Submittal Sheet Certified R MetalBuilding InsulationInsulation

Description

Owens Corning Certified R MetalBuilding Insulation is a light densityfibrous glass blanket designed to belaminated with a variety of appropriatefacings. Certified R is available instandard R-Values of 10, 11, 13, 16 and19. R-25 is available as a special orderitem. Standard roll widths are 36", 48",60" and 72". Selected Made-to-Orderwidths are also available. The productcomplies with the North AmericanInsulation Manufacturers Association(NAIMA) Standard 202-96 (Rev. 2000)“Standard for Flexible Fiber GlassInsulation Used in Metal Buildings”.

Uses

Certified R Metal Building Insulationis used as part of the insulation systemin the roofs and side walls of metalbuildings. It is designed to be laminatedwith a variety of facings to provideattractive interior finishes, abuseresistance, and assistance in controlof moisture.

Application

Several methods are used to insulatemetal buildings. The usual method isto apply the insulation over thestructural members (purlins and girts)and inside the exterior panels. Thismethod generally accommodates singlelayer installations. Methods are alsoavailable to apply insulation betweenpurlins so as to accommodate greaterinsulation thicknesses and betterthermal performance.

Availability

Owens Corning Certified R MetalBuilding Insulations are fabricated anddistributed by a nation-wide networkof independent laminators assuringprompt service and delivery. Contactyour Owens Corning SalesRepresentative for the names ofinsulation laminators servicingyour area.

Certified Thermal Performance

Owens Corning Certified R MetalBuilding Insulation is regularly testedto ensure compliance to the NAIMA202-96 (Rev. 2000) Standard. Samplingand testing is performed by the NationalAssociation of Home Builders ResearchLaboratories (NAHBR). The productis labeled on the top surface of eachroll with the nominal R-value and the“NAIMA 202-96” (Rev. 2000) to indicatecompliance. The NAIMA 202-96 (Rev.2000) standard specifies thermalperformance which provides thecapability of obtaining nominal thermalresistance (R-values) after laminating. The actual thermal performanceobtained from the laminated productwill depend primarily on the recoveredthickness. Note that these nominalR-values are for the insulation only anddo not include the effects of facings, air films, compression of insulation atframing members, conductancethrough fasteners, or other heat transferpaths particular to an installation.

Property Test Method Result

* The surface burning characteristics of these products have been determined in accordance with UL 723. This standard should be used to measure and describe the properties of materials, products or assemblies in responseto heat and flame under controlled laboratory conditions and should not be used to describe or appraise the firehazard or fire risk of materials, products or assemblies under actual fire conditions. However, results of this testmay be used as elements of a fire risk assessment which takes into account all of the factors which are pertinentto an assessment of the fire hazard of a particular end use. Values are reported to the nearest 5 rating.

Certified R Metal Building Insulation

The recovered thickness achieved willdepend on a number of variablesdetermined in the laminating processand hence are outside of OwensCorning’s control. To address theseissues, a number of leading metalbuilding insulation laminators produceproducts which meet the NationalInsulation Association’s “Certified FacedInsulation Standard” (NIA 404).Samples of faced products areperiodically tested by a nationallyrecognized laboratory and determinedto meet the NIA standard.
