DedicationDedicationTh is book is dedicated to my wife, Lillian, and to all those who have played a role furthering Astro*Carto*Graphy® and other locality techniques in astrology.
IntroductionIntroduction
Jim Lewis created the technique called Astro*Carto*Graphy®. Since then, the technique has be-come an important tool for astrologers in the growing fi eld of locality or relocation astrology.
Jim Lewis also partnered with Astro Numeric Service to produce an annual booklet called the Astro*Carto*Graphy Source Book of Mondane Maps for Year yyyy. Aft er Jim’s death, the series con-tinued for several years. Th en stopped.
Th is new 2018 Yearbook of Mundane Maps and Charts is hopefully the start of a an annual series. It is similar to the original series. Th e intent remains the same. Th ere are Astro*Carto*Graphy® (A*C*G) maps and charts to interest American mundane astrologers. Th ere are some new addi-tions, too. For example, there are Cyclo*Carto*Graphy® (C*C*G) maps in some instances.
Mundane astrologers correlate celestial phemonena with human events. Th ese could be political changes, economic impacts, or catastrophes - to name just a few.
Natal astrologers have an advantage over mundane astrologers. Natal astrologers oft en have an exact, known birth moment. Th e locality of birth can be stated with specifi city, also. Mundane astrologers oft en have no precise birth moment. When and where can be a subject of dispute. Mundane astrologers might, for example, study the relationship between great cycles of nature and the solar system in an attempt to predict earthquakes or climate change.
Th e focus is on the cyclic peaks for the annual seasons (ingresses), the phases of the Moon (lunations), and the link between the two (eclipses). Th ese are generally considered meaningful by mundane astrologers.
Erecting a chart for a mundane event, such as the winter solstice, is dependent upon selec-ing a particular locality. Th e chart for Greenwich, England, for example, diff ers in important respects from the chart for Washington, D.C. Th e A*C*G map, with its focus on the critical angles of a chart - ascendant, midheaven, descendant, and immum coeli - allows us to see important aspects for many diff erent communities with just a glance. As with the previous series, nearly all the charts and maps in the 2018 Yearbook were drawn for Washington, D.C. Th e only exception was the charts and maps for the government of the United Kingdom, which use London, England.
Astrologers have become increasingly familiar with the technique of Astro*Carto*Graphy In the nearly two decades since earliest publication of the the original series Astro*Carto*Graphy Source Book of Mondane Maps for Year yyyy. Th is allows the description of Astro*Carto*Graphy to be truncated.
An A*C*G map is based on two central concepts: angularity and relocation.
Angularity recognizes the general concensus among astrologers that a planet is most powerful when it is conjunct with one of the four “angles” of the chart: ascendant (ASC), midheaven (MC), decendant (DESC), and immum coeli (IC). For example, the individual with Mars near one of the angles will be expected to demonstrate more than the typical amount of Martian characteristics -- assertiveness, aggression, pioneering instincts, etc.
Relocation is more controversial. It argues, when an individual moves away from the place of birth, the horoscope becomes modifi ed. You come to resemble the person who would have been born at exactly the same time but at the new place.
We’ll stick with Mars for a moment as we explore an example. Mars was not rising on the horizon at the time and place of your birth. Th at said, we can be sure that Mars was rising at that exact moment someplace else in the world. Perhaps Mars was on the ASC in Iceland at the moment of birth. If you migrate to Iceland (or even travel for an extended period of time), Martian qualities would come to the fore. You can expect to become more assertive, aggressive, and bold for the duration of your stay in Iceland.
Mars would have been on the ASC at the time of your birth not just in one place but in many plac-es. You can view all of the places where Mars was rising with a glance at an A*C*G map.
Most of the A*C*G maps and charts in this volume are for events. Th e one nativity is U.S. Pres-ident Donald Trump (Rodden AA). Reliable birth time information for Prime Minister Th eresa May of Great Britain was unavailable.
Let’s take a look at the A*C*G map for U.S. President Donald Trump to get a feel for how an A*C*G map might work.

Each line is labeled with the approriate glyph and one of four letters: A, M, D, or I. Th e letters re-fl ect the angle of the horoscope: (A) for ASC, (M) for MC, (D) for DESC, and (I) for IM.
Donald Trump’s Mars ASC line passes directly over Washington DC. His Mars DESC line, over Pyongyang, North Korea. Th e Pluto DESC line also passes over China and North Korea. Th e sig-nifi cance of the Mars lines for past U.S. presidents is that they correlate strongly with where they assert U.S. military force.
Jim Lewis felt strongly that the best event to use for timing the start of the United States govern-ment is the date and time the Continental Congress declared war on Great Britain. For consis-tency with the previous series, this event timing is used in this volume. Based on feedback from readers, it will be possible in the future to include other proposals for timing the emergence of the United States of America.
Th e inclusion of C*C*G maps for the U.S. President Donald Trump. the United States Decla-ration of War (6 July 1775), and the United Kingdom (1 January 1801) are unique additions to this series. An A*C*G map is the analog of a natal chart. It is cast for the time of birth or event occurance and remains fi xed forever. C*C*G maps combine both transits and secondary pro-gressions. Transits for the slower moving outer planets; secondary progressions (SP) for the faster moving inner planets. C*C*G maps are used in forecasts. Th e customary validity for a C*C*G map is twelve months. Th e most common practice is to cast them for six-months in ad-vance, allowing a look forwards and backwards of six-months. Th is is the practice in this volume.
A slight format change accompanies this volume. Th e natal/event charts and the A*C*G maps were presented in separate sections. In the cureent volume, they are presented side-by-side. Sep-arate sections was presumably to save pages. Given that the new format is a .PDF e-book, this constraint is no longer a primary concern.
Th e addition of other data is possible in future editions. Please feel free to share your suggestions to improve the series.
