The Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) Varanasi is a constituent of Banaras Hindu University owes its existence to the far sighted vision and relentless efforts of its founder Bharat Ratna awardee Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya.

EngineeringEngineering education in BHU flourished in three different colleges, namely the Benaras Engineering College (BENCO, established in 1919), College of Mining and Metallurgy (MINMET, 1923), and College of Technology (TECHNO, 1939). These colleges were erstwhile merged to form the Institute of Technology (IT-BHU) in 1968 to provide quality education in engineering.

WithWith the Institute of Technology Amendment Act, 2012, the then IT-BHU was recognised as the Indian Institute of Technology (Banaras Hindu University), Varanasi. At present, the Institute comprises 14 departments and 3 interdisciplinary schools. In this 100 year long journey IIT (BHU) has produced innumerous notable engineers and scientists who made their way to the top in their respective fields across India and abroad. Their contribution towards the technological transformationtransformation through industries, academic institutions as well as R&D labs etc has brought prestige to this institution.

Many alumni of the institution have successfully established their own industries and organisations, many others are serving the diverse governmental departments and private sector companies through their knowledge, skill, understanding, and experience. With the legacy of 100 years of excellence of the institution, it continues to provide quality education to students that transforms the bright young minds to the more rational engineers, ready to take the lead.

RESEARCH FACILITIES

Central Instrument Facility (CIF) is one of the well-established Specialized Core Facilities at Indian Institute of Technology, Varanasi, offering a range of sophisticated instruments and technical expertise. Many high-tech instruments are available here including Transmission ElectElectron Microscope (HR-TEM), Scanning Electron Microscope (HR-SEM), Scanning Probe Microscope (SPM), Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy 500MHz (NMR), Magnetic Property Measurement System (MPMS), High Resolution X-Ray Diffraction (HR-XRD),(HR-XRD), Bench Top X-Ray Diffraction (BT-XRD), Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV-3D), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA), Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy.

The Design and Innovation Center (DIC) is a joint project of the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) and Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) Varanasi funded by the Department of Higher Education, MHRD, and Government of India. It is established with many objectives such asas to promote a culture of innovation and creative problem solving, to promote a culture of knowledge sharing and collaboration among industries and focuses on areas of social and national importance such as Agriculture, Art and Literature, Environment, Energy, Science andand Technology. There are 23 successfully completed projects, 10 patents and 89 ongoing projects in the DIC. IIT (BHU) is mainly involved in the technical and engineering aspects of all these innovative projects.

The Ministry of Steel, Government of India has created an Advanced Research Centre for Iron and Steel (ARCIS) from the Steel Development Fund (SDF) in the Institute. The Centre will cater to the needs of iron and steel education and research. The long term objectives of the ARCISARCIS are to foster teaching and advanced research in emerging areas of iron and steel technologies. The ARCIS will also work with industry with the aim that some of the research findings are utilized by industry to improve the quality of existing pproducts/processes and to develop new products.The research centre has been a glorious part of IIT(BHU) and has helped the institution in achieving this tremendous milestone at which it stands today.

Technex is the annual Techno-management festival of Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) Varanasi. It brings over 50,000 engineers, designers and innovators from across the nation for a techno-management extravaganza, Technex celebrated as a three-day stage of creation, innovation and invention.invention. Technex holds a multitude of events from many fascinating arenas of technology and management. These categories together comprise more than 30 events. The fest upholds lucrative prizes worth INR 20,000,00 at stake for more than 20,000 participants to compete for.

Kashiyatra, the Annual Socio-Cultural

festival of IIT(BHU) Varanasi is a three-day

fiesta, encompassing enchanting literary,

musical and artistic events. It is north

India's largest cultural festival and takes

place within Asia's biggest residential

university, BHU. Varanasi, the holy city,

houseshouses a plethora of traditions with an

ecstatic blend of cultures. IIT(BHU) has

been nationally acclaimed for imparting

technical knowledge in diverse fields and

has recently concluded its centenary

celebration, making each edition even

more special.

Spardha is the annual Sports festival of IIT (BHU)

Varanasi. In its glorious history of over 30 years,

Spardha has grown to become the largest and

most awaited sports festival of Northern India

where athletic competition is drawn from

throughout the country. Each year, over a

thousand participants compete in a range of

sportssports like hockey, football, cricket, boxing,

tennis and many more, creating a stunning

spectacle of exceptional fervid athletic talent.

The event has always enthused a zest for

continuously scaling new zeniths in the pursuit of

excellence and vibrancy among one and all.

Malviya Center for Innovation, Incubation and Entrepreneurship (MCIIE) is a Not for Profit Society in IIT(BHU). MCIIE is a part of Technical Business Incubators (TBI) Program under the National Science & Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board. It is a pedestal to help knowledge-driven enterprises to establish and prosper under organized scientific guidance.guidance. It also facilitates swift commercialization of a product based on sophisticated technology. Incubator tenants not only benefit from business and technical assistance, but they also benefit from official affiliation with the incubator, a supportive community with an entrepreneurial environment, a direct link to entrepreneurs, and immediate networking and commecommercial opportunities with other tenants firms.

