Lopez, Endless Jewelry is now
available in 3,600 jewelry and specialty stores in 21 countries,
making it the fastest growing jewelry brand in the world.
JIMMY BUTTS - LAGNIAPPE JEWELRY
STUDIO
Masterclasses with Top 4 Jeweller in the
US – Jimmy owns Lagniappe Jewelry Studio
in Ballstan Spa New York and was recently
chosen by INSTORE Magazine as one of the
top four jewellers in the country. He is also a
world champion archer. Jimmy’s specialty is bridal jewellery and
alternative metal wedding bands. He enjoys sharing his skills
with other artists and jewellery makers, as well as learning from
them. Butts makes virtually everything in his shop himself. “The
core of our inventory is silver, one-of-a-kind pieces,” he said. “It’s
a small line I produce myself. Probably about 25 percent of our
business is custom-made special orders.” Jimmy will be running
masterclasses at the fair; featuring gemstone setting, hand
engraving, and jewellery manufacturing techniques.
At the recent International Saul Bell
Design Awards, Elly claimed second
place in the Emerging Artist category
with a piece ‘The Pinnacles of Ha Long
Bay’. This category recognises the
talents of designers 21 years of age
or younger and is open to entries from
around the world.
Following a display at the JCK Las Vegas Jewelry Show, the piece will make its way back to
Australia for display at the fair.

OFFICIAL EXHIBITION
DIRECTORY
The 50-page exhibition directory,
produced by Jeweller magazine, was
available to every visitor, providing
a valuable resource to navigate the
exhibition and more importantly an
essential post event resource to keep
in touch with exhibitors.
BRING A GUEST
For the second time at the Fair,
Expertise Events allowed blue buyer
card holders to bring along an
advisory guest. Following feedback
from previous years, Expertise Events
created a new guest pass whereby
buyers could bring a guest of their
choice to the show for assistance
with any purchasing.
NOMINATED BUYERS
We invited all of the Fair exhibitors
to provide us with lists of their top
clients. These nominated buyers
were then pre-registered and sent
a confirmation letter indicating that
their badge would be at the door for
express entry.
A special thanks to the Jewellery
Advisory Group who provided insight
from a visitors point of view to help
improve the fair now and into the
future.
PUBLIC RELATIONS
Each fair initiative was released to
the market at large via the trade
press. As a supporter of the Fair,
Jeweller magazine, both online and
in print, ran a wide-ranging preview
of the Fair in the months and weeks
prior including a comprehensive
‘Show & Tell’ covering the majority of
exhibitors.
THE DAILY NEWS
Each day of the Fair we emailed
the Fair News to more than 8,000
potential visitors. This was full of
information direct from the event. By
making a personal daily connection
with visitors, they saw the action ‘live’
from the Fair, and got excited about
visiting.
