II International Seminar on the concept of "Divine Men" in the Ancient World and its Reception

The II International Seminar on the concept of "Divine Man" in the Ancient World

and its Reception is held in the framework of the following research projects: 1. "Towards a Social History of Late Antique Pagan Holy Man" (EUIN2017-85631) and 2. "The Neoplatonic School of Athens (4th-6th c.) in its historical and philosophical context" (HAR2017-83613-C2-1-P), both funded by the Spanish Research Ministry (2017-2020). 

This seminar aims to explore the concept of the θεῖος ἀνήρ or "holy man” from a transdisciplinary approach.

For this purpose, the seminar will gather scholars from different study fields, such as:

• Philosophy and Leadership.

• Charisma, Holy Man and Political Philosophy.

• Biography in Late Antiquity: the case of the Lives of Philosophers.

• Archaeology of the Neoplatonic Schools of Athens.

• Religions, Rituals and Images in Antiquity.

• Reception of the Holy Man.

Following the previous activities developed in the framework of the aforementioned projects, the main goal of this seminar is to build the base for future cooperation aiming at the preparation of a European call and to develop common research interests.

El II Seminario internacional sobre el concepto de "Hombre divino" en el mundo

antiguo y su recepción se engloba en los siguientes proyectos de investigación: 1. "Hacia una histor ia socia l del hombre santo pagano ant iguo tardío" (EUIN2017-85631) y 2. "La escuela neoplatónica de Atenas (IV-VII CE) en su contexto histórico y filosófico" (HAR2017-83613-C2-1-P), financiados por el Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades (2017-2020). 

El seminario pretende explorar el concepto de θεῖος ἀνήρ u "hombre divino" desde una perspectiva transdisciplinaria.

Para este propósito, el seminario reunirá académicos de diferentes campos de estudio, tales como:

• Filosofía y liderazgo.

• Carisma en el hombre divino y filosofía política.

• Biografía en la Antigüedad tardía: el caso de las vidas de los filósofos.

• Arqueología de las escuelas neoplatónicas de Atenas.

• Religiones, rituales e imágenes en la Antigüedad.

• Recepción del hombre divino.

Siguiendo las actividades previas desarrolladas en el marco de los dos proyectos, el objetivo principal de este seminario es el de cimentar las bases para la cooperación futura con el objetivo de preparar una convocatoria europea y desarrollar intereses comunes dentro de la investigación.