SPIC MACAY

SPIC MACAY - The Society for Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture amongst the youth, is a non-profit, voluntary, apolitical and participatory student movement which ought to conserve aesthetics, spirituality, subtle values, and a mystical touch of the priceless cultural heritage of India. SPIC MACAY introduced the VIRASAT series at IIT-BHU in 2016,2016, a weeklong event, which presents a plethora of traditional performances with a variety of art forms ranging from flute and santoor, Carnatic Music, to spell bounding Qawwalis.

UNNAT BHARAT ABHIYAN

The parental organization (Banaras Hindu University) of Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) is involved in various activities like education, health, crafts, agriculture, medicine (traditional), folk culture, handicrafts, rural cultural resources, etc. IIT(BHU) will be involved in counselling and providing the necessary technical inputs to the villagers especially youngsters in variousvarious tasks such as preservation and promotion of rural crafts, Vermicomposting, Rain Water Harvesting, Decentralized Gasifier, and Maintenance of Electrical Equipments, etc.

E-CELL

The Entrepreneurship Development Cell, IIT BHU wishes to inculcate and enrich the entrepreneurial environment in India. On its mission towards building an enterprising India, E-Cell, IIT BHU provides great opportunities for start-ups, colleges, alumni and corporates to get involved with us. The Cell aims at manifesting the latent Entrepreneurial spirit of young studentsstudents .The E-Cell of the college has been very active since the very beginning, overall helping the interested students to achieve its benefits up to the maximum extent. Our students have participated in various competetions and their performance and the Institution’s performance over the years has jumped to an unbeatable level.

The Science and Technology council is an organisation where the most imaginative and intricate DIY projects come to life. The council aims to promote, enhance and inculcate engineering problem solving skills among students beyond the scope of classroom. Club has compelling fields including Robotics, Aero-Modelling, Star Gazing, etc. The SNTC organizes a plethora of events with the most imaginative problem statement round the

year which conveyear which converge at the finale -"Technex".

BEYOND ACADEMICS

The Cultural Council, IIT (BHU), is one of the oldest councils of the Gymkhana. Encompassing seven clubs, the Cultural Council organizes workshops, activities, and events like the Cultural Weekend. The Fine Arts Club, Literary Club, Western Music Club, Indian Music Club, TheThe Quiz Club, Dance Club and The Theatre Club are the seven notes to the Cultural Council motivating students to paint with the hues of imagination, developing skills of debating, poetry, discussions, extemporaneous speaking, and much more.

The FMC aspire to bring out the chained creativity in our budding engineers. These clubs are Animation Club, Cine Club, Design Club, Media Club, Outreach Club and Photography Club. The Council helps the other Councils in making the college festivals andand institute events a huge success. The soul of the club are its dedicated members who devote themselves to task assigned, be it the Photowalks, the monthly newspaper Quest or Social Service. FMC Weekend is the annual event organised by the Council which aspiaspires to bring out the creativity in the talented youth of the country.

This council is the soul of IIT-BHU Gymkhana and its spirit manifested itself prior to its conception as an organisation. The council has nurtured several notable sportsmen who brought numerous laurels and recognition to the institute. The councilcouncil boasts of world class facilities and professional coaches to mentor students on intricacies of each sport enabling students to outwit as well as outperformed their opponent institutions and establishing IIT-BHU as a sports giant acacross all IlTs.

The nascent Social Service Council has started its endeavours to bring about small positive changes in the relationship of IIT (BHU) students with our society. The Council conducts various events in and outside the campus throughout the year with a vision to generate a collective sensesense of responsibility amongst our fellow mates towards the society. The mission is to help students organize social service activities, leading to awareness, sensitivity, and a spirit of volunteerism in the IIT (BHU) fraternity and the surrounding areas

THE BUSINESS CLUB

The Business Club is a de-facto place where the confluence of economics, consulting, data analytics and finance transpire. The Club promotes the learning and understanding of the same. "Bizstorm", a weekly session conducted by the Club, discusses the advancements on the business frontier. Mavericks, an initiative, wherein eminent pundits of business share thethe insights they have developed in their course of finding their passion. The Case Book, the signature project of the Club, contains all the case studies that were conducted in a year. Articles on business insights, recent happenings, marketing geniuses, economics and finance have been categorized into various titles such as "Bizkrieg", "Eco Thursday", FinanceFinance Weekly" so that these publications reach the right audience with relevant content.Some of the achievements of the Club and its members include two gold and one silver in Inter IIT'19. Our team was among the top six Regional Finalists in Dubai in Hult Prize'17 and club members were the campus winners of Hult Prize'19 and proceeded to the Regionals. The Club had a clean sweep at all the business events at IIT Guwahati's Techniche’18.Techniche’18. The Club successfully organised two editions of BASH, its flagship event.The club successfully laid the foundation of ShARE IIT(BHU) Chapter in May 2019. The organisation aims at directing students towards consulting.

TEDX IIT BHU

TEDX is a non-profit organisation that started out in 1984, to bring together people from the three different walks of life: Technology, Entertainment, Design; but today, is giving a stage to experts from the most exquisite and unique genres around the world. TEDx an independently organised event is a unique blend of past experiences and future expectations conjoinedconjoined to give rise to incredible and indelible talks which inspire millions. Since its inception half a decade ago,TEDx IIT (BHU) has grown exponentially, becoming one of the largest TEDx events.
